Tuesday: The Pride and Churchville are OT Winners
The newly renamed "Pride" from Bloomfield-Honeoye was an 8-7 winner over traveling Geneva and Churchville-Chili defeated Penfield (13-12), also in overtime. There were fourteen other games in the Section of which many were mismatches. One that was not, however was the Thunder (Ath/Ody) who won a close 8-7 game against East Rochester.

Churchville-Chili 13 - Penfield 12
-- The Saints held off a steady scoring Patriots team to win 13-12 in overtime. Zach Yehl scored with 3:28 remaining in overtime with an unassisted goal to give Churchville-Chili the win. The Saints capitalized on a two minute period of back-to-back unsportsmanlike conduct penalties against Penfield, scoring three goals in that span.The entire game was close, with neither team holding more than a three goal lead. Churchville-Chili scored first with Ryan Yunker going to the cage (unassisted) just two minutes into play. Churchville-Chili was hurt early in the game with two 30 second holding penalties both of which resulted in Penfield man up goals. The first came man up goal was with Tucker Nelson assisting Dan O`Brien. Nelson led all scoring in the game with 1g-9a. Churchville-Chili scored two goals in a row to take the first two goal lead of the game. Trevor Hodgins scored the first when defenseman Dan Fingland brought the ball all the way up to the offense and found Hodgins near the crease. Yehl scored his first goal shortly thereafter with a dodge from the top. The Saints led 3-1 halfway through the first quarter. Penfield got their second man-up goal with 2:09 remaining when Nelson found Matt Condon open. Nelson finished up the quarter with his only goal of the game during a fast-break with 0:24 remaining in the quarter. The game was tied at 3-3 going into the second.
Churchville-Chili started the scoring again in the second when Yehl assisted Nick Gray just 1:18 into the quarter. Penfield kept up their slow and steady pace, scoring the next three goals over four minutes. Alex Miles scored his first goal of the game when Condon fed the ball to him from behind the cage. Will Schoeneck scored the next two goals for Penfield. The first was scored in an unsettled situation after Churchville-Chili's goalie, Jack Corcoran, made a save and the ball got loose on the crease. The second was scored on a drive from behind the cage. The Patriots took their first two goal lead of the game half way through the second quarter. Churchville-Chili fought back with one unassisted goal from Yunker and another with Hodgins assisting Jon Hemink during an extra-man situation with only 0:20 remaining in the quarter. The score remained tied after two quarters 6-6.
Coming out of halftime it looked like Penfield was going to make a run and keep the lead. The Patriots scored the first three goals of the quarter to take the only three goal lead of the contest. Nelson assisted on all three goals. The first and third were scored by Miles and the second was scored by Condon. The third goal was scored only 0:08 after the second, on a face-off fast-break. Patriot freshman Connor Russell was stellar at the face-off, winning 70% of the draws (19/27) and picking up his own ground ball 10/15 times. The Saints scored the next goal with Hodgins assisting Hemink during a man-up attempt for the Saints. The defining point of the quarter, if not the game, came when Miles was given an unsportsmanlike conduct violation at the far end of the field with 3:47 remaining in the third quarter. On the way back to the box, he was assessed a second unsportsmanlike conduct violation which gave the Saints two minutes of non-releasable man-up.
Although at this point the Saints were still man-down from their own penalty 19 second earlier. The first 41 seconds of the penalty were to be played 5 on 5. The saints, however, scored just twenty seconds into the non-releasable penalty. They got the ball back and scored two more goals before the penalty was released, taking the Saints from being down two goals to leading by one. Yunker scored (unassisted) and Taylor Kolmer scored with an assist from Kevin Widzinski. The third quarter ended with the Saints holding on to a one goal game.
When the fourth quarter started, Miles scored the opening goal to tie the game back up for Penfield. With the scored tied at 10-10 the Saints went to work scoring two quick goals. Yehl (from Hodgins) and Yunker (unassisted) put Churchville-Chili up by two with 6:03 remaining in regulation time. O`Brien scored for the Patriots with an outside shot (assisted by Nelson). The final tying goal came at 0:35 with Miles scoring (assisted by Nelson). Russell won the face-off for the Patriots with O`Brien picking up the ground ball and running towards the cage. Corcoran came up with a big save to end regulation tied at 12-12.
Overtime started with Russell winning the face-off and picking up his own ground ball. He sent the ball up the field to Nelson who shot on cage. Corcoran came up with another big save and the clear started. Fingland was given the ball and after clearing it up field Yehl ended up with the ball driving from the top of the restraining area down the right side. Yehl fired the shot top shelf to win the game for Churchville-Chili.
In the cage, Corcoran finished with 10 saves for the Saints. Penfield's Jamie Solomon played the entire game and finished with 8 saves. Overall, Churchville-Chili was much more patient with their shots; 46% of Churchville-Chili's shots resulted in goals while only 38% of Penfield's shots were goals. Defenseman Nick Bruno (6), defenseman Slavic Hurley (4) and midfielder Taylor Kolmer (4) led in ground balls for the Saints. Russell (11), defensemen Mike Catanzaro (4) and Trevor Girouard (4) led for Penfield. Fingland also had three one-on-one takes for the Saints.

-- Fairport easily defeated Victor 13-3 this afternoon. The Red Raiders scored eleven unanswered goals in the first half and led in almost all categories with eight players making the scorebook and 25 players having at least one statistic.
Fairport scored six goals in first quarter with Martin Manilla scoring three goals and Brendan Saylor adding two more; Chris Button scored the final goal of the quarter. James Manilla and Saylor each had one assist in the first quarter. In the second quarter, five different Red Raiders scored; goals came from Button, Derek DeJoe, J. Manilla, Stephen Danylyshyn and Tim Modesti. Chris Button assisted four out of five goals with Chris Benza assisting the final goal of the quarter. Fairport led 11-0 at halftime.
In the third quarter, Victor scored the only goal with John Maloney assisting Trevor O'Shea. The fourth quarter had each team scoring two goals. Pat Collins and Brian Gilbert scored for Victor and Benza and Saylor scored for Fairport.
Both teams spit goalies. Fairport split at the half with Blaze Riorden playing the first half and Kyle Bowerman playing the second half. Riorden finished with a shutout and six saves; Bowerman finished with 11 saves at 77%. Steve Basile played the majority of the game for Victor with 13 saves and 11 goals against. John Phillips finished the final four minutes for Victor and allowed two goals.
Kyle Hall (2/3), Jerry Warner (9/14) and Modesti (0/2) combined for the face-offs for Fairport. Collin O'Shea (7/16) and Dale Mattice (1/3) were at the draw for Victor. Nick Waseleski led in ground balls for Victor with seven, C. O'Shea (4) and defenseman Dan Declerk (4) also contributed. James Cunningham (4) and Andrew Hays (4) led in ground balls for the Red Raiders.

-- In what has become a perennial battle, the two Webster High Schools faced off tonight with Webster Thomas defeating Webster Schroeder 13-7. The Titans won the first three quarters and tied in the fourth quarter.
Thomas started off the scoring with Kenny Tomeno's two goals for the Titans (the second assisted by Brad Hutton). Schroeder started their scoring with a goal from Tyler Mason assisted by Cody Consul. JT Hauck and Jack Hinderland rounded out the scoring in the first quarter for Thomas. Thomas led 4-1 after the first quarter. The Titans continued to keep up the pressure in the second quarter scoring three more goals; Kyle Rothfuss, JT Hauck and Tomeno. Schroeder's Joe Nicodemi scored the lone goal for the Warriors in the second quarter. Thomas led 7-2 after two quarters.
The Warriors came out of halftime a entirely different team; Schroeder played even with Thomas, but with the Titans lead in first half, they held on to it. The Warriors scored first with an unassisted goal by Alex Powell. Hinderland quickly stuck back for the Titans scoring two of his four goals for the game. Powell added his second goal for the Warriors followed by another Hinderland goal for Thomas. The Titans held a six goal lead after three quarters.
The final quarter was the only quarter that the Titans did not take as each team scored three goals. Schroeder's Pete Noto led at face-off with 9/15 (60%), Mike Blood (4/5) also did well at the draw. Schroeder's Noto (4), goalie Scott Tota (3), senior defensemen Tommy Roach (3), Ryan Martin (3) and Blood (3) led in ground balls. Thomas looked to goalie Don Grace for four ground balls and Troy Crevier, Kenny Tomeno, Dan Thomas and Hinderland for two ground balls each.
In the cage, Thomas' Grace finished with 11 saves. Senior Scott Tota and junior Nick Russo split time in the cage for Schroeder. Tota finished with 7 saves and 12 goals against, while Russo played the final four minutes and made one save.

-- Pittsford dominated in most stats in their 14-2 Monroe County crossover victory over visiting Brockport. Leading 48-18 in ground ball production, 48-13 in shots and 12/18 face-offs, the Panther scoring was led by sophomore attackman, Jack Lauroesch (3g-3a). Nine other Pittsford players made the offensive book and the bench was unloaded in the second half.
Junior goalie, Paul Duthoy had 12 saves (8ga=60%) for Brockport.
McQuaid Jesuit - FM Game Suspended
-- The McQuaid Jesuit game at Fayetteville-Manlius was stopped at halftime due to fog with the score 6-4 for the Hornets. James Sturnick (2g-1a) led the first half goal production and Pat Sheridan had 8ga for the Knights. The Athletic Directors will try to arrange a date for the rest of the game.
-- Honeoye Falls-Lima capitalized on a strong first half on their way to a 13-10 win over Rush-Henrietta. The Cougars took a 9-5 lead into halftime and held off the advances of RH to control the remainder of the game.
HF-L started off the scoring with two quick unassisted goals by Clai Kuhn and Mickey Allan. RH's first goal was scored by Jake Alvarez with an assist from Joe Perkins. Alvarez led in scoring for RH with 3g-2a and Perkins had 2g-3a. The final goal of the first quarter was scored by Jason Breau (assisted by Drew Tallon). The Cougars led 3-1 after the first quarter.
Breau opened up the scoring just 0:12 into the second quarter (assisted by Jake Lee). RH added their second goal of the game with Jake Alvarez assisting Austin Freudenvoll. HFL came back and scored two goals in less than 20 seconds. The first came during man-up with Kuhn scoring (assisted by Tommy O'Leary) and the second came with an unassisted goal by Nick Weston. Chris Aycock scored unassisted one minute later during another man-up opportunity, this time for RH. HFL scored another three goals before the end of the second quarter. Breau, Allan and Jeff Roth added goals for the Cougars. With 5:01 remaining in the second quarter the Cougars led 9-3. The Royal Comets added two more goals before the end of the half. Joe Perkins added both goals with Aycock having both assists. The half ended with the score 9-5 in favor or HF-L.
In the second half, the game was much closer with RH outscoring HF-L 5-4. Teams alternated goals in the third quarter. Aycock scored the opening goal during man-up at 10:05 with an assist from Torry Whitcher. Eric Boike scored the first of his two goals during the third quarter with an assist from Kuhn. Alvarez scored his second goal of the game with another assist from Perkins. Boike second goal of the quarter was unassisted. After three quarters HF-L maintained their 4 goal lead at 11-7.
In the fourth quarter three goals were scored in the first two minutes. Breau and Weston hooked up for HF-L at 10:41. RH added two more at 10:19 and 10:08 with goals from Chauncey Scissum and Alvarez. At 4:44, Kuhn added the final goal for HF-L and with only 0:15 remaining in the game Aycock added the final Royal Comet goal. In the cage, Jay Tallon finished with 8 saves for HF-L. Corey Spuck played the first 19 minutes recording 3 saves with Mark Wagner finishing the game with 5 saves.
At the face-off draw both teams had one player take the majority of the face-offs. Jordan Gushue won 18/26 (69%) for HF-L with Brad Sauln finishing 8/24 for RH. Gushue led ground balls for HF-L with 7; while Saul led with 7 for RH.

Bloomfield-Honeoye 8 - Geneva 7
-- There was great excitement in Honeoye this afternoon as the Pride, in their opening game of their season, won 8-7 in overtime over visiting Geneva. Schyler Welch(1g-1a) scored the game winner with 1:22 left in overtime. The game, originally scheduled for Geneva was moved this morning due to field conditions at Geneva.The game was tied at 1-1 at the end of the first quarter and 2-2 at the half. Sean Beaney (12 ground balls) and Keeton Mashtare (5 ground balls) controlled the face offs for the Pride. Sam Rollo scored his only goal with an assist from Steve Fabrizio with 4:11 left in the last quarter to tie the at 7-7. Geneva's Goalie Ross Dinan made two big saves at the end of the game to send the game to overtime and added one point blank save early in the overtime.
A strong defensive play at the top of the box with 1:30 seconds left in OT by Pride defenseman Zach Blain led to a loose ball which he swatted over the midfield line. Schyler Welch made a great pick up under pressure and turn down field for the score. "This is our biggest win in our program's history," commented a very pleased Head Coach Jack Beaney.
-- Midlakes scored five goals in a five minute period in the second quarter and added another run of five goals (in four minutes) in the third on their way to at 16-5 win over visiting Newark. The game, originally scheduled for Newark was moved the Midlakes due to field conditions.
-- Junior midfielder Brett Wood's three goals and freshman goalie Tim Trickler's twelve saves were among the reasons that Mynderse Academy defeated Marcus Whitman 7-5 in a Finger Lakes league game today.
Senior goalie Nick Cosmano has 16 saves for the Wildcats, while Shawn Allen led in offensive scoring with three goals. Although a loss, Marcus Whitman Head Coach Bruce Teague was pleased with the Wildcat performance. "This is a much improved Whitman team from last season. For our first game game we can take some definite positives. Nick played an exceptional game in the goal. Jeffrey Bero and Shawn Allen showed they can lead our offense. The defense still showed a little rust and we made some mistakes that cost us in penalties and goals today, but Collin Ayers and Justin Englin stepped up and showed we can overcome some of them in the very near future."
-- It was slow start for both teams after a thirty minute delay for lightning, but Palmyra-Macedon was a 13-9 victor in their game against visiting Waterloo. The Indians had almost half of their goals scored in man up (four goals) while the Raiders were hit with eight penalties. Waterloo led at the half 5-4, but Pal-Mac returned after the half time break, scoring five goals in the third and four more the the fourth. Waterloo Goalie Zach Ramirez played a great game in goal, stopping a number of one on one shots and ending the game with 14 saves.
-- Penn Yan defeated Haverling in each quarter to win 18-7 over the Rams. The Mustangs had eleven different players make the scorebook. Dylan Yonts (3g-4a) lead all scoring. Preston Maciejewski also had 4 assists and Jordan Owen had 4 goals for the Mustangs.
Face-off's were a part of the Mustangs victory as Anthony Luppino finished at 74% winning 17/23 draws for Penn Yan. He also finished with 8 ground balls for the Mustangs. For Haverling, Matt Nesbitt (5), Brian Gable (4) and Trevor Lang (4) led in ground balls. Overall the officials let both teams play and the penalties were low; Penn Yan only had two opportunities and scored on one and Haverling had one opportunity on which Penn Yan held them scoreless.
In the cage, Robert Masti played the entire game for Haverling, and finished with 13 saves. Penn Yan had three different players between the pipes with Cody Richardson, Brandon Maciejewski and Jamil Modafarri all with time in the cage. Richardson finished with 9 saves after 34 minutes, Maciejewski finished with 2 saves over 10 minutes and Modafarri played four minutes without facing a shot.

-- Greece Athena/Odyssey held off the third quarter advances of East Rochester to defeat the Bombers 8-7. The Thunder won the first two quarters and tied the final quarter.
The Thunder led off the scoring with Nick Caracci assisting Anthony Merola. Merola finished with three goals for the Thunder. East Rochester came back with their first goal from Raymond Shalvoy (assisted by Jordan Michele) at 5:49. Athena scored the next four goals spanning two quarters. In the first quarter, Matt Keough scored (assisted by Tyler Gorgione) as well as Merola (assisted by Danny Vyverberg). Vyverberg finished with 3g-1a for the Thunder. At the end of the first quarter the Thunder led 3-1.
Greece Ath/Ody continued the pressure in the second quarter scoring the first two goals. Vyverberg scored both goals with assist from Keough and Gorgione. With 5:54 remaining in the first half the Thunder led 5-1 and looked to be in solid control of the game. ER added their second goal with another assist from Michele (goal by Nick Reiss). Vyverberg added his third goal with 1:55 remaining (putting all of his scoring in the first half). The Thunder led by four goals (6-2) at halftime.
After halftime, especially in the third quarter, the Bombers came back with a new spirit. They scored the first three goals of the third quarter with three different scorers making the book; Shalvoy, Michele and Clayton Vaughn scored with Darnell Rhodes, Reiss and Torin Hudson assisting. Vaughn's goal was scored during extra-man for the Bombers. The Bombers scored two goals on five extra-man opportunities. Gino Prestigiacomo scored unassisted for the lone Thunder goal of the third quarter with 4:33 remaining. Only 0:27 later Vaughn scored again (also during extra-man) with an assist from Rhodes. When the third quarter ended the Bombers had fought back from being down by four to being down by one goal (7-6).
In the fourth quarter with 10:26 remaining Michele scored unassisted to tie the game for the first time since 1-1. However, the Bombers could not score again and Greece Ath/Ody scored the winning goal with 2:11 remaining in the game. Merola added his final goal of the game with an assist from defenseman Brandon Cheeseman assisting.
In the cage, Zack Rudgers and Jonathan Caton both played the entire contest. Rudgers finished with 12 saves for the Thunder, while Caton finished with 8 saves for East Rochester. Prestigiacomo was a major force for Greece Ath/Ody at the face-off winning 11/15 (73%) for the Thunder. Prestigiacomo also co-led in ground balls with 5, Cheeseman also finished with 5 for the Thunder. East Rochester's Hudson led with 7 ground balls and midfielder Kyle Knopp (4) and Miles Boyer (3) also made contributions.

-- It was another tough loss of the Lancers this afternoon as the powerful Baron offense gave Brighton a 17-3 victory on the road. Brighton had eight different goal scorers with junior attackmen Matt Schuster, CJ Wool, and Brackett Bourne each scoring three. Senior middie Nick Wolak also scored three goals. Junior middie Max Brauer was perfect with face-offs winning 21/21.
"We are starting to get back some players who had early season injuries. Our younger players have been filling roles and we are seeing more cohesiveness as offensive and defensive units," said Brighton Head Coach Mike Gottko.

Robert Kitchen led the offensive scorebook with 6g-2a, but nine other Greece players made the offensive book.
