Irondequoit Middie Ben Brooks Commits to Lakers
Irondequoit "two-way" middie. Ben Brooks has announced his commitment to play at Mercyhurst University after his up-coming senior year with the Eagles.
Ben was named to the Brine National High School All-American team this summer and also plays for the Blaze rising senior team. He will join his brother, Ian who is a rising junior midfielder for the Lakers.
Mercyhurst, which last year moved from a College to a University, has been a strong NCAA Division II team for quite some time. Under Head Coach Chris Ryan who is, himself, an Irondequoit alumnus, the Lakers have been consistent tournament contenders. In 2011 they won the D-II National Championship with a 9-8 win over Adelphi. Last year's team produced the first undefeated regular season record (All sports at Mercyhurst). The Lakers have made five national semifinal appearances. The program has had thirty All-Americans, seven Academic All-Americans and numerous other distinctions during Coach Ryan's tenure.
