"The first six athletes on the first team are easy" said Section Five Assistant Coordinator, Paul Wilson. "after that, it becomes more difficult as we have so many excellent players."

[UPDATED] There were thirty-four teams playing in Section V. Bishop Kearney scheduled eight games but elected to forgo the tournament at the end of the season. There were players on the final rosters, up 256 players from 2023. Penfield and Victor carried the largest roster with thirty-eight players and Haverling and Pal-Mac with the smallest with nineteen.

Hilton and Thomas played a close game until the last quarter when the Cadets took off. CA was a 10-6 winner over Penfield and Marcus Whitman was a 10-7 winner over Gananda.

Penn Yan Head Coach Brian Hobart joins Randy Garrett (Fairport 371) and John Johnson (Canandaigua 357) in the 300 Club with the win today.

# 3413  Pittsford Wins Class A Title

After finishing the last two seasons as the Runner-up, Pittsford finally became the Class A Champions.  The Panthers defeated McQuaid Jesuit 9-5 tonight.  The game was close for the first half before Pittsford took over in the third and fourth quarters.  The Panthers scored eight straight goals spanning the second, third and fourth quarters.  The Panther defense held the Knights scoreless for over 36 minutes.  Leading the charge for the Panthers was Tournament MVP senior attackman Rex Kesselring.  Kesselring finished with 4g.

McQuaid Jesuit used a 7 goal third quarter to pull ahead and defeat Penfield 10-6 in tonight’s second match-up.  The game was a defensive game for three quarters with 9 of the 17 total goals coming in the third quarter.  Penfield’s Mason Schembri finished at 50% with 8 of his 10 saves coming in the first half.  McQuaid Jesuit’s Will Gordon finished at 60% with 9 saves in the contest.  Offensively, McQuaid Jesuit’s Henry Coke and Penfield’s Ethan Aust both finished with 3g to lead their respective teams.  McQuaid Jesuit moves on to face Pittsford in the Finals on Tuesday.

DAY IN REVIEW: SATURDAY - It took overtime after seven ties for the Rangers to beat McQuaid Jesuit 10-9. Brighton scored first and never looked back as they beat Aquinas 11-8. An unmatched goal in the fourth quarter was one goal less than the Saints needed as Livonia-Avon won 8-7. Penn Yan has an overtime loss against a strong Lake Shore team from Buffalo and Schroeder held the Hawks scoreless in three quarters for their 5-3 win in Corning.

At Pittsford, the Panthers held off late advances by St Joseph and took the 8-7 win. Of the six offensive players that scored at least ten goals last season, three of them were seniors and the produced 94 of 194 points. Gone are offensive leader Max Ettinghausen (28g-17a- Tufts) who with goalie Connor Winters (130s - 62%) were named Academic All-Americans. Also gone are midfielder Mike Hazard (23g-8a) and Cam Hocker (15g-3a). The Knights were 7-6 after a disappointing 11-10 overtime loss to Pittsford in the semifinals.

Wednesday: DAY IN REVIEW: The quarter finals were played today, and there were fourteen winners and fourteen teams that ended their seasons. Following the season trend, almost all were mismatches with only the Irondequoit at Thomas game close, for most of the game. As expected, all the higher seeded teams won today and the top four seeded teams are now set for the semifinals.
