Victor over Pittsford, Brighton Over Schroeder
Thursday: DAY IN REVIEW: There were four one-goal games today as HF-L beat Spencerport, Aquinas bested Livonia-Avon in overtime, Waterloo beat B-H and Brighton defeated Schroeder. Pittsford played a close game but lost to Victor and Thomas remained undefeated with their win over Hilton.
Fairport scored six of the last eight goals to defeat Canandaigua 8-5. The Red Raiders consistently scored two goals in each quarter; while the Braves scored 4 goals in the second quarter and the final goal of the match. Fairport scored the opening two goals of the first quarter while their defense held the Braves scoreless for 13 minutes. Story Continues...
After ties at every score and four lead changes, Brighton defeated Schroeder 6-5. The Barons snapped their three game loosing streak after scoring the final two goals of the game to retake the lead. Hunter Olsen opened the game with an unassisted goal for Schroeder. Brighton responded with two goals of their own before the end of the first quarter. Brady McDermott scored the opener and assisted the second. Of the six goals, McDermott was a part of five (2g-3a).
In the second quarter, Schroeder outscored Brighton 3-1 to take a 4-1 lead going into halftime. Payton Hall, Conor Bollin and Olsen scored for the Warriors. McDermott was the lone Baron scorer on an unassisted goal. In the third quarter, Brighton won 2-1 to tie the game going into the forth. The only goal in the fourth quarter was scored by Owen Ronchetti off a feed from McDermott. In the cage for Brighton, Caleb Green finished at 50% with 5 saves. For Schroeder, Evan Alfano recorded 4 saves and Payton Hall finished 10/15 at the draw.
Pal-Mac had steady scoring to cement their 10-4 victory over visiting Geneva. Jake Gallina had 4g-1a for Pal-Mac. Geneva reports that Jacob Drennen had 27 saves (73%) in the game.
Victor opened the scoring with the only goal of the first quarter on their way to a 5-3 win over Pittsford. The Blue Devil’s first goal was scored by Anthony Pezzimenti off a feed from Mitchell Cain. Victor controlled the pace of the game and outshot the Panthers 8-3 in the first quarter. Over the course of the game, Victor outshot Pittsford 24-13; however, Pittsford took their time with shots and ended up leading in shots on cage 11-10.
Chayse Ierlan recorded 7 saves (70%) for Blue Devils and Brecken Catalano recorded 9 saves (64%) for the Panthers. After Pezzimenti’s goal, the Blue Devils never trailed. Pittsford forced a single tie at 3-3 early in the fourth quarter. Victor responded with the last two goals of the game, both from Andrew Russell, to take the 5-3 win.
Sophomore attackman Dillon McCann scored three goals and junior midfielder Toby Loucks added 1g-2a to give Waterloo their first win of the season as they defeated Bloomfield-Honeoye 8-7. Chance Sheldon made 11 saves for Waterloo (61%) and Devin Campbell made 13 saves (62%) for the Pride.
HF-L held off the late push by Spencerport to defeat the Rangers 11-10. The Cougars scored the first goal and although there were two ties, they never trailed in the win. Spencerport’s two forced ties came at the second goal and the second to last goal. In the middle, HF-L took a five goal lead (6-1) before the Rangers began to fight back. In the third quarter, Jack Lehtonen scored off a feed from Mark Schnauber to bring the game within one (7-6). HF-L responded with two more goals from Garrett Ruff (both unassisted).
The Rangers fought back with four of the next five goals to tie the game at 10-10 with 1:55 remaining in regulation off an unassisted goal by Jonathan Agness. The game had not been tied since 1-1 with 7:36 remaining in the first quarter. Tyler Kaufman scored the game winning goal for the Cougars with 0:54 remaining.
In the sole overtime game of the night, Aquinas defeated Livonia-Avon 11-10. The game winning goal was scored by Eli Chalmers off a feed from Jonathan Parrinello. Chalmers led in scoring for the Little Irish with 6g-1a (7 of the 11 goals). Aquinas started off strong by scoring the first four goals. The Little Irish held that lead until the first goal of the second half tied up the game at 5-5. After a goal from Nate Adams the Lakers took their first lead at 6-5 and each subsequent point tied the game through 10-10.
Livonia-Avon scored the go-ahead goal four times and each time the Little Irish forced the tie. In the final four minutes, Aquinas scored two back to back to take back the lead 10-9. The Lakers were required to force overtime with a goal from Aiden Sauter off a feed from Ryan Lambert with only 0:22 remaining in regulation. Chalmers scored the game winner with 2:14 remaining in overtime.
Other teams winning today were Penfield, Thomas, Irondequoit, Greece Storm and Wayne.
