-- Aquinas used a solid performance from their defense and goalie to defeat Livonia 7-4. The Little Irish scored early and held a 4-1 lead at halftime. Although the Bulldogs fought back in the third quarter it was never enough to catch up.
Senior attackman Klay Heston finished the game with 3g-3a for the Little Irish. All the points for Aquinas came from attackman with Joe Snook (2g), Alex Bianchi (1g-1a) and Nick Weston (1g) rounding out the scoring. Weston, who also runs at midfield, was a transfer this season after playing his freshman year at HF-L. In the cage, junior Tom Mscichowski played the entire game and finished with 12 saves (75%).
For Livonia, Derek Bishopp, Cody Cisco, Wyatt Struble and Josh Wester each scored a single goal. Ethan Jamison, who also had a strong day between the pipes finished with 13 saves (65%). Coach Brett Wood writes of his Bulldogs, "We didn't take care of the ball and never quite got into a rhythm on the offensive end. Defensively I was proud of the way that our kids played and Jamison kept us in the game at times with some good stops."

-- Brighton took the game to running time against Eastridge, finishing 15-3. The Lancers played respectably in the first half, but the Baron's skill and depth were too much for them as Brighton finished with 12/15 goals assisted and 3/3 at extra-man.
Eastridge scored the first goal with 8:08 remaining in the first quarter when Mike Mortillaro ran straight at the goal and put the ball into the back of the net during an extra-man offense. Two of the three goals for the Lancers were scored man-up. Between both squads 5/8 man-up opportunities were converted on. Brighton answered with four goals of their own, with the first three each assisted by Kurt Minges who finished the game with 2g-5a. The first two goals (and the fourth assist) were scored by Brackett Bourne (6g-1a). The latter two goals were scored by CJ Wool (3-2). Eastridge added another after Chris Giruzzi scored on face-off fast-break. The final goal of the quarter was scored by Bourne again, this time after picking up a loose ball on the crease. Eastridge played well in the first quarter, picking up a number of loose balls and clearing the ball well overall. Although they have a small roster, Eastridge looks much stronger this year than last.
Eastridge scored the first goal of the second quarter to take the score to 5-3 with another man-up goal. Ethan Printy scored (assisted by Anthony Coffaro) with 4:44 remaining. Although the Lancers were playing well in the beginning, Brighton opened up their scoring adding the final 10 goals and of the game forcing running time. The Barons seemed to have trouble early on (multiple penalties, trouble with ground balls and clearing). However, once they worked out the kinks, they looked like the well oiled team that returned nearly their entire starting line from last season. In the second quarter, Brighton had scoring from Minges, Casey Koop, Wool and Bourne.
Brighton's defense stepped up the second half, and allowed Eastridge only three shots in 24 minutes (two missed the cage and the third hit goalie Jordan Carey in the stick). In the third quarter, Bourne added two and Minges and Wool added one each. In the fourth quarter, Bourne, Haag, Koop and Joshua Hunt each added one goal.
Overall, Brighton showed a lot of skill and potential. Of note was long-stick midfielder Dan Pierce (Nazareth). Pierce was all over the field and finished with a team leading ten ground balls. He was a leader on and off the field, constantly helping his teammates with his personal play, as well as adding guidance on the sidelines. With his experience and leadership he will be a strong asset to the Barons this season.
At the face-off draw, Brighton's Max Brauer finished with 14/16 and three ground balls. He was impressive, guiding the ball to his back-side wing man. A number of times he placed the ball in perfect position for only his teammate to pick up the ground ball. In the cage, Carey finished with one save. For Eastridge, Printy and defenseman George Bauer both finished with team leading three ground balls. Eastridge goalie TJ Ennis had a stand-out day between the pipes finishing with 14 saves (48%) against the high powered shooting of Brighton. There were a number of point blank shots where Ennis was able to make the save.
Next up for Brighton, Brockport, on Thursday. The Lancers play Gananda, also on Thursday.
