East Rochester - Batavia | Brighton - Arc/Oly | Churchville-Chili - Brockport | Canandaigua - HFL | Eastridge - Ath/Ody | Fairport - Penfield | Pittsford - Gates Chili | Hilton - Schroeder | Thomas - Victor | Bloomfield-Honeoye - Geneva | Midlakes - Newark | Marcus Whitman - Mynderse | Pal-Mac - Waterloo | McQuaid Jesuit - Aquinas | Livonia - Haverling |
The book for Ath/Ody: Gino Prestigiacomo (3g-2a), Tyler Gorgione (3g-1a), Eric Hostetter (1g-1a), Anthony Merola (1g), Danny Vyverberg (1g), Matt Keough (1g), Andrew Prestigiacomo (1a), Goaltending: Zack Rudgers 9s/11ga (54 mins)
The book for Eastridge: Mike Mortillaro (4g), Chris Giruzzi (3g-1a), Ethan Printy (2g), Brandon Burley (1g), Kevin Stewart (1g), Luke Martello (1a), Matt Hess (1a), Goaltending: TJ Ennis 16s/10ga = 62% (54 mins).
-- The Lancers, with just fifteen players, won their first game of the season, in double overtime, as junior midfielder Mike Mortillaro (4g) scored with 1:50 left to give Eastridge an 11-10 victory over the Greece Thunder. The game, played at Athena High School, saw twenty-one penalties (fifteen against Ath/Ody and six against Eastridge), including two three minute, non-releasable stick penalties against the Thunder.
The Lancers scored the first three goals of the game starting with senior middie Kevin Stewart's man up, unassisted goal, scored from outside. Mortillaro scored the second from a clear and a pass from junior defenseman Matt Hess and Ethan Printy scored an unassisted goal on a drive, sweeping right and bouncing the ball into the cage from medium range. Just when it looked like a first quarter shutout, sophomore middie Gino Prestigiacomo (3g-2a) worked his way from top right to center and scored for the Thunder with 0:02 left in the quarter which ended with the Lancers up 3-1.
The Thunder received a three minute stick penalty to start the second quarter and five goals during the penalty. Eastridge took the first one, just 0:25 into the quarter sophomore Chris Giruzzi picked up a loose ball and popped in past Greece goalie, Zack Rudgers. On the face off, Prestigiacomo won his own face off and when straight to the goal, scoring seven seconds later. Twenty-four second later, Mortillaro took the feed from Giruzzi and bounced the ball into the net. After a couple of clears (both ways), junior middie scored the second man down goal for Ath/Ody when, after taking some time off the penalty clock, he cut from behind the goal and shots one step past goal line extended. The last goal of the penalty was another man down goal by the Thunder when Eric Hostetter caught a feed from Andrew Prestigiacomo and scored from the high crease. The Thunder had scored three man down goals and the Lancers had scored two man up goals in the three minutes.
Eastridge then settled down and scored the next three goals including two in man up. Mortillaro took the ball from Giruzzi at 8:08 and bounced the ball in while in man up. About one minute later, the Lancers scored on another man up opportunity as Ethan Printy scored on a broken clear and a ground ball effort. Brandon Burley scored his unassisted goal during a fast break when sophomore Luke Martello fed him the ball. His shot bounced off Rudgers' chest pad and slowly rolled into the net. Less than a minute later, the Thunder scored the last goal of the quarter when Hostetter passed to Gorgione from wing to center and he scored with an outside shot, ending the half with Eastridge up 8-5.
After the break, the Thunder scored three unanswered goals, staring just forty-five seconds into the quarter. Gorgione scored on a sidearm shot and a drive to the right. Senior Matt Keough took a pass from the top of the box from Gino Prestigiacomo and scored from the right wing in man up and senior attackman Danny Vyverberg took a clearing feed from Gorgione and bounced the ball past Eastridge goalie TJ Ennis with just 0:05 left in the third quarter.
With the teams tied at 8-8 at the start of the last quarter, the thunder was hit with another three minute stick penalty. To the credit of the man down unit, not goals were scored during the penalty as the Thunder controlled the ball for most of the time. Eastridge broke the tie with 7:17 left when Giruzzi dodged his man behind the cage, and with no slide, scored on the one-on-one with Rudgers. They held the lead for about four minutes until Gino Prestigiacomo made a crosse field feed to freshman attackman Anthony Merola who scored with an outside overhand with 3:21. The Thunder gained possession of the ball after the ensuing face off and Gino Prestigiacomo ran the ball straight to the goal to give the Thunder a short-lived lead at 3:03. Seventeen seconds later Giruzzi found himself unguarded behind the cage and sprinted to the corner where he put it in the goal to end the scoring in the regulation and both teams tied at 10-10.
During the first overtime period both teams had opportunities and both goalies made at least one save. The teams were still tied after the first four minute period. As usual, in overtime, volume is the name of the game and both teams took as many shots as they could. Mortillaro's shot at 1:50 in the second overtime period was the winner for the Lancers.
Both goalies made a number of creditable saves. Ennis ended the game with sixteen and Rudgers ended with nine. Senior defenseman Brandon Cheeseman intercepted quite a number of Lancer passes and also stopped a number of Lancer fast breaks. Gino Prestigiacomo won a large number of face offs and picked up fifteen ground balls with his five points (3g-2a).
Mike Mortillaro (4g) and Chris Giruzzi (3g-1a) led the offense for the Lancers who travel to Brighton on Thursday. The Thunder travels to East Rochester for a late game on Thursday.

Geneva 9 - Bloomfield-Honeoye 0
The book for Geneva: Andrew Ritter (1a), Patrick Roll (1g), Will Brennan (3g-2a), Sam Rollo (1g), Chris Pitifer (1g), Billy Eddington (3g), Goaltending: Ross Dinan 6s/0ga = 100% (48 mins)The book for Bloomfield-Honeoye: Goaltending: Jay Nichols 8s/9ga (48 mins).
-- Geneva handled the Pride, keeping them scoreless the entire game for a 9-0 win. Goalie Ross Dinan secured the shut-out with six saves. Leading the charge for the Panthers were junior attackmen Will Brennan (3g-2a) and Billy Eddington (3g). The Pride started the game strong and looked in control of the ball, however as the game progressed they slid downward, eventually resorting to illegal checks and getting multiple flags.
In the first quarter the Pride controlled the ball for nearly the entire quarter. Geneva added two goals in the first quarter. The first goal was a garbage goal with Brennan picking up the loose ball on the crease and finishing in the back of the net. The second goal was scored with an outside drive from the top left by Sam Rollo. The Pride, although unable to score, played nearly equal (if not better than) Geneva in the first quarter. They were patient, they controlled the ball and waited for opportunities as they kept the ball from the Panther offense. Although they were down by two goals they were still in the game.
In the second quarter, the Pride began to slip and the Panthers kept up the pressure. Geneva added two more goal within the first two minutes. Much like in the first quarter, the Panthers scored their first goal in an unsettled situation and the second goal with a more traditional drive. The first goal was scored during a fast-break with senior midfielder Zach Koczent picking up the ground ball at midfield and finding Brennan open down field. Brennan dodged the slide and finished into the back of the net. The second goal of the quarter was scored when Brennan drove from behind the cage and hit Patrick Roll, who was cutting ahead of him and was on the crease for the pass. The Panthers led 4-0 going into halftime.
In the third quarter the Pride began their fall. Geneva added two more goals, this time in the back-half of the quarter. Both Panther goals this quarter were in unsettled situations. The first was another loose ball at the crease with Chris Pitifer picking up the ball and finishing into the back of the net. The second goal was Eddington's first goal and was scored during a fast-break with a feed from Andrew Ritter. In the third quarter, Bloomfield-Honeoye was assessed four penalties (three personals). Although the Panthers could not convert, it was obvious to tell that the Pride was beginning to get frustrated that they could not get any points on the board. Overall the play of Dinan was just a portion of the reason why as the close defense played an equally important part in keeping the Pride off the scoreboard. The close defense held the Pride to only eighteen shots with only six on cage. Defensemen Schuyler Helmer, Mike Warner and Dan Pufnock were instrumental in the Panther win. Helmer finished the game with five one-on-one takes and seven ground balls, Warner finished with three takes and four ground balls and Pufnock finished with two takes and four ground balls.
In the fourth quarter, the Pride continued to lose focus. They added another four penalties in the quarter with Geneva only capitalizing on one goal. The first goal of the quarter was scored by Eddington and assisted by Brennan. The Panthers started the quarter with the ball after a hold-over penalty (their own penalty). Only 0:20 into the quarter, BH were given another penalty and the game went to 5-on-5 for 0:18. The Panthers patiently waited to be even and scored just 0:07 after being given the go-ahead by the coaching staff. The final two goals of the game were scored with more traditional drives. Eddington scored with a drive from behind and Brennan scored with a sweep from the top.
Overall, the Panthers demonstrated that they could be patient and wait for their opponents to make mistakes and then capitalize on them. Although they did poorly at man-up (1/6), they scored five of nine goals in unsettled situations. Conversely, the Pride got more and more frustrated as the game progressed and they could not find the back of the net. Leading the ground all charge for Bloomfield-Honeoye were Luke Blain (7), Luke Anderson (5) and Sean Beaney (4). In the cage for the Pride, Jay Nichols finished with eight saves.
