# 3176 Two-Time All-Americans
The first National Interscholastic Lacrosse Association All-Americans in Section V were awarded in 1971 when Andrew Gallina* from Irondequoit and Jim Darcangelo from Corning East were the recipients. Gallina led the league is points his senior year and continued his career at Brown. Darcangelo went on to play at Towson, where he was a three-time All-American, two-time “Player of the Year” and was inducted into the National Hall of Fame in 1990. As of this writing, there have been 208 All-American awards from 1971 to 2021. The formula for the number of awards has changed over the fifty years and the one constant in the process is that the coaches in the section have selected the winners. Fifteen players have had the great distinction of being selected in both their junior and senior years. |

The Rochester city schools combined to form East United. With the changes and combinations, there were thirty-five teams and 942 players. Fairport carried the largest roster with forty players and Batavia had the smallest with sixteen. |

# 1449 Victor Falls to Garden City Garden City returned to the State Finals for the first time since 2013 when they won the Title game over Jamesville-Dewitt 13-8. Today they defeated the three-time defending State Champion Victor Blue Devils. The Trojans came to win and took and early 3-1 lead that they never quite gave back. The first and fourth quarters were a flurry of activity while the middle two quarters showed a lot of testing from both teams. The Trojans were led in offensive by junior James Basile (3g) and Liam Muldoon (2g-1a). Basile’s final goal was the winning goal that was scored with 0:01 remaining on the clock. |

# 1434 Victor Wins in Overtime Alexander Mabbett scored off a feed from Joey Pezzimenti 1:59 into the second overtime period to give Victor the 10-9 win over Webster Thomas. This is the fifth consecutive win for the Blue Devils. Victor started off the game strong and took an early 5-2 in the second quarter. They continued to put up points and increased their lead to 7-3 with 9:50 remaining in the third quarter. After that Thomas put on the back-burners. They scored four straight goals before Victor added their 8th. The Titans continued to push all the way through the fourth and into the two overtime periods. Both teams had shots at the cage in overtime and it was edge of your seat lacrosse for both periods. |

The Warriors played a close fought quarter and a half before Victor scored seven unanswered goals spanning the last three quarters. Victor opened up the soring with Mitchell Cain assisting Alexander Mabbett 1:09 into the game. Schroeder responded with back to back goals to take the lead. Jonathan Kay assisted Hunter Olsen for an outside midrange shot. Three minutes later, Connor Bollin assisted Justin Connolly to the left flat. The first quarter continued with back and forth attempts at the cage. Neither team scored until Victor came off a dead ball with 0:02 remaining. A quick pass onto the crease by Sam Lambert to Cain tied the game at 2-2 as time expired. |

Penn Yan won in double overtime with a goal by Colton Smith. Gananda won an exciting 11-10 victory over Pal-Mac as the combination of seniors Brett Cunningham and Henry Bush combined for seven goals which proved to be the difference. # 1285 All Greater Rochester 2017 The Rochester Democrat and Chronicle announced their 2017 All-Greater Rochester Lacrosse team today. The list features the top sixteen players and a number of honorable mentions were led by Canandaigua senior Attackman, Devin Andrews who was named "Player of the Year". Andrews, who was also a US Lacrosse All-American, scored 72 goals and 47 assists this year. The SportsFive Offensive Player of the Year plans to study and play at Stony Brook next year. |

The Blue Devils are the two-time defending State Champions and are looking for their third straight win. Victor will face Yorktown (Section I). Downstate , Class B and Class B will be played at SUNY Albany and the Class C and Class D games will be played at Adelphi University. Victor controlled nearly the entire contest and led 6-1 with just over 2 minutes remaining in the contest. Zach Estabrooks score four goals for the Blue Devils and goalie Chayse Ierlan made 7s (70%) for Victor. There was a large crowd and Pittsford asked for a $2.00 donation in support of the National Wounded Warrior Foundation in the Shootout for Soldiers that will be hosted by Canandaigua this summer. |

Connor Kennan scored with an assist from Sam Lambert to give Victor a 5-4 win at home this morning. # 444 Semi: Victor to Meet Pittsford in Finals Victor scored thirteen goals before Webster Schroeder got on the board. The Blue Devils won 21-4. They score too many unanswered goals to itemize each play. However, some stand-out performances throughout the game included: Ryan Maloney intercepting a pass between a defenseman and the goalie and scoring behind the back without breaking stride and long stick Patrick Barrow taking the ball coast and coast and scoring. Schroeder's first goal was scored with an impressive cross crease feed through traffic from Conor Bollin to Collin Griffin. Bollin finished with 2g-1a on 4 goals for the Warriors. |
# 439 2016 All-Section Five List Released This is the sixth year for the Section Five All-Section Team. It is an effort by the Lacrosse Committee and the coaches of Section Five to identify some of the top players among the over 1,100 varsity players in the section this year. Nominations for the lists came from Head coaches, administrators and SportsFive personnel. This year 15 players were selected for the first team, 13 players for second team and this year, 12 players on the third team. Our six All Americans automatically make the first team. All players on this list must first be named to their first team All-League teams or be from Independent teams. |
# 438 2016 All Tournament Teams Announced The All Tournament Teams for 2016 were announced at each final. MVPs for A, B and C were Ryan Maloney (Victor), Nick Mabe (Thomas) and Ben Emerson (Penn Yan). Players were selected on the basis of their performances in the Section Five Tournaments. |
# 435 Victor Over OP in Westerns It was the second meeting of the Victor Blue Devils and the Orchard Park Quakers this year and the result was the same as the Blue Devils defeated the powerful Section VI Class A Quakers 17-7 in the Western Regionals in Buffalo today. The first game (on April 30th) saw Victor winning 19-5. |
# 431 Victor Over Corning in Semis There is not much to say about the Victor Blue Devil win tonight as they cruised past Corning in the semifinal Class A game at Bragman Stadium (CN-S High School). Victor face off specialist won his first eleven face offs in the first half (and finished with 17 of 18) to give the Blue Devils almost exclusive ball time. With a very patient opening offense the players moved the ball from every direction, while scoring four unanswered goals in the first quarter and ending the half up 9-1. |

# 158 Victor in Big Comeback Win Pittsford came into the "Big Game" ready to avenge their earlier loss and eager to prove that they could be "the top team in the country and they nearly did so. After leading for most of the game. Victor senior attackman scored three goals in a row to give the Blue Devils their second and final lead of the game. |
