Tuesday: Batavia, Hilton, Brockport among Winners Tonight
Batavia had a big night, winning their game over Spencerport 10-5. Hilton was a 9-4 winner over Pittsford and Brockport was an 8-6 winner over Brighton. Other winners included Greece Thunder, Penn Yan, Pal-Mac, McQuaid Jesuit, Eastridge, Geneva, Bloomfield-Honeoye and Livonia who edged out Haverling 7-6.
-- Coming into the game, both teams recognized the significance of this game, and how close it might be. Livonia scored the last two goals of the game to win 7-6 over GRALL opponent Haverling. Haverling defeated Livonia 8-6 only nine days ago and the Bulldogs were ready for a rematch.
Coach Brett Wood of Livonia writes, "This was a battle of two rivals and we knew coming in that Haverling would be one of the toughest games all year." Haverling Coach Ken DiDomineck writes, "It was an excited game if you were a lacrosse fan. It was back and forth all night."
Haverling came out strong with the first two goals of the game, relying on the Reed brothers for both goals. The opening goal was scored by Tyler Reed with an assist from Cole Beebe. The second goal, an unassisted goal, was scored by Zach Reed. The Rams led 2-0 halfway through the first quarter. Mike Donals and Chris Bausch hooked up for the first Livonia goal at 2:36. The Rams led 2-1 after the first quarter.
In the second quarter the team inverted the scoring with Livonia adding two and Haverling adding one. Livonia's Jeff Wester scored the first goal unassisted. Wester finished with 2g-2a for the Bulldogs. Tyler Reed scored the second of his three goals, unassisted, at 9:56 to retake the one goal lead. However, with 1:22 remaining, Wester and Bausch came together for the tying goal to make the score 3-3 going into halftime.
In the third quarter Livonia kept up the pressure, scoring two goals and taking their first lead of the game but no before the Rams scored with Nick Rossi assisting Brian Gable at 8:13. The Bulldogs scored the next two goals with Donals scoring (unassisted) at 6:43 and Bausch scoring (assisted by Wester) at 1:16. Going into the final quarter the Bulldogs were holding onto a one goal lead, 6-5.
Haverling scored the first goal of the final quarter with the Reed boys hooking up (Zach assisted Tyler) at 10:04. The score was tied at 8:50 when Livonia found themselves two men up for two minutes. Haverling goalie, Chris Wolfer stepped up and made save after save, holding the Bulldogs scoreless. Wolfer made six saves in the fourth quarter to keep the Rams in the game and he finished with 12 saves overall (63%). With 3:52 remaining the Rams scored the go ahead goal during a man-up situation.
That was, however, the final Rams goal, and Livonia still had two more coming. With 2:59 remaining in the game, Bausch found Wyatt Struble for the goal to tie the game once again. Livonia took possession at the face-off and were able to get the leading goal at 1:40 with Wester feeding Bausch. Haverling got another chance at possession however, a missed pass to the right goal line extended was missed with about 1:00 remaining in the game and Livonia regained possession and ran out the clock.
Scoring for Livonia were Wyatt Struble (1g), Mike Donals (2g), Chris Bausch (2g-3a) and Jeff Wester (2g-2a). Justin Becker had 8s/6ga for the Bulldogs (9-4).
Scoring for Haverling were Tyler Reed (3g), Zach Reed (1g-1a), Nick Rossi (1g-1a), Brian Gable (1g), Cole Beebe (1a) and Drew Wager (1a).
-- Brockport came out with their sixth win of the season while handing Brighton their third loss in Monroe County Division-3 play. The Blue Devils defeated the Barons 8-6 in a back and forth game.
Brighton outscored Brockport in the first quarter and attempted to hold off the Blue Devils' advances. The Blue Devils outscored the Barons 2-1 in the second, 1-0 in the third and 3-1 in the fourth quarters. Brighton started the game strong, scoring the first two goals of the game.
Less then two minutes into the game, senior midfielder Evan Davis scored with an assist from Steven Cregan. Davis continued his scoring with an unassisted goal 1:30 later to give Brighton the early 2-0 lead. Brockport's first goal came only 15 second later. Attackman Ryan Pratt scored an unassisted goal but CJ Wool scored his lone goal for the Barons at 7:02 to increase the Brighton lead back to two goals (with another assist from Cregan).
Long stick defenseman Will Glynn scored the next goal for the Blue Devils during a clearing situation to bring the game back within one goal. Senior attackman Mark Henrichs scored his first of two goals in the game at 4:13 (Davis assisted this goal for his third point in four Baron goals). Henrichs also scored his goal in transition play. Brighton led 4-2 after the first quarter and attempted to hold of the Blue Devils for the remainder of the game.
Brockport cut the lead back to one goal at 5:50 in the second quarter when attackman Trevor Hayward score (unassisted). Midfielder Jake Burns tied the game for the first time at 4-4 with his unassisted goal at 4:04 in the second quarter. With time closing the second quarter, Henrichs scored his second Barons goal, again with Davis assisting. Henrichs' second goal was very similar to the first quarter goal with Davis setting things in motion during a transition. At halftime the Blue Devils had cut the lead to one goal, with Brighton leading 5-4.
Brockport came out of halftime and played a strong aggressive defense against the Barons who had difficultly with the new pressure. The Barons defense also stepped up but the Blue Devils offense did manage to score one goal to once again tie the game, this time at 5-5. The goal was scored at 2:48 during a man-up situation. Midfielder Pat Stevens scored from the crease after an inside pass from attackman Matt Lester. Brockport controlled the ball for much of the second quarter not allowing Brighton to have many offensive possessions. The score was tied 5-5 after three quarters.
Brockport continued its offensive push, scoring the first goal of the fourth quarter. Midfielder Dylan Brown scored with a strong dodge from the top, giving Brockport their first lead of the game. Brockport increased their lead to two goals at 6:52 with Hayward scoring his second goal. Brockport kept up with their momentum and scored their eighth and final goal with 3:54 remaining, with Burns scoring an unassisted goal. Brighton added their final goal with 1:23 remaining when sophomore Mike Asselin scored unassisted. Brockport won the ensuing face-off and ran out the clock.
Brighton coach Mike Gottko comments: "Our kids are learning to play in tight, intense games which we hope will translate into better success in future games." Gottko continues, commenting on the Brockport team, "the defense played very well and forced us to rush things offensively. Our defense gave us a change to win the game going into the fourth quarter, allowing only one goal during the third quarter while playing close to ten minutes of defense."
In the cage, Brockport's Dylan White finished with a strong game at 16 saves (73%). Brighton's Kyle Hohmann finished with 8 saves for the Barons.

-- In a game that only saw two assist from either team, McQuaid Jesuit defeated HFL 9-5. The game was close in the first quarter with each team scoring two goals in each of the first two quarters, however, the Knights outscored the Cougars 5-1 in the second half and kept the Cougars scoreless for 26 minutes spanning three quarters.
The teams alternated goals in the first quarter with Nick Wolak scoring unassisted for the Knights at 9:35. The Cougars came back right away with Tommy O'Leary scoring his lone goal of the game only a minute and a half later. McQuaid Jesuit's John Jenkins scored for the Knights, followed by Clai Kuhn scoring for HFL. The score was tied 2-2 after the first quarter.
In the second quarter, McQuaid Jesuit scored two goals (at 9:44 and 5:42) with Jake Bailey and Wolak both scoring unassisted goals. The Knights could not keep up the momentum, as HFL scored two back to back goals themselves to keep the score tied at the end of the half. Kuhn added his second and Mickey Allan added his only goal of the game for the Cougars. The score was 4-4.
After halftime the Knights buckled down and basically won the game in the third quarter. The Knights scored three unanswered goals in the third quarter and five unanswered goals spanning the second half. The first two goals of the third quarter were also the only two assisted goals of the game with James Sturnick assisting Wolak and Wolak then assisting Alex Pautler. Wolak, Sturnick and Mike Crawford added the final unassisted goals for the Knights. With 0:15 remaining in the game, Eric Boike scored unassisted for the Cougars.
HFL Head Coach Todd Morgan writes, "We displayed great effort for four quarters, but our execution suffered during the third quarter. McQuaid Jesuit played an excellent hard fought game and made fewer mistakes tonight."
Scoring for McQuaid Jesuit were Alex Pautler (1g), Mike Crawford (1g), James Sturnick (1g-1a), Eric Wright (1g), Nick Wolak (3g-1a), John Jenkins (1g) and Jake Bailey (1g). Ethan Matteson had 8s/5ga for the Knights.
Scoring for HFL were Eric Boike had (1g), Clai Kuhn had (2g), Tommy O'Leary (1g) and Mickey Allan 1g. Jay Tallon recorded 10s/9ga for the Cougars.
-- The Penn Yan Mustangs improved their record to 10-1 this evening with a 15-1 victory over the visiting Waterloo Indians in a FL-1 match up. The Mustangs were dominant at face off with Ty Trombley recording 13/16 and Danny Guererri adding 3/3. Trombley also picked up 12 ground balls to lead the Mustangs. Ethan Kamholtz played 18 minutes in cage recording 1s/1ga. Cody Richardson played the remaining 30 minutes and went 3s/0ga.
The first half ended with Penn Yan up 14-1 and the second half saw the Mustangs take significant time off the running clock passing the ball while on offense. The Penn Yan defense successfully defended three Waterloo EMOs and was led by Scott Miller's 5 GBs.
Scoring for Penn Yan were Matt Osgood (4g-2a), Adam Trombley (5g-4a), Adam Stork (2a), Cole Castle (1g), Ty Trombley (1a), John Linnan (2g-3a), Jamil Modafarri (2g), Preston Maciejewski (1g), and Nate Nichols (2a).
Jordan Cook scored for Waterloo and Zach Ramirez had 10s/15ga for Waterloo.
-- Hilton came out to win versus Pittsford this afternoon 9-4. The Cadets relied heavily on goalie Ken Stiles for the win. Stiles, who finished with 15 saves (79%), made 8 saves in the fourth quarter to keep the Panthers at bay.
Scoring for Hilton were Mike Crumlish (2g-1a), David Smith (2g), Jimmy Gaffney (1g), Steve Bernston (2g-1a), Matt Fracassi (4a), Frank Turrie (1g) and Mike Meeks (1g).
Scoring for Pittsford were Thomas Rodenhouse (2g), Steven Troup (1g), James Purpura (1g), TJ Iuppa (1a), Alex Kober (1a) and Matt Gold (1a).Harry Goluses played in the first half recording 4s/6ga. Alex Howell had 3s/3ga for Pittsford (7-4).

-- Greece Thunder led the game from start to finish, defeating East Rochester 17-3. It was a team effort for Greece with ten different players making the scorebook and 16/17 goals were assisted.
Nate Wallenhorst scored the first goal of the game with a feed from midfielder Scotty Tam. Wallenhorst finished with a career high nine points. Attackman Phil Bond also had a strong night on the crease with 5g-4a. Matt Keogh scored his first ever Varsity goal. Two of the three goals scored by East Rochester were scored during man up opportunities. Tyler Gorgione and Gino Prestigiacomo combined for 14 wins at the face-off.
Scoring for the Thunder were Phil Bond (5g-4a), Nate Wallenhorst (6g-3a), Danny Vyverberg (1g-1a), Scotty Tam (2a), Gino Prestigiacomo (1g-2a), Eric Bodine (1a), Mason Rosso (1g), Matt Keogh (1g), Danny Conway (1a) and Derek Langdon (2g-2a). Steve Cole played 39 minutes and made 6s/2ga and Zack Rudgers played 9 minutes and had 0s/1ga for The Thunder.

-- Geneva defeated Newark 14-2 his afternoon. The Panthers held the Reds scoreless in the first half.
Scoring for Geneva were Will Brennan (5g), Frank Triana (4g), Billy Eddington (4a), Chris Tapscott (2g), Danny Pufnock (2g), Sam Rollo (1g), Pat Roll (1a), Zach Koczent (1a) and Jeff Springmeier (1a). Ross Dinan and Billy Craft split halves in the cage; Dinan finished with 2 saves in the first half and Craft finished without a save in the second half.
Scoring for Newark were RJ VanDeMortel (1g-1a) and Luke Hartman (1g). In the cage, Dominic Camblin finished the game with 21 saves and Nate Gardner added 1s/1ga for the Reds
-- Eastridge defeated Greece Arc/Oly 12-2 this afternoon. Eastridge won the first three quarters (3-0, 3-1, 5-0) and tied the fourth (1-1).
Scoring for Eastridge were Patrick Moynihan (4g), Trevor Horne (2g-4a), Riley Austin (2g-2a), Adam Sisson (2g-1a), Matt Doeller (1g) and Kevin Steward (1g). In the cage, Jake Czwilinski played the entire game and finished with 15 saves (88%).
Scoring for Greece Arc/Oly were Brandon Wood (1g), Anthony Spallone (1g), Kendrick Heintzelman (1a) and Dustin Lenz Emmi (1a). Keifer Phillips and Shane Trost both played in the cage for Greece; Phillips played the first three quarters and finished with 11 saves (50%) and Trost finished with 2 saves (66%).
-- It was a big day for Batavia as they finally played a home game after six games on the road. To make it even better their 10-5 win over Spencerport was their first win against the Rangers in five meetings. The win gave them three wins this year, matching last years record.
Batavia scored in the first 28 seconds when junior attackmen Joe Pedro scored his unassisted goal. Spencerport answered back with a goal by Sean DeMers to end the first quarter in a 1-1 tie. The game went back and fourth in the second quarter. Batavia's Senior Midfielder Joe Muoio added two goals and Spencerport's Kyle Mark added one in the second. The halftime score was 3-2 Batavia.
The third period was a total different story. Batavia outscored the Rangers 6 to 1, led by Joe Pedro's two unassisted goals, Will Mulcahy's (1g-1a) and a goal by Chad Luce. The third quarter ended with Batavia up 9-3. Spencerport added two goals in the fourth and Batavia midfielder Chip Chapman finished off scoring for the Blue Devils with an unassisted goal.
Scoring for Batavia were Joe Muoio (4g), Joe Pedro (3g), Will Mulcahy (1g-1a), Chip Chapman (1g), Chad Luce (1g) and Taylor Hubbard (1a). Theo Hill had 17s/5ga for the Blue Devils.
Scoring for Spencerport were Austin Hintz (2g-1a), Nick Fischer (1g-2a), Kyle Mark (1g) and Sean DeMers (1g). Rocky Gruttadauria had 7s/3ga in the first half and Josh Sweeney had 4s/7ga in the second half for the Rangers.

Bloomfield-Honeoye 13 - Marcus Whitman 9
-- Marcus Whitman led 5-4 at halftime, however Bloomfield-Honeoye outscored them in the second half 9-4 to win 13-9.
Each team played two goalies. Bloomfield Honeoye's Aaron Stevens and Jay Nichols split halves; Stevens finished with 5 saves (50%) and Nichols finished with 6 saves (60%). Marcus Whitman played Shawn Allen and Jurrell Freevillein the cage. Allan played 42 minutes and made 9 saves as well as scoring two goals on offense during man-up. Justusl Freeville played the remained of the game and did not face a shot.
Scoring for Bloomfield-Honeoye were Sean Beaney (3g-2a), Zach Hammond (3g-2a), Luke Blain (2g-4a), Luke Anderson (3g), Zach Stevens (1g) and Pat Marble (1g).
