There were thirty-five teams playing in Section V. Bishop Kearney scheduled seven games but elected to forgo the tournament at the end of the season. There were 893 players on the final rosters, up 13 players from 2022. Rush-Henrietta and Victor carried the largest roster with thirty-six players and Haverling, Midlakes-Red Jacket and Waterloo with the smallest with sixteen.

For the eighth time and after a brief absence, Section Five Lacrosse leadership has selected first, second and honorable mention lists of All-Section players. The 2023 first team lists fifteen players and includes the six All-Americans previously announced. "It`s always difficult to choose from so many talented players," said Section Five Chairman, Mike Simon.

# 3424  USA Lacrosse All-Americans and All-Academics

The Head Coaches of Section V considered players who had been nominated for All-American and All-Academic awards. The awards identify some of the best players from each area around the country. Each of the head coaches in the Section is allowed to vote on each of the awards. The selections from our area were then submitted to the USA Lacrosse for final approval.

DAY IN REVIEW: TUESDAY - There were seven quarterfinal games today and in Class C the seeds held with Geneva, Pal-Mac and Wayne all advancing to the semi-finals on Friday at Canandaigua. In Class A Hilton #5 won their game with Rush-Henrietta #4 so the Cadets will advance with Pittsford, McQuaid and Penfield.

DAY IN REVIEW: THURSDAY - A four goal streak gave the Knights a 7-6 win over visiting Fairport. HF-L had a big win against Rush-Henrietta. Penfield beat Hilton and Canandaigua, in yet another low scoring game was the 3-2 winner at Thomas. The Saints had and exciting 9-8 win at Greece and Gananda won a 15-13 game against Kearney.

DAY IN REVIEW: TUESDAY - There were fourteen games played and it was the last game of the regular season for some teams. The Blue Panthers held off a fourth quarter surge by the Pride and held on for the 13-12 win. Aquinas, likewise held off a last quarter surge by the Lakers, winning 12-10 and locking up the GRALL title. Thomas won the battle at Webster and Penn Yan had a shutout against Clarence.

DAY IN REVIEW: SATURDAY - It took overtime after seven ties for the Rangers to beat McQuaid Jesuit 10-9. Brighton scored first and never looked back as they beat Aquinas 11-8. An unmatched goal in the fourth quarter was one goal less than the Saints needed as Livonia-Avon won 8-7. Penn Yan has an overtime loss against a strong Lake Shore team from Buffalo and Schroeder held the Hawks scoreless in three quarters for their 5-3 win in Corning.

DAY IN REVIEW: SATURDAY - With 1.9 seconds left in regulation, Baldwinsville senior Carson Dyl (3g) scored the winning goal to give the Bees a 7-6 win at home. Spencerport had a one goal win over Lake Shore (Section VI). Other winners include Mynderse, Aquinas, R-H, Pittsford, HFL, Irondequoit and Thomas.

# 3379  A Full Day of Lacrosse at HFL

Tonight’s 12-5 win for HFL over Livonia-Avon capped a long day of Lacrosse at HFL High School Field.  There were multiple contests across all levels of boy’s and girl’s lacrosse raising awareness and donations for “Cancer Day”.  In addition to today’s boy’s game, the girls defeated Horseheads 16-6 (HERE).  Today’s contest was a vastly different game from the contest just last week between the same two teams.  After a back-and-forth contest last Saturday, today’s match was much more one-sided.  The Cougars took long stretches of possession and gave the Lakers very little time on offense.  The Lakers attempted to use what opportunities they could get; however, it was not enough.  There were standout performances from Livonia goalie Matt Beachel with 7 saves in the first quarter (10 total for the game), HFL attackman Chase Perryman with 4g-2a, and HFL face-off midfielder Drew Angelo.

DAY IN REVIEW: TUESDAY - There were a number of exciting games played in light rain or drizzle, starting with an overtime win by Victor at Pittsford. The Blue Devils scored the last five goals of the game. Irondequoit had a big 12-10 win over visiting HF-L and the Storm had a 5-4 overtime win over visiting Livonia-Avon.

Penn Yan had a good one-goal win against Carthage, Penfield used overtime to beat Orchard Park, and Gananda had a won-goal win against Gates Chili. In another statement game, Victor posted a 14-8 win over Don Bosco Prep (NJ).

DAY IN REVIEW: TUESDAY - Although the majority of games ended in mismatches, there were a couple of exciting games. Topping the list is Canandaigua's 4-3 win at Brighton where neither team scored in the second half. Pittsford took an early lead and then never gave it up in the 8-6 win over visiting Irondequoit and Spencerport held Fairport scoreless in two quarters in their 7-3 win at home. Penfield scored four unanswered goals in the first quarter and then coasted to their 11-7 win over visiting Schroeder.

Thursday: DAY IN REVIEW: In the first minute of the game Victor scored two goals against Fairport and cruised to a 19-2 win at Fairport in their season opener.  Sam Ricci dominated at the faceoff X, winning 16 of 17 (94%). Marcus Whitman won their first game of the season in a good game with Gananda. A couple of goals before the half was the difference as Livonia-Avon defeated Pal-Mac 8-6. Other winners, most in not so close games were Wayne, Aquinas, Pittsford, Irondequoit and Thomas.

Tuesday: DAY IN REVIEW: Long-time Penfield coach, John Schembri won his 150th game today at the Patriots defeated Churchville-Chili 15-4. Hilton used overtime to beat Thomas with a goal by senior attackman Nicholas Fede. McQuaid won their first series game against Rush-Henrietta. At Pittsford, the Panthers held off late advances by St Joseph and took the 8-7 win. Other winners were HF-L, Schroeder and Brockport who gave their Head Coaches a first win, East-United-Eastridge, Livonia-Avon and Spencerport.

The New York State Sportswriters Association, posted their 2022 All-State lacrosse teams today with twenty Section V players included on the lists. There are two divisions: Large Schools (Classes A and B) and Small Schools (Classes C and D).

*+Penn Yan cemented their 26th Section V Title with a comeback 8-6 win over Livonia-Avon.  The Mustangs trailed for most of the game before scoring four unanswered goals in the fourth quarter to secure the win.  The Mustangs showed their pedigree of Section Final matches and stayed cool and collected throughout.

Third seeded HF-L came out strong in the first quarter and never really looked back in their 18-10 win over top seeded Livonia-Avon.  The Cougars never trailed in the game, although the Lakers kept the game close with a few runs throughout the game.

Friday: DAY IN REVIEW: The Class C and D semifinals have been played and the Championship matchup are set. Pal-Mac (#4) took out Marcus Whitman (#2) and Honeoye Falls-Lima (#3) took out Geneva (#2), but the top seeds won their games. Penn Yan (#1) defeated Haverling (#4) and Livonia-Avon (#1) defeated Wayne (#4). On Monday it will be Pal-Mac at Penn Yan and HF-L at Livonia-Avon for the brick.

Saturday: DAY IN REVIEW: It was the last day in the regular season and six games were played. It was Canandaigua over Penn Yan 9-3 and so for 2021 there are no undefeated teams. Gananda travelled to Medina for a 19-12 win. HF-L had a 14-10 win against Schroeder and Hilton surprised Spencerport with a 13-12 win. Tournament seeding will take place late Saturday or early Sunday.

Tuesday: DAY IN REVIEW: Mynderse scored first and shutout Midlakes-Red Jacket for the first half, on their way to a 5-3 win on the road. It was the first win for the Blue Devils this season and avenged their earlier 6-2 loss when they played the Eagles on May first. Junior midfielder Mitchell Dekanski led the scoring with 3g and freshman midfielder Dylan Tandle added 1g-1a. Senior goalkeeper Gino Poretta had 15s/3gs (83%) for the winners who will play Waterloo on Thursday. There was no report from Midlakes-Red Jacket at post time. [BOX SCORE]

Saturday: DAY IN REVIEW: Webster Thomas scored the first goal of the game and although Fairport quickly tied it, the Titans went ahead early in the second quarter and never gave up the lead in their 7-5 win at Fairport this afternoon. The spectators saw a very defensive game with Titan senior goalie Ethan Ruller making All-American saves and Fairport junior goalie McLean Ralston making 12s (63%).

Thursday: DAY IN REVIEW: It was opening day after a year without lacrosse and all four games today were mismatches. Bloomfield-Honeoye scored first in their opener at Waterloo and never lost the lead in what was a close game until in the last stanza, the Pride scored four unanswered goals. Junior midfielder JD Allen left the game with 6g-1a and senior attackman Max Willix had 2g-3a to lead the scoring. For Waterloo, sophomore attackman Nathan Costantino and junior midfielder Peter Shangraw each had 2g-1a for Waterloo who gets a few days off before player Wayne on Tuesday.
