Senior All-Star Game on Monday

Greater Rochester Lacrosse will host the 15th Annual Herb Fitch and Chris Barnes Senior All-Star Games on Monday, June 15 at Victor High School, 953 High St., Victor, NY, a night honoring two pillars of Rochester-area lacrosse while showcasing the region's top senior talent.

The Senior Girls All-Star Game tips off at 6:00pm, followed by the Senior Boys game at All-Star_Event8:00pm. Adult gate admission is $5, with youth admitted free. Food trucks, raffles, and vendors round out what promises to be a full evening of lacrosse and community celebration.

Honoring Herbert T. Fitch

The boys game carries the name of Herbert T. Fitch, a titan of the sport whose fingerprints on lacrosse span more than four decades. A standout at Geneva High School, Herb went on to compete at Hobart College from 1938 to 1942 before dedicating the rest of his life to the game as a player, coach, and official. His contributions earned him induction into both the Greater Rochester Hall of Fame and the US Lacrosse National Hall of Fame, a rare and fitting double honor. Beyond lacrosse, Fitch was a business owner and served as mayor of Penn Yan, embodying the kind of community servant that makes a sport truly matter. Greater Rochester Lacrosse has noted that Herb loved watching the growth of young athletes like those selected for the Senior All-Star games, and this annual game ensures his legacy lives on in every face-off.

Honoring Chris Barnes

The girls game bears the name of Chris Barnes, a Webster teacher and coach who built girls' lacrosse programs from the ground up with nothing but passion and dedication. Barnes began coaching girls lacrosse at Schroeder in the late 1990s, then founded the program at Thomas in 2003. His Thomas squad captured a Section V championship in 2006, a crowning achievement for a man who poured everything into his players. After a courageous two-year battle with colon cancer, Barnes passed away in 2018 at the age of 52. His name on this game is a reminder of what great coaches give, and what communities owe them.

Future All-Stars Youth Clinic

The evening begins with something for the next generation. Greater Rochester Lacrosse will host a free Future All-Stars Youth Lacrosse Clinic from 4:30–5:30pm, open to boys and girls in grades K–6, regardless of experience level. Beginners and veterans alike will learn from area college, high school, and youth coaches. Registration is free at grl.leagueapps.com/events. Note that all adults attending the clinic are subject to the $5 gate fee, which also covers access to the All-Star games.

June 15 at Victor High School is about more than lacrosse. It's about what the game means to a community, the coaches who built it, the legends who defined it, and the kids who will carry it forward.
