1st Soph Commit - Willie Klan to Ohio State

The first verbal commitment of the year by a sophomore in Section Five was announced yesterday as Webster Schroeder goalie Willie Klan announced his decision to play at Ohio State after his expected graduation in 2015. He looked at Syracuse, Maryland and the University of North Carolina before making his decision. Full Story

Avon Varsity Joins Section Five but ER Drops Lacrosse

Section Five lacrosse adds a new team in 2013 as Avon Central School joins the Varsity ranks. Unfortunate, the Section lost one team as East Rochester ended it's program after 2012. Full Story

Burdette Chooses SUNY Albany

Penn Yan defenseman, Jimmy Burdette recently announced his decision to play lacrosse at SUNY Albany after graduation his spring. A strong long-stick for the Mustangs, he is not afraid to race down-field and take a shot on goal. Full Story

Hartford Gets Nick Kimmins

Penfield High School rising senior Nick Kimmins made a summer-time commitment to play lacrosse at Hartford after his final year with the Patriots. Full Story

Kenny Nelson Selects Mercyhurst

Webster Schroeder High School rising senior Kenny Nelson recently announced his commitment to play lacrosse at Mercyhurst University (Erie, PA). The attackman, was the team leader in goals and points with 29g-5a last year. Off-season he had been on the Nike Upstate Rising junior team, and last summer played on the Brine National tournament where he was named a Brine All-American. He also played on the Western Team in the Empire Cup Tournament in Syracuse. Full Story

Andrew Schoeneck Chooses Bellarmine

Andrew Schoeneck recently announced his decision to attend Bellarmine University after his senior year at Penfield. Schoeneck had a strong 2012 season where the left-handed attackman scored 46g-17a and was selected to the first team Monroe County D1 list. He was also named to the Class A All Sectional team. Off season he has been a member of the Rochester Brine All American team that played in July and won the Brine National Classic. He played his club lacrosse with the Rochester Blaze. Full Story

Drew Tschetter, from Canandaigua Lacrosse, will be traveling to Santiago, Chile to teach English. He has made contacts with players interested in starting a lacrosse program in their country. Full Story

Penn Yan Alumnus Picked for Notre Dame Job

2002 Penn Yan attackman and Notre Dame alumnus (2006) Matt Karweck was recently appointed as an Assistant Coach for the Fighting Irish. Karweck, a Section Five All-Tournament player as a junior, helped the Mustangs win Sectional titles all four years and was part of the 2001 State Championship team as well. Full Story

2012 NYS Scholar / Athlete Awards

At the end of each sport season, the NYSPHSAA honors those teams that excel in the classroom. For lacrosse, a team must have at least eleven players who have a 90% average or better during the spring season. Full Story

Derek Richards Commits to 'The Hurst'

Derek Richards has made the decision to play at D-2 powerhouse, Mercyhurst University, after his graduation next spring. The attackman has been playing on Hilton Varsity squad since his freshman year and hit the century mark for points this year after posting a 21g-39a junior season. His career totals after three years are 42g-58a. Full Story

Hudson Valley Leads Empire Cup Games

After two days of play, Hudson Valley remains undefeated at 5-0 while the Western team is currently at 2-3. Three games were played by each of the regions today. Full Story

Hudson Valley vs NYC in Empire Cup Games Finals

The finals have now been set up with Hudson Valley playing New York City for the gold medal at 12:30 and Western playing Long Island for the bronze at 11:00. Sunday will start at 9:30 with Central playing Adirondack for fifth place. Full Story

Rochester Team wins Brine National Classic. . . Again

Albe DiPasquale, a Pittsford attackman's goal, with ten second left in the finals gave Rochester another Brine National Lacrosse Classic Championship. Rochester won with a 6-5 victory over the team from Washington DC on July 3, 2012 at the Maryland Soccerplex. Full Story

Victor Blue Devils Looking for New Coach

Victor High School is looking for a new Head Coach to replace Mike Gottko, who recently stepped down for the position. Gottko, one of the most "traveled" coaches in the Section has served as Head Coach at Rush-Henrietta, Brighton and Victor. Full Story

Rising Seniors to Compete in Syracuse

Fairport coach, Eric Carlsen has announced the players selected to play in this weekend's Nike Rising Senior games. The games began as a replacement for the former Empire State Games which were canceled as part of a financial cutback by NYS. This year's contests will took place at Henninger High School on July 14th. Full Story
