Class B State Title - Victor over Yorktown
Victor won their third straight State Title with a 9-3 win over Yorktown. The Blue Devils trailed briefly after Yorktown scored the opening goal. However, they responded with seven goals and controlled the pace of the entire game. The Huskers added two goals in the third, but they never came back within range. The Blue Devils were led in scoring by Class B Offensive MVP Alexander Mabbett with 2g-2a. Matt Gardner was named Defensive Player of the Game.
Yorktown opened up the scoring with Kyle Casey assisting Jamison Embry on a feed from behind the cage. Victor scored three more goals to finish out the quarter. Mitchell Cain scored the first Blue Devil goal on a drive down the middle. Forty seconds later, Mabbett scored his first goal from a cut to the crease and feed from Joey Pezzimenti. Anthony Pezzimenti scored the third goal with another drive down the lane. Victor led 3-1 after 12 minutes.
In the second quarter, Victor added another four goals and continued to hold Yorktown scoreless. Zach Estabrooks and Mabbett scored back to back with straight drives from the top of the restraining line. The latter two goals were scored with inside feeds to the crease. The first was scored by Sam Lambert (assisted by Mabbett) and the second was Connor Keenan (assisted by Lambert). Victor led 7-1 at halftime. In the third quarter, Yorktown scored the first two goals to put the score at 7-3, but that was their last goal of the game. Justin Comerford scored with a feed from behind by Casey and Hunter Embury scored with a drive through traffic.
The Blue Devils added one goal in the third quarter. With 0:04 remaining on the clock, Lambert drove from behind the cage and crossed the cage to Keenan. The Blue Devils led 8-3 after three quarters. In the fourth, Victor added a single goal and held off Yorktown’s offense. The only goal was scored during man-up with Joey Pezzimenti scoring with a feed to the flat during extra-man offense. The Blue Devils controlled the pace and slowed it down to hold for their third Title. In the cage for Yorktown, Louis Ragusa finished with 10 saves. For Victor, Chayse Ierlan recorded 6 saves.
