EDITOR'S NOTE: This weekly summary touches on some of the games played in the recent past and highlights some games of interest in the current week. For more in-depth coverage, click on the DAY OF THE WEEK for more coverage for that day, including box scores, articles, and galleries.

There were thirty-four games played last week. There are seventy-three out of section games scheduled and 20 have been played. Section V teams have won 15 and lost 5 (65%). There are six undefeated teams at this point.

Looking Back

Monday’s lacrosse matchups featured decisive victories across the board, with standout performances from players like Gianluca Auriuso, Grady Goodberlet, and Ryland Dunham. HFL at C-CTeams including Hilton, Geneva, and McQuaid Jesuit dominated their games, showcasing exceptional skill and teamwork.

Tuesday saw three Players of the Week, which honored Zach Tortora (Spencerport), Gianluca Auriuso (Hilton), Cody Whittaker (B-H) and AJ Theodorakakos (Penfield). In addition, there were six games played. Pittsford and Pal-Mac showcased their dominance with commanding wins, while standout performances from players like Griffin Hilimire and Rider VanZandt led their teams to victory. Balanced scoring and impressive defense were key themes across matchups, including Thomas's 24-9 triumph over Churchville-Chili and Livonia-Avon-Geneseo's 11-1 victory over Brockport.

On Wednesday Pittsford continued its dominance with a 16-10 victory, Spencerport at Pittsfordfueled by standout performances from Grant Lewis, Max Morgenstern, and goalie Bear Wehrheim. Canandaigua surged past Victor in the third quarter to claim a 9-6 win, while Mynderse-Romulus overcame Gananda 12-8 behind Griffin Hilimire's six-goal effort. Livonia-Avon-Geneseo secured an 11-1 win over Brockport, highlighted by Rider VanZandt’s faceoff success and Colton Rose's impressive goaltending. Thomas powered past Churchville-Chili 24-9, with balanced scoring contributions. Bloomfield-Honeoye dominated Marcus Whitman 14-3, and Pal-Mac remained unbeaten at 5-0 with a commanding 21-2 victory over Greece Storm.

Thursday saw a total of eight lacrosse games, with four of them decided by narrow margins. Canisius edged out Aquinas 10-9 in overtime after six ties throughout the game, while East United-Eastridge secured their first win of the season with a thrilling 7-6 overtime victory against Brockport. Hilton pulled away in the second quarter to claim a 9-4 win over Schroeder, with standout performances from Tyler Reger and Cahlan Smith. West Genesee defeated Penfield 12-9 in a competitive non-league matchup, led by Nash Oudemool’s four-goal effort. In the remaining contests, Pal-Mac dominated Newark 27-3, Penn Yan shut out Haverling 19-0, Gates Chili topped Batavia-Notre Dame 15-7, and Midlakes secured a commanding 20-9 win over Wayne.

HFL at CCOn Friday Spencerport increased their record to 3-1 with their victory over Rush-Henrietta. Zach Tortora (5g-1a) and Jayden Mandarano (4g-6a) led the offense.

The week wrapped up on Saturday with nine games that featured intense battles. Baldwinsville narrowly defeating Thomas 14-12 and Canandaigua overcoming Corning 13-9 behind Ryan Bremer's standout performance. Dominant wins included Penn Yan's 13-6 victory against Geneva and Bloomfield-Honeoye remaining undefeated with a commanding 15-6 triumph over East United-Eastridge.

Looking Ahead

It's vacation week with only twenty-one games scheduled and most during the morning or early afternoon. Monday has only two games as HFL is at Wayne and Irondequoit is on the road at Mamaroneck.Pitt at McQ

Tuesday has the most almost games with seven on the schedule including Canandaigua at Jamesville-DeWitt, R-H at Horseheads, Thomas at Penfield and and Westhill at Brighton.

No games are scheduled for Wednesday.

There are six games to be played on Thursday with one of the highlight games feature Penfield at Schroeder.

Friday will see a single contest as Fairport plays at Canandaigua.

The week ends with five games on Saturday and a bunch of good ones including Pittsford at Fayetteville-Manlius, Baldwinsville at Irondequoit and Victor at Shaker.

DAY IN REVIEW: SATURDAY - There were 11 games played today and 4 were close ones. Greece Storm was a 5-4 winner over Wayne. Gananda was a 11-9 winner over East United-Eastridge. Pal-Mac was a 7-6 overtime winner over Schroeder. Geneva defeated Auburn by a score of 9-8. 

WECHURCHVILLE-CHILI-18 at WATERLOO-5 - Churchville-Chili defeated Waterloo 18-5 in a non-league game on April 5th. Junior Jaxon Leonard led Churchville-Chili with six goals and one assist, while sophomore Jackson Worden recorded his first varsity goal for Waterloo. WAYNE-4 at GREECE STORM-5 - Greece Storm won a tight 5-4 non-league game against Wayne, led by Jackson Pioli`s two goals and Mitchell Barnes` 75% save rate in goal. CANISIUS-7 at MCQUAID JESUIT-18 - McQuaid Jesuit defeated Canisius 18-7 in a non-league game, led by Talin Parks (4g-2a) and AJ Quagrello (3g-2a). Eleven players scored for McQuaid, with goalie Jack Rawleigh achieving a 70% save rate. Canisius`s effort was highlighted by goals from Wyatt Van Tine and Braxton Kilgour. EAST UNITED-EASTRIDGE-9 at GANANDA-11 - Gananda defeated East United-Eastridge 11-9 in a closely contested non-league lacrosse game,WEwith leading scorers Brody Daciw and Jase Smith driving Gananda's offensive efforts. Goaltender Nick Falso played a crucial role with a 64 percent save rate. CANANDAIGUA-16 at IRONDEQUOIT-4 - Canandaigua defeated Irondequoit 16-4 in a non-league lacrosse game with contributions from nine goal scorers, including Ryan Bremer and Jack Stanney. Drew Williamee reached a career milestone of fifty assists. Quentin Shedrick recorded a save percentage of seventy-three percent in goal for Canandaigua. SCHROEDER-6 at PAL-MAC-7 in overtime - Pal-Mac edged out Schroeder 7-6 in an overtime non-league lacrosse game on Saturday. Schroeder`s leading scorers included Cody Preston with two goals and JD Stockmann, Jonny May, Parker Brown, and Garrett Conger each contributing offensively. WESophomore goalie Van Bolton recorded a sixty-seven percent save rate, and midfielder John Caricati won fourteen face-offs, marking his one hundredth career victory. HFL-20 at LIVONIA-AVON-GENESEO-5 - HFL secured a decisive 20-5 victory in Livonia over Livonia-Avon-Geneseo in a non-league lacrosse game. Grady Goodberlet achieved his 100th career goal, leading HFL with seven goals and two assists. BLOOMFIELD-HONEOYE-19 at MYNDERSE-ROMULUS-11 - Bloomfield-Honeoye emerged victorious against Mynderse-Romulus in a FL-D1 League game, winning 19-11. Leading scorers included Brayden Arber and Cody Whittaker for Bloomfield-Honeoye, and Jack Brady and Griffin Hilimire for Mynderse-Romulus. # 3506  Victor Downs Spencerport for Trip to the Finals

Victor defeated Spencerport 10-4 to advance to the Championship game on Tuesday.  The Blue Devils scored the first four goals of the game and never looked back.  Although the Rangers pressed hard to finish the third, the Blue Devils were able to score the final three goals and secure the win.  Leading in scoring for the Blue was senior Jack Herendeen with 2g-4a.  Junior Brody Secker finished with 2g-2a and both Jackson Mead and Aiden Clinkscales finished with 2g.  For the Rangers Zach Tortoara finished with 2g to lead his team.  In the cage for Spencerport, senior Taylor Kaye finished with 13 saves.

DAY IN REVIEW: WEDNESDAY - Penn Yan defeated Aquinas 11-6 to win their 12th straight (and 27th overall) Sectional Championship in the Class D game tonight. In the second game, Victor used seven different players including senior midfielder Braeden McConville who scored his first Varsity goal for the Blue Devils to the great delight of his teammates.

# 3416  Victor Wins First Title Since 2019

Victor won their first Championship title since 2019 with a 16-6 win over Spencerport. This was the first time in program history that Spencerport made the finals and the first time since Victor’s six year winning Streak (2014-2019) that the Blue Devils had made the finals. In addition to Victor Boys winning their title, the Victor Girls Lacrosse Team also won their Championship earlier in the evening with an 8-7 in quadruple overtime win over Irondequoit.

DAY IN REVIEW: SATURDAY - The teams are now complete for Tuesday and Wednesday nights at St. John Fisher University, where the 2023 Section V champions will be determined. In the Class B semi-finals, Irondequoit came out with the first three goals, but Victor came back with the win. In the second game at Pittsford Sutherland, in a close game that was not determined until the fourth quarter, Spencerport defeated Schroeder 6-4, sending the Rangers to their first Sectional finals. In Class D, Penn Yan scored four goals in the first quarter and led at the half 7-3 on their way to a 13-3 win over Marcus Whitman. Aquinas scored four goals in the first quarter and five in the second and led 9-2 at the half.

Spencerport moves on the Class B Tournament for the first time in program history after their 6-4 win over Webster Schroeder.  The Rangers scored the last four goals of the game and held the Warriors scoreless throughout the second half.  Goalie Taylor Kaye finished with five saves (1 in the second half) on the game for the Rangers.  For the Warriors, Casey Berns recorded 7 saves.

DAY IN REVIEW: WEDNESDAY - All of the quarterfinals in classes B and D were won by the higher seeded team except for # 7 Schroeder who, in a very low scoring close game, defeated #2 Canandaigua and will move on to play Spencerport in the semi-finals on Friday. Victor, who beat C-C will play Irondequoit, who beat Brighton. In Class D, Aquinas beat Haverling and will play Newark who beat Mynderse. Penn Yan beat Bloomfield-Honeoye and will play Marcus Whitman who beat Gananda.

DAY IN REVIEW: TUESDAY - There were fourteen games played and it was the last game of the regular season for some teams. The Blue Panthers held off a fourth quarter surge by the Pride and held on for the 13-12 win. Aquinas, likewise held off a last quarter surge by the Lakers, winning 12-10 and locking up the GRALL title. Thomas won the battle at Webster and Penn Yan had a shutout against Clarence.

DAY IN REVIEW: SATURDAY - It took overtime after seven ties for the Rangers to beat McQuaid Jesuit 10-9. Brighton scored first and never looked back as they beat Aquinas 11-8. An unmatched goal in the fourth quarter was one goal less than the Saints needed as Livonia-Avon won 8-7. Penn Yan has an overtime loss against a strong Lake Shore team from Buffalo and Schroeder held the Hawks scoreless in three quarters for their 5-3 win in Corning.

Topping the list is Canandaigua's 4-3 win at Brighton where neither team scored in the second half. Pittsford took an early lead and then never gave it up in the 8-6 win over visiting Irondequoit and Spencerport held Fairport scoreless in two quarters in their 7-3 win at home. Penfield scored four unanswered goals in the first quarter and then coasted to their 11-7 win over visiting Schroeder.

Tuesday: DAY IN REVIEW: Long-time Penfield coach, John Schembri won his 150th game today at the Patriots defeated Churchville-Chili 15-4. Hilton used overtime to beat Thomas with a goal by senior attackman Nicholas Fede. McQuaid won their first series game against Rush-Henrietta. At Pittsford, the Panthers held off late advances by St Joseph and took the 8-7 win. Other winners were HF-L, Schroeder and Brockport who gave their Head Coaches a first win, East-United-Eastridge, Livonia-Avon and Spencerport.
