HF-L and Victor Open NYS Tournament Play Wednesday Night

lax pic

Williamsville North High School will host a pair of New York State boys lacrosse tournament first-round games on Wednesday evening, with Section V programs traveling west to face Buffalo-area opponents in the first step to the New York State Championships.

hfl vs hamburg

The action gets underway at 5 p.m. with a Class C matchup between Honeoye Falls-Lima and Hamburg. The Cougars arrive as four-time Section V champions and the defending western regional entrant, carrying a 10-6 record built against one of the tougher schedules in the state, including a 16-12 victory over Brighton and a 7-4 win over Hamburg back on April 18.

Hamburg, the Section VI Class C champion at 11-7 overall and a perfect 8-0 in league play, won the sectional title and brings a potent offense capable of big scoring nights. The Bulldogs have been held to four goals in both previous meetings with HF-L this year and last, so breaking through against the Cougars' defense remains their primary challenge. HF-L is favored based on the head-to-head history and a superior cross-section resume, but Hamburg's sectional championship and explosive offense make this worth watching.

victor vs op

The nightcap at 7:30 p.m. brings the biggest game of the week, Class B, with Section V champion Victor taking on Section VI champion Orchard Park. The Blue Devils carry an 18-2 record and the second-highest ranking in New York, with both losses coming by a single goal to elite programs.

Orchard Park finished 17-1, with its only defeat a 7-11 loss to Penfield in April, the same Patriot team that Victor beat 11-8 in the regular season. The Quakers boast what may be among the best defenses in the field, surrendering fewer than five goals per game against a schedule that included McQuaid, Irondequoit, and Fairport. Victor holds the analytical edge on the strength of their schedule, rankings, and postseason form, but Orchard Park is a legitimate threat.  Full Story

Championship Saturday: Four Titles on the Line at Fisher

lax pic
Section V Championships | St. John Fisher University | May 30, 2026

The wait is over. After months of league play, rivalries renewed, and records broken, Section V crowns its champions tomorrow at St. John Fisher University. Four games. Four titles. One unforgettable day of lacrosse.

Digital tickets are required and must be purchased in advance through GoFan at https://gofan.co/app/school/NYSPHSAAV.

CLASS B - 10:00 AM
#1 Pittsford Panthers (18-0) vs. #2 Victor Blue Devils (16-2)

Pittsford enters the day as the only undefeated team remaining in Section V, with a defense that has been stifling all season and an offense that has found ways to win in every situation. Victor has been equally impressive, dropping just two games all year and playing some of the best lacrosse in the section down the stretch.

These two teams have already met once this season, with Pittsford surviving a 13-12 thriller in April that came down to the final seconds. That result is sure to be on both teams' minds when the opening whistle blows tomorrow morning. A rematch of that caliber promises to be one of the highlights of the day.

CLASS C - 12:30 PM
#1 Honeoye Falls-Lima Cougars (11-6) vs. #2 Geneva Panthers (13-5)

HFL and Geneva have not faced each other this season, but they share six common opponents — Aquinas, Midlakes, Penn Yan, Wayne, Livonia-Avon-Geneseo, and Mynderse-Romulus — and both finished 4-2 against that group. By nearly every measure, these are two evenly matched teams meeting at exactly the right moment. Geneva's overall record reflects a strong and consistent season through a competitive Finger Lakes schedule. HFL has shown the ability to put up big offensive numbers and has been battle-tested in close games. Expect a competitive afternoon matchup.

CLASS D - 3:00 PM
#1 Palmyra-Macedon Red Raiders (16-2) vs. #2 Penn Yan Mustangs (15-3)

Pal-Mac has been one of the most productive offenses in Section V all season, piling up wins with consistency and depth throughout the lineup. Penn Yan has been equally impressive, navigating one of the tougher schedules in their class and proving themselves against quality competition week after week. The two teams share four common opponents — Midlakes, Mynderse-Romulus, Brighton, and Geneva — and performed similarly against all of them. Both programs arrive at Fisher with legitimate championship credentials and plenty of motivation.

CLASS A - 5:30 PM
#1 McQuaid Jesuit Knights (11-6) vs. #2 Penfield Patriots (13-4)

Championship Saturday closes with a Class A matchup between two programs that have earned their way to Fisher through difficult schedules and competitive league play. McQuaid has faced one of the toughest slates in the section and has shown a knack for winning close games, with three of their victories coming in overtime. Penfield has been steady all season, with a 13-4 record built against strong Monroe County competition. The two teams share six common opponents in Irondequoit, Thomas, Hilton, Rush-Henrietta, Orchard Park, and Pittsford, and have each found ways to win and lose against that same group. It sets up as a fitting final game of the day.

All four games are at St. John Fisher University. Digital tickets are required and can be purchased at https://gofan.co/app/school/NYSPHSAAV. Good luck to all eight teams — see you at Fisher. Full Story
