Avon Varsity Joins Section Five but ER Drops Lacrosse
Section Five lacrosse adds a new team in 2013 as Avon Central School joins the Varsity ranks. Unfortunate, the Section lost one team as East Rochester ended it's program after 2012.
There was no movement in the class structures for 2013 after the approval of the BEDS numbers (that reflect the number of students enrolled).
The number of Class A teams in the Section will remain at ten in 2013. The Class B teams will remain at nine. In Class C there will eighteen once again.
The Avon Braves have been playing junior varsity and modified schedules and will now add a Varsity team in 2013. The team will play in the Greater Rochester Area Lacrosse League (GRALL) and is a Class C team.
The New York State Public High School Athletic Association sets the class structure. Teams whose school census numbers (BEDS figures) are above 1,049 are in Class A. Teams with school populations for 650 to 1,049 are in Class B and teams with less than 650 in their schools are classified into Class C.
