Wednesday: Schroeder Takes Out Canandaigua

DAY IN REVIEW: WEDNESDAY - All of the quarterfinals in classes B and D were won by the higher seeded team except for # 7 Schroeder who, in a very low scoring close game, defeated #2 Canandaigua and will move on to play Spencerport in the semi-finals on Friday. Victor, who beat C-C will play Irondequoit, who beat Brighton. In Class D, Aquinas beat Haverling and will play Newark who beat Mynderse. Penn Yan beat Bloomfield-Honeoye and will play Marcus Whitman who beat Gananda.

Brighton at IrondequoitBRIGHTON-2 at IRONDEQUOIT-11 in a Sect V Quarterfinal game - The game started out evenly, with the Eagles scoring three and Brighton scoring 2 in the first quarter. Then after three unanswered goals Irondequoit took a 6-2 lead at the half. Irondequoit faceoff specialist Jonah Carrier gave the Eagles plenty of ball time winning 11+/6- and in the goal, Nick Lepiane made 7s/2ga = 78% which made the difference. Leading the scoring for Irondequoit (10-7) were Aidan Greco (3g-2a), Cooper Moore (3g-1a), and Andre Bigham (3g). Irondequoit will play Victor on Saturday.

Brighton at IrondequoitCHURCHVILLE-CHILI-5 at VICTOR-19 in a Sect V Quarterfinal game - Victor had a run of five goals and another run of eight goals as eight different players scored goals for the 15-2 Blue Devils. Leading the scoring were Pax Marshall (3g-3a), Jack Herendeen (1g-4a), Aiden Clinkscales (4g-1a), Thomas Gravino (3g-2a), and sophomore midfielder Kyle Saeger (3g-1a). Facing off was senior Sam Ricci with 18+/2- = 90%, and sophomore JT Ricci with 6+/0- = 100%.

Scoring for Churchville-Chili (4-14) were junior attackman Colin Duncan (1g-1a), freshman attackman Jaxon Leonard (2g), junior midfielder Cameron Gefell (1g), and senior midfielder Camron Taylor (1g) and in the goal for Churchville-Chili was sophomore Beckham Clancy with 4s/0ga = 100% (12 mins). GANANDA-2 at MARCUS WHITMAN-12 in a Sect V Quarterfinal game - Seven different players scored goals for Marcus Whitman (10-7)  including Connor Gorton (4g-2a), Brody Royston (1g-4a), and Rylan Weissinger (2g-2a). Facing off for Marcus Whitman was junior Jullien Cokely with 9+/8- = 53% and in the goal was senior Blake Dunton with 5s/2ga = 71% (48 mins). The Wildcats will face Penn Yan on Saturday.

SCHROEDER-5 at CANANDAIGUA-4 in a Sect V Quarterfinal game - In the biggest upset of the tournaments, Schroeder took a 3-0 first quarter lead and held on through a three-goal run of unanswered goals by Canandaigua in the fourth quarter to send them into the semi-finals where they will meet Spencerport on Saturday. Scoring for Schroeder (7-10) were Colton Ugine (1g-2a), Anthony DeRosa (2g-1a), Nate Schilling (1g), and Garrett Conger (1g). In the goal for Schroeder was junior Casey Berns with 15s/4ga = 79% (48 mins).

Brighton at IrondequoitScoring for Canandaigua (12-5) were Sean Olvany (1g-1a), Nate Sheridan (2g), Luke McCrobie (1g), and Drew Williamee (1a).  Sophomore face off midfielder Mason DePew reached his 100th faceoff wins with his 6 wins (now 105 wins).   [ BOX SCORE

THOMAS-3 at SPENCERPORT-5 in a Sect V Quarterfinal game - In a close game with ties in the first and third quarters, sophomore midfielder Jayden Rodriguez (3g-1a) scored the go-ahead goal and an insurance goal in the fourth quarter to give the Rangers the win. Scoring for Spencerport (12-5) were Jayden Rodriguez (3g-1a), Zach Tortora (1g-1a), Jayden Mandarano (1g), and Cameron Mesh (1a)who also won 9+/3- = 75% faceoffs. The Rangers will play Schroeder in the semi-finals on Saturday.

Scoring for Thomas (6-11) were Joseph Tiberio (1g), Jack Burns (1g), Michael Dowden (1a), Jake Polizzi (1a), and Reid Doolittle (1g) and in the goal for Thomas, senior Zachary Isaac recorded 8s/5ga = 62% (48 mins).     [ BOX SCORE

Newark WinsMYNDERSE-7 at NEWARK-9 in a Sect V Quarter-final game - Leading the scoring for Newark (11-6) were Preston Steve (3g-1a), Tariq Joseph (2g-1a), and Jream Brown (2g). In the goal for Newark was junior Thomas Kirnie with 16s/7ga = 70% (48 mins). The Reds will play Aquinas in the semi-final round on Saturday. It is thier first trip to the final four since 2018.

HAVERLING-5 at AQUINAS-15 in a Sect V Quarterfinal game - Eight different players scored goals for Aquinas (12-4) including Tano Auriuso (4g), Grayson Gomes (3g), Tommy Maggio (2g-1a), Carter Wegman (1g-2a), and Noah Olbrich (2g). In the goal for Aquinas was freshman Jake Gibson with 2s/1ga = 67% (18 mins), and freshman Logan Schimmel with 8s/4ga = 67% (30 mins). Aquinas will play Newark in the semi-final round on Saturday/

In the goal for Penn Yan was sophomore Will Thompson with 3s/1ga = 75% (36 mins), and freshman Aiden Griffiths with 1s/0ga = 100% (12 mins). The Mustangs will play Marcus Whitman in the semis on Saturday.
