Players of the Week - Group 9
Section V Boys Lacrosse Coordinator Mike Simon in conjunction with Geneva Club Beverages are sponsoring recognition of noteworthy performances throughout the season.
In our nineth group we have three juniors who had noteworthy performances in the last week.
Offensive Player of the Week
Brodie Joyce - Penfield Attackman
Brodie Joyce, the leading offensive player for the Patriots with 35g-44a, scored nine goals last week in key wins for the Patriots against Aquinas and Churchville-Chili. The junior attackman who is committed to play for Providence after graduation, has been a starter since his freshman year and has a career record of 85g-91a, 77gbs and 18tks.
Head Coach John Schembri says "Brodie is a team captain who has played a pivotal role in mentoring the next generation of offensive talent following the graduation of five key offensive starters last year. A three-year varsity player, Brodie brings a high level of lacrosse IQ and game knowledge that has significantly accelerated the development of our less experienced teammates. His leadership has been instrumental in building confidence and cohesion within our offense.
He is a complete player—equally capable of scoring, distributing the ball, riding, and playing strong defense. His versatility and unselfish play make him an invaluable asset to our team. We’re incredibly fortunate to have an offensive leader like Brodie."
Avery Valenti - Pittsford Midfielder
Avery Valenti is in his fourth year on the Varsity, having first arrived as an eighth grader, scoring 8g-3a toward his career record of 106g-22a. His seven goal game against Fayetteville-Manlius helped the Panthers win against the Section III powerhouse in a 12-11 thriller. His 2g-1a day against Canandaigua helped them secure an 11-10 win.
Head Coach Andrew Whipple says "Avery has worked extremely hard this season and the work has paid off with his performance on the field. Avery topped it off as the season was coming to a close with seven goals against Fayetteville-Manlius. He is a team leader and puts everything he has into every practice."
Defensive Player of the Week
Jake Gibson - Aquinas Goalie
Jake Gibson had a big game last week against Thomas where his twenty-three saves (74%) helped Aquinas to an 11-8 victory. Starting in his freshman year, Jake made 139 saves (63%) toward his three year record of 523s in 2000 minutes in the cage. He has been two-year Class D All-Tournament team pick.
Head Coach Bill Lombardi says, “Jake's performance was a byproduct of the preparation in the day's leading up to the game, along with a strong understanding of the game plan heading into Sunday's matchup. He was in lock step communication with his teammates, and did everything he could to help the team.”
