BATAVIA-NOTRE DAME-7 at GATES CHILI-15 - Gates Chili defeated Batavia-Notre Dame fifteen to seven in a non-league lacrosse match. Michael Alley led Gates Chili with five goals and four assists, while Jayden Maryjanowski added two goals and three assists. Batavia-Notre Dame's Harold Mellander scored three goals, and their goalies made a total of eight saves. Gates Chili's goalie Demar Williams achieved a sixty-eight percent save rate. Newark at Pal-MacMIDLAKES-20 at WAYNE-9 - The Midlakes Screaming Eagles triumphed over the Wayne Eagles 20-9 in Thursday's FL-D1 league game. Leading scorers for Midlakes included James Sprague (six goals, three assists), Carter Casper (four goals, three assists), and Nate Lathrop (four goals, four assists). For Wayne, Shane Coleman contributed three goals and one assist, while Tas Strickland added two goals and one assist. Midlakes goalie Stuart Quku posted a save percentage of fifty-seven, with twelve saves in forty-eight minutes. Freshman Stone Sozio scored his first varsity goal for Wayne. Aquinas beat Haverling 17-3 in their season opener, powered by Noah Olbrich and Jake Guggino`s six goals each. McQuaid Jesuit defeated St. Francis 8-3, extending their winning streak in this matchup to twelve games, with standout performances by Domenic Giangreco and Jack Rawleigh. Livonia-Avon-Geneseo triumphed over Gananda 13-5 in an Finger league game, with Colton Rose excelling as goalie and freshman Will Schweitzer celebrating his first varsity goal.  

HAVERLING-3 at AQUINAS-17 - Aquinas defeated Haverling 17-3 in their season opener, led by Noah Olbrich and Jake Guggino with six goals each. Aquinas’ goalie, Jake Gibson, had a 50% save rate, and Logan Schimmel recorded 100% in the final quarter. Lawrence Duncan scored twice for Haverling. MCQUAID JESUIT-8 at ST. FRANCIS-3 - McQuaid Jesuit triumphed over St. Francis 8-3 in a non-league game, marking their twelfth straight victory in this matchup since 2008. Domenic Giangreco and AJ Quagrello were the leading scorers for McQuaid, while Jack Rawleigh made thirteen saves with an 81% save rate. St. Francis managed three late goals but fell short. GANANDA-5 at LIVONIA-AVON-GENESEO-13 - Livonia-Avon-Geneseo defeated Gananda 13-5 in their FL-D1 league game. Max McEnerney and Mason Groh were the leading scorers for their teams. Livonia-Avon-Geneseo's goalie Colton Rose recorded sixteen saves at 76%, while Gananda’s Nick Falso made fourteen saves at 52%. Freshman Will Schweitzer scored his first varsity goal, and Gananda’s Alex Galka reached five hundred and one career faceoff wins. Livonia-Avon-Geneseo and Gananda host matches later this week.

The last time that the Li`l Irish won the title was also against Penn Yan back in 2010; in that game they snapped a 12 year winning streak for the Mustangs. This year they broke another 12 year winning streak.

Penn Yan defeated Aquinas 11-6 to win their 12th straight (and 27th overall) Sectional Championship.  The Mustangs had a slow start in the first quarter, but picked up the pace for the remainder of the game and led throughout.  After three quarters, the Mustangs led 7-2 before both teams added four goals each in the final quarter.

DAY IN REVIEW: SATURDAY - The teams are now complete for Tuesday and Wednesday nights at St. John Fisher University, where the 2023 Section V champions will be determined. In the Class B semi-finals, Irondequoit came out with the first three goals, but Victor came back with the win. In the second game at Pittsford Sutherland, in a close game that was not determined until the fourth quarter, Spencerport defeated Schroeder 6-4, sending the Rangers to their first Sectional finals. In Class D, Penn Yan scored four goals in the first quarter and led at the half 7-3 on their way to a 13-3 win over Marcus Whitman. Aquinas scored four goals in the first quarter and five in the second and led 9-2 at the half.

DAY IN REVIEW: WEDNESDAY - All of the quarterfinals in classes B and D were won by the higher seeded team except for # 7 Schroeder who, in a very low scoring close game, defeated #2 Canandaigua and will move on to play Spencerport in the semi-finals on Friday. An unmatched goal in the fourth quarter was one goal less than the Saints needed as Livonia-Avon won 8-7. Penn Yan has an overtime loss against a strong Lake Shore team from Buffalo and Schroeder held the Hawks scoreless in three quarters for their 5-3 win in Corning.

DAY IN REVIEW: TUESDAY - Although the majority of games ended in mismatches, there were a couple of exciting games. Topping the list is Canandaigua's 4-3 win at Brighton where neither team scored in the second half. Pittsford took an early lead and then never gave it up in the 8-6 win over visiting Irondequoit and Spencerport held Fairport scoreless in two quarters in their 7-3 win at home. Penfield scored four unanswered goals in the first quarter and then coasted to their 11-7 win over visiting Schroeder.

Thursday: DAY IN REVIEW: In the first minute of the game Victor scored two goals against Fairport and cruised to a 19-2 win at Fairport in their season opener.  Sam Ricci dominated at the faceoff X, winning 16 of 17 (94%). Marcus Whitman won their first game of the season in a good game with Gananda. A couple of goals before the half was the difference as Livonia-Avon defeated Pal-Mac 8-6. Other winners, most in not so close games were Wayne, Aquinas, Pittsford, Irondequoit and Thomas.
