Marcellus Pulls Away Early, Ends Penn Yan's Season

MARCELLUS-19 at PENN YAN-11 - Marcellus scored the opening goal and although Penn Yan kept the game close, they never forced a tie in the 19-11 win for Marcellus. Marcellus was led in scoring by Chris Doshna (6g-3a) and Henry Lawrence (7g-2a). Defensively, goalie Otto Moses had played a strong game with 18 recorded saves. For Penn Yan, Miles Ditzell (1g-2a) led in scoring with Levi Fisher, Logan Sprague and Braden Fingar each added 2 goals to the tally. In the cage for Penn Yan ,Wilson Olvia played the majority of the game and recorded 8 saves. Jameson Milroy came into the game in the final 6 minutes and recorded 1s/1ga.

Marcellus opened up the day with six of the first seven goals to lead 6-1 at the end of 12 minutes. Lawrence and Doshna each scored two goals with Donavan Fraher and Nick Rayfield scored the third and fourth of the quarter. The lone Penn Yan goal was scored by Fingar with a dodge straight at the goal with 9:35 remaining on the clock. That was the first offensive opportunity that the Mustangs in the game. In the second quarter, Penn Yan scored back to back goals to start the quarter and pull the game within three. Ditzell scored the first with a loose ball pick up on the crease. Greyson Hathway scored the second with a face-off fast-break after grabbing his own ground ball. The face-off was fairly split with both Hathway and the Marcellus face-off man winning about half each. Marcellus kept up the pressure with another run of four goals. Penn Yan got another point on the board after a defensive error by Marcellus found the ball in the back of the net with 2:58 remaining on the clock. In the final three minutes each team added one more goal. For Marcellus, Lawrence scored unassisted and for Penn Yan Collin Bacher scored off an assist from Fingar. The score was 11-5 going into halftime.

In the third quarter, Penn Yan once again started off the quarter strong with back to back goals. Levi Fisher scored off an inside feed from Fingar. This was followed quickly by a broken clear goal by Logan Sprague. As much as Penn Yan pushed to keep the game close, every time that they had a run, Marcellus responded with a run of their own. The third quarter ended with Marcellus leading 14-10. In the fourth quarter, they kept up the pressure with another run of four goals. They took their largest lead of the game 18-10 with six minutes left in the game off a beautiful give and go by Lawrence (with the assist to Will Vanderhoof).

Marcellus moves on to play the winner of Schuylerville Potsdam in the next round. The winner of that game will return to Hobart on Sunday June 14th to play the winner of Bronxville vs. Cold Spring Harbor.
