Section V Wins Both Out-bracket Games in Buffalo

DAY IN REVIEW: WEDNESDAY - The two out-bracket games were played in Section VI at Williamsville East High School today and Section V won both the Class C (HFL) and Class D (Aquinas) games. The teams will now move to Maine Endwell High School on Saturday for the quarterfinal round of the NYSPHSAA tournaments.

Akron vs AQHFL-12 at LAKE SHORE/SILVER CREEK-7 - Freshman attackman Grady Goodberlet scored eight goals to lead the Cougars to a 12-7 win over Lake Shore/Silver Creek. HFL started slowly, with two unanswered goals by Goodberlet from Quinn Kailbourne(4g-2a) and Kailbourne from Chase Perryman (5a). The Cougars scored three more at the top of the second, leading 5-0 and the then the Eagles saw unassisted goals from Broady Himelein (2g-2a) and Raymond Cortes II (2g) to enter the half with HFL up 5-2. The third quarter was the busiest with HFL scoring six Akron vs AQand the Eagles scoring two.  The last quarter belonged Lake Shore who scored three and HFL scoing one. Drew Angelo, who won 14+/4- (81%) at the faceoff "X" also had two assists. Owen Smith and Mathews Brassie each added an assist for HFL.

Scoring for Lake Shore/Silver Creek (16-2) were Brody Himelein (2g-2a), Kolten Bonafede (2g), Keion Beaver (1g), and Raymond Cortes II (2g). Next up for HFL is a Saturday trip to the NYS quarterfinals at Maine Endwell High School (Section IV) where they will play Johnson City (5-12) at 6:00 PM.     [ BOX SCORE]

Akron vs AQAQUINAS-13 at AKRON-10 - Aquinas took a 6-3 first quarter lead and traded three goals with the Tigers in the second quarter giving Aquinas a 9-6 lead at the half. The first quarter run was enough as both teams scored four goals in the second half. Scoring for Aquinas (15-5) were Noah Olbrich (3g-1a), Tano Auriuso (6g-2a), Jake Guggino (3g-2a), Dom Siesto (1a), and Carter Wegman (1g). Scoring for Lake Shore/Silver Creek (16-2) were Brody Himelein (2g-2a), Kolten Bonafede (2g), Keion Beaver (1g), and Raymond Cortes II (2g). Aquinas will move on to the NYS quarterfinals at Maine-Endwell High School on Saturday with a 4:00 PM game against Chenango Valley (14-4).      [ BOX SCORE
