# 3148  2021 Season Wrap Up

There were four classes for the sectional tournaments. Two of the four top seeded won their championships. Fairport (#1) beat Pittsford (#3) 6-5 in overtime in Class A. In Class B, Thomas (#3) defeated Canandaigua (#1) 6-5 and in Class C, HF-L (#3) defeated Livonia-Avon (#1) 19-10. In Class D, Penn Yan (#1) won their twenty-fifth sectional title with a 16-2 win against Pal-Mac (#3).

Sam Bennett (Canandaigua), senior midfielder/FO Logan Callahan (Victor), senior midfielder/attackman Cal Lambert (Victor), junior defenseman Eric Platten (Canandaigua) and senior goalie Ethan Ruller (Thomas) were named USA Lacrosse All Americans from Monroe County.

*+The 2021 Section V Player of the year honors were announced at the end of the Section Five Class B Championship game. The winners, all from Class B teams were Logan Callahan from Victor, Ethan Ruller from Webster Thomas and Will Hand from Penfield.

# 3142  Thomas Tops Canandaigua for Class B Title

*+Webster Thomas never trailed in their 6-5 win over Canandaigua tonight to secure their fourth Sectional Championship and the first since 2016.  In 2018, freshman Ethan Ruller started in the cage for Webster Thomas and helped take his team to the Sectional Finals.

# 3141  Fairport Wins in Overtime

Fairport defeated Pittsford in overtime 6-5 tonight to secure their 10th Sectional Title and second consecutive title (2019 win over Hilton 9-4). This is the fourth straight tournament that have seen the Red Raiders in the finals. With tonight's win, the Red Raiders moved into third for the most titles by any program in Section Five.

# 3136  Semi Finals: Thomas Over Victor - Pittsford Over McQuaid

Saturday: DAY IN REVIEW: Just like yesterday, two top seeds won and two third seeds beat second seeds. Pittsford was down 9-3 before scoring six goals in the final quarter and forcing two overtime periods to defeating McQuaid 11-10. Thomas scored early and kept the Blue Devils behind on their way to a 10-7 win in Class B. Fairport came back from a 5-3 half, scoring seven goals in the third quarter to punch their championship ticket with an 11-6 win over Hilton. Canandaigua scored six unanswered goals in the first half and finished 8-3 over Penfield.

# 3134  Quarter Finals: From Thirty-One to Sixteen

Wednesday: DAY IN REVIEW: The quarter finals were played today, and there were fourteen winners and fourteen teams that ended their seasons. Following the season trend, almost all were mismatches with only the Irondequoit at Thomas game close, for most of the game. As expected, all the higher seeded teams won today and the top four seeded teams are now set for the semifinals.

Wednesday: DAY IN REVIEW: Four more teams joined Batavia and BK as they finished the regular season today. Churchville-Chili, Greece, Pittsford, and Penfield finished and will wait for tournament seeding on Sunday. Irondequoit won a close one with Churchville-Chili. Victor won a close one with Pittsford and Brockport won a close one with East United-Eastridge.

Friday: DAY IN REVIEW: In another exciting game, Victor beat Thomas with three goals in the last quarter to remain undefeated with the 9-6 victory at home. Pittsford beat Irondequoit 8-6 with four unanswered goals in the fourth quarter. Four extra goals in the first quarter gave HF-L the win over Rush-Henrietta.Pittsford at post time. [BOX SCORE]

Wednesday: DAY IN REVIEW: The only game that was close today was the one the everyone was talking about all season, as two undefeated teams met and only one would continue with the possibility of a perfect season. In the end, Webster Thomas scored four goals in the final quarter to score a 7-5 victory over Canandaigua.

There were forty-nine games played last week and although there were some exciting ones there continued to be a large number of mismatches. With travel concerns this season there are only eight out of section games scheduled and seven have been played. Section Five has won six.

# 3101  Victor over Fairport, Brighton over Schroeder

Wednesday: DAY IN REVIEW: Senior faceoff specialist Logan Callahan gave Victor a big advantage in ball time as he won 14/18 draws to help the Blue Devils beat Fairport 10-6 this afternoon. Callahan, who in three games this season has won 58/66 (88%) faceoffs also scored 2g-1a. The game started even, with three ties before Victor took a lead at 4-3 and did not let go. Senior M/A Cal Lambert led the scoring for the Blue Devils with 3g-2a. Senior midfielder Alex Seiler added 2g-1 and five other players scored one goal. Fairport sophomore A/M Jackson Monte led in scoring for the Red Raiders with 2g-1a. Fairport (2-2) will play Penfield on Friday while Victor (3-0) is playing Irondequoit. # 3097  Penfield Wins in Overtime

Monday: DAY IN REVIEW: It took overtime for Penfield to defeat The Panthers 12-11 tonight on the road. With Pittsford up 11-7 at the top of the fourth quarter but starting with 5:08 left in the game, Penfield scored four unanswered goals to tie the game at 11-11 with 2:11 left. With 2:04 left in overtime, senior attackman Sam Cummings scored the game-winner with an assist from Jake Fox. Cummings ended the game with 4g and senior midfielder Chris Smith added 3g-2a. John Richiusa gave the Patriots lots of ball time as he won 23/27 faceoffs. Pittsford senior attackman Harrison Cross led scoring with 2g-2a and junior James Cook added 3g for the Panthers (2-2) who will play R-H on Wednesday. Penfield bumps to 4-0 and will play Canandaigua on Wednesday.[BOX SCORE]

Victor was ready in 2020 to seek it's seventh straight Section V championship and had the players to help make that happen, but gone are Camden Hay (Albany), Shea Newell (Mercyhurst), Joey Pezzimenti (Albany), Alec Russell (Le Moyne), Regan Endres (Albany), Cameron Gormain (St. Bonaventure), and Ethan Roberts (Seton Hill) who are all playing in college now along twenty-one other Victor alumni.

Under Armour recently announced their rosters for the 13th Annual All-American game in July. Named to the "South team" were defenseman Tanner Hay and goalie Chayse Ierlan, both from Victor.
