The Livonia-Avon Lakers have a new Head Coach, just days before the start of 2020 season and he has deep ties to the program. John Sciera started the Livonia Bulldogs team in 2002 and was the Head Coach there through the 2007 season before the job went to Brett Wood in 2008. His record after six seasons was 61-53.

Geneva surprised many with their exciting 9-7 win over last year's Class B Champion, Irondequoit in a game played at Hobart College in Geneva today. The Eagles scored first and after Geneva came back for the tie Irondequoit went up again 2-1.

There were 16 games in the Section today. Several were close and a number were not. Pittsford beat a determined McQuaid Jesuit 7-6. Waterloo beat Wayne 3-1.

There were two games played on Monday. Livonia scored ten goal sin the first quarter on their way to an 18-2 victory over Bloomfield-Honeoye. Albie DiPasquale scored the game winner on an assist from Corey Parke in overtime as Pittsford defeated Clarence (Section VI) 12-11.

After three weeks of warm weather it was a little disheartening to have drizzle and cooler weather for the start of the game season. Three of the four games played in the section today were hosted at Aquinas. The first game of the season was Haverling-Haverling vs Mynderse Academy.

The All Star list is out recognizing the Finger Lakes League players for the 2011 season.

The 2011 Section Five Tournaments are now underway with twelve out bracket games played today. There were two upsets in the seeding as, in Class A, #9 Greece Thunder beat #8 Greece Lightning 11-9. In Class C, #9 Mynderse won a 15-13 victory over #8 Marcus Whitman.

It's hard to imagine in May that the headline would be that we finally had a nice day for lacrosse, but given the rain and stormy days this season, today's warm and generally sunny weather was more than a pleasure.

There were sixteen games played in the Section today and a number of very exciting ones including a 7-6 win for Fairport over Penfield with no time left on the clock. Haverling took Aquinas in double overtime and Marcus Whitman beat Mynderse in the first overtime period.

Marcus Whitman was an 18-7 winner over Mynderse, Bishop Kearney took a 12-8 victory from Batavia and Bloomfield-Honeoye won an 8-5 game against visiting Midlakes. Clarence of Section 6 held on to their undefeated season with a 9-5 win over Aquinas.

There were three afternoon games in the Section on Friday. Geneva beat Mynderse 18-2. Pal-Mac was a 17-6 winner over Marcus Whitman and Newark beat visiting Waterloo 8-4.

Livonia was a 12-5 winner over Gananda and Mynderse beat Midlakes 16-3 in evening games tonight.

It was a long awaited match up and at the last moment, moved from Pittsford Mendon to St. John Fisher College, where the stands were nearly full. The Panthers scored five unanswered goals in the fourth quarter for secure a 9-4 win over Fairport.

It was a tough day for several teams that played out-of-section games today as Penn Yan lost a close one to Clarence, Hamburg beat Thomas and Aquinas lost a close one to Timon.

At the start of a week that will see games every day, four games were played in the Section today. Honeoye Falls-Lima had a rare shutout in their win over Batavia. Pal-Mac beat Gananda, Marcus Whitman beat Midlakes and Waterloo edged out Mynderse 12-10 in a night game.

here were thirteen games today in Section Five and a large number of games were lop-sided. Winners by big margin included Fairport, Pittsford, Penfield, Penn Yan, Geneva and Pal-Mac.

Perhaps the most exciting game of the day was at Irondequoit tonight, where Pittsford kept their winning streak alive with a 13-11 win over the Eagles.

There were three Finger Lakes games played this afternoon. Mynderse was a 16-9 winner over the Pride, Newark beat Midlakes 7-3 and Geneva was a 6-4 winner over Pal-Mac.

Pittsford traveled to Orchard Park (Section Six, Buffalo) where the Panthers and the Quakers played great defense, took home a 4-2 victory. Brockport overcame their deficit and scored the winning goal, late in the game as the Blue Devils beat ER 10-9.

Most of the games ended with run-away scores including Victor's 18-0 shutout over Batavia and Spencerport's 10-1 win over the Lightning. Penfield, Pittsford, Irondequoit, Canandaigua, Bright and Aquinas were all winners on Tuesday.

The 2010 season ended on June 12th in warm weather as Fairport ended Section Five play in the NYS championship game. The first day of the 2011 was played in freezing temperatures between 21 and 32 degrees, but in generally clear and sunny skies.

After making it to the Class C finals last season against Penn Yan, Livonia looks to go one better this season and take the tournament. Coach Brett Wood is looking to a returning team with strong offensive potential and great senior leadership to achieve those goals.

Mynderse finished fourth in Finger Lakes Division II with a 3-5 record (4-12 overall). The Blue Devils lost to Pal-Mac in the first round and finished Sectionals as seeded.

There were ten out bracket games played in the Section today and only one team that beat a higher seeded team. In the Class A bracket, Hilton (#9) beat Gates Chili (#8) and will play Fairport. Churchville-Chili be the Lightning and moves on to Pittsford.

Most teams in Section Five finished their regular season games today, playing fourteen game in total. There are only four games left to be played before Tournament seeding on Sunday.

James Sturnick scored in overtime to give McQuaid Jesuit an 8-7 victory at Pittsford. Penfield took a won goal, 9-8 win from Schroeder and Waterloo won a 13-12 game from Mynderse. The rest of the fifteen games in the Section were not so close.

The ' Lil Irish came back, late in the fourth quarter to force overtime where they defeated Haverling-Haverling in overtime this afternoon at Aquinas. Penfield held off a fired-up Rush-Henrietta and won their game 13-12 in regulation.

Livonia avenged a loss earlier in the season as they beat McQuaid Jesuit today 9-5 at home. In the only other game in Section Five today, Midlakes beat Bloomfield-Honeoye 12-6.

After 30 straight wins, Canandaigua lost in a close game to Webster Thomas, 11-10 this afternoon. The Titans overcame a 5-4 halftime score with a strong third quarter and determination in the last quarter with the winning goal by TJ Hauck with twenty-five second left the regulation.

There were fifteen games played today in Section Five, a couple of close ones but mostly mismatches. Eastridge won their first game of the season using double overtime to defeat the Thunder 11-10. East Rochester beat Newark 8-7. All the other games were won by six goals.

Penn Yan, currently ranked first in the SportsFive Class C list and Aquinas, currently ranked second played tonight at Aquinas with the Mustangs winning 14-6. Of the other thirteen games played today all were won by five or more and seven were won by ten or more.

A strong fourth quarter gave McQuaid Jesuit an 8-7 win over Penn Yan. James Sturnick dodged across the middle for the winning goal. In other action HFL defeated Churchville-Chili 9-8, Spencerport beat the Thunder 9-7, Pal-Mac won a 9-8 game with Midlakes.

Brighton continued their unbeaten streak (7-0) with a 13-11 win over visiting Hilton. Pittsford scored the first two goals and went on to beat Aquinas 11-7. Livonia beat visiting Rush-Henrietta in a high scoring game, 17-14. Other winners today included Geneva, HFL, and McQuaid Jesuit.

Exactly one year ago, the Trojan of Corning East beat Canandaigua, but that was the last game the Braves lost all season and their winning streak, now at 26 has been preserved with their 11-9 win at Evans Field. Penn Yan won a close one with Schroeder (6-5) and Aquinas beat Irondequoit 8-4.

Sixteen games but three went to double overtime. HF-L beat Schroeder 8-7, Pittsford beat Thomas 13-12 and McQuaid Jesuit beat Livonia 7-6, each in the second overtime period.

There were fourteen games in the section today and more were played under dark or rainy conditions. Webster Schroeder won an 8-6 victory over Churchville-Chili while Fairport stunned Irondequoit (13-4) and Canandaigua beat Penfield (19-6).

The newly renamed "Pride" from Bloomfield-Honeoye was an 8-7 winner over traveling Geneva and Churchville-Chili defeated Penfield (13-12), also in overtime.

With nine lead changes during the game, Irondequoit ended up the 12-11 winner over host Penfield. Nick Doktor (5g-2a) scored three of his goals in the third quarter to give the Eagles a two goal lead going into the last quarter.

On day number two of the 2010 season, there were six games played, and four of them were with out-of-section teams. Pal-Mac used the second half to beat East Rochester 7-3 and McQuaid Jesuit also came back with a strong second half effort as they defeated host Corning West 14-10.

For many years the focus of lacrosse at the end of the year would be mostly about the Class A teams. This year that changes, as there will be first-rate games in all three classes when it becomes tournament time.

Webster Schroeder beat visiting Amherst of Section 6 (Buffalo), 9-3 in an early afternoon game in Webster. Amherst (10-3) is currently ranked 9th on the NYS Class B poll. Midlakes won their game with Pal-Mac.

Canandaigua beat Penn Yan 12-11, Aquinas beat Livonia 9-8 and Rush-Henrietta beat Churchville-Chili 9-8 and each game was won in overtime. The others winning games today were Penfield, Geneva, Thunder, Batavia, Thomas, Irondequoit, Schroeder, Brockport, Mynderse, Hilton, Bloomfield-Honeoye, McQuaid Jesuit and Brighton.

Aquinas won a GRALL game against Haverling (13-10) and Mynderse beat Marcus Whitman 13-4 in Finger Lakes D-2 play today.

Batavia had a big night, winning their game over Spencerport 10-5. Hilton was a 9-4 winner over Pittsford and Brockport was an 8-6 winner over Brighton. Other winners included Greece Thunder, Penn Yan, Pal-Mac, McQuaid Jesuit, Eastridge, Geneva, Bloomfield-Honeoye and Livonia who edged out Haverling 7-6.

It took nearly three hours to play the game, but in the fourth overtime period, Newark beat Waterloo 12-11. Livonia was a 12-9 winner over Midlakes, Schroeder beat Rush-Henrietta 12-3 and Churchville-Chili was a 16-9 victor over Aquinas.

It was Penfield over Gates Chili (12-6), Irondequoit over Aquinas (10-8) and Thomas over McQuaid Jesuit (14-4). Other winners were Penn Yan, Mynderse over Waterloo in OT, Pal-Mac and Spencerport.

It was a busy night for SportsFive as there were 16 games held under mostly rainy skies today in Section Five. Fairport was able to beat Irondequoit 10-6 at home.

Brighton, Section V's last undefeated team, fell to a stoked up team from McQuaid Jesuit who won 9-6. Fairport defeated the strong Section III teams from Jamesville-DeWitt and Penfield beat West Seneca East (Section VI).

Ithaca (Section IV) used overtime to defeat Irondequoit 7-6 this afternoon. Other close games included Penfield 8-7 over Hilton, Pal-Mac 6-5 over Midlakes, Pittsford 8-6 over McQuaid Jesuit and Gates Chili 6-4 over Spencerport. Other winners included Aquinas, Mynderse, Penn Yan and Canandaigua.

Canandaigua beat Marcus Whitman 20-2, Rush-Henrietta beat Williamsville East on Section VI (10-6) and Pal-Mac beat Mynderse 16-6 in games played on Monday.

Livonia ended their league season third in GRALL with a 4-3 record (11-7 overall). Seeded second in the Class C tournament the Bulldogs lost to Penn Yan in the Section Five finals and finished as seeded.

Face offs were a key part of a number of games tonight with Thomas players combining for 12/18, Canandaigua's Marshall Johnson winning 20/20 in their 15-5 win over Penn Yan, Max Brauer winning 15/22 face offs for Brighton in their 19-2 win over the Lightning.

Although a number of games resulted in blowouts today, two were settled in overtime and two others were very close. Churchville-Chili was a 9-8 ot winner against Gates Chili, and Aquinas was a 10-9 ot winner against McQuaid Jesuit in GRALL Play.

There were six games games on Tuesday. Brighton, who did not win a game in 2008, is now 2-0 after their 9-5 win over visiting Eastridge. Marcus Whitman, playing their first Varsity game in school history, was leading 6-2 before the Greece Lightning came back and won 8-6.

There were eleven games on an unusually beautiful March game day. Pittsford won a 6-5 game against Churchville-Chili, and Irondequoit won an 11-6 victory over Penfield, but the rest of the games were lopsided victories and six went into running time.

Fans who chose to go to Aquinas tonight to see the Class A semi finals were treated to two of the best games of the season. Canandaigua held on to their undefeated season by one goal as the defeated a fired up Thomas team.

Penfield (#3) won a squeaker in overtime and advances to the semi finals after a 6-5 win over Schroeder (#6). Thomas(#5) beat McQuaid Jesuit (#4) 14-9) while Canandaigua(#1) remains undefeated.

With only five games left in the regular season, three were played today. Livonia finished their season with a 16-5 win over Pal-Mac, Spencerport finished with a 9-5 win over Batavia and The Greece Lightning lost to Corning West 18-4 in Friday action.

On the last Tuesday of the regular season there were 13 winners including Churchville, Brockport, Thomas, Irondequoit, Gates Chili, Hilton, Penfield, Schroeder, Mynderse, Geneva, Penn Yan, Haverling and Batavia.

Both Canandaigua won their games today to remain undefeated. Canandaigua beat previously undefeated Hamburg (Section 6) 17-9 in a night game at CA, while Penfield beat Fairport 10-2 earlier in the day.

McQuaid Jesuit won the GRALL Championship tonight in a close win over Aquinas and Canandaigua and Penfield both remained undefeated after action today.

Thomas was an 8-7 winner over Fairport, Geneva was a 9-8 winner over HFL and McQuaid Jesuit was an 9-8 overtime winner over Livonia. Other winners on Tuesday include Victor, Churchville-Chili, Irondequoit, Canandaigua, Aquinas, Pal-Mac, Bloomfield-Honeoye and Hamilton (over Mynderse).

Most games were predictable but there were a few unexpected scores as thirteen games were played on Thursday. Greece Athena/Odyssey beat Brighton 5-4, Geneva beat Penn Yan 8-6, Newark took Midlakes 9-7 and HFL was the winner over Rush-Henrietta 14-12.

Fairport avenged their loss to Canandaigua earlier in the week with a 10-7 win over Penn Yan, Geneva made a dramatic statement in Class B as they defeated Aquinas 14-5 while Gates Chili picked up a 10-6 win over Victor and Hilton beat Spencerport 15-7. Rush-Henrietta was a 18-9 winner over visiting Livonia.

Last year at this time we stated that there was some serious talent among the Class A teams.

On a rare and glorious first day of practice, Section Five saw 65 degrees and a full sun on March 3rd. It won' t last long, as there is a storm warning on tap in the next few days.

Livonia took the game into overtime to defeat Aquinas 5-4. The Bulldogs got their sixth win in the past ten years over the Little Irish (20 wins). Holding Aquinas to only four goals is the strongest defensive performance in the records. Livonia used two, two-goal runs to secure the win. One was in the first and one was in the third. The Little Irish scored three goals in the second quarter. Both teams were held scoreless in the fourth quarter.
