Look at the Wrap up for 2013

The Rochester Chapter of USLacrosse has announced the 2013 Herb Fitch Lacrosse All Star Game final player selections. 

The quarter final rounds were held in each of the three classes today and in each case the higher seeded team will advance to the semi-finals.

On the last big day of the regular season, Fairport needed overtime to beat Pittsford 10-9. Later Irondequoit took control of Canandaigua and beat the Braves 11-8.

In a couple of showdown games, Webster Thomas took control in the second half and defeated Canandaigua 13-6 tonight.

Aquinas was scheduled to play St. Joe's tonight, but the game was cancelled due to lightning storms in the area. The Hamburg at Penn Yan game was cancelled as well.

Sixteen games were played on another great spring day. Penfield beat Pittsford 7-5 in a key match up, making for exciting possible Class A semifinal games. Newark beat Midlakes by one goal as did Mynderse, who beat Gananda

There were lots of games on a beautiful Tuesday and a couple of close ones. Eastridge beat Brockport in overtime,

Unlike may of the game days of late, there were some very exciting games and scores today as 15 games were played. Mynderse beat Wayne 5-4, Fairport overcame a 3-1 deficit to beat Penn Yan 7-5 and Midlakes defeated Marcus Whitman 9-8.

The Rochester Democrat and Chronicle announced their 2013 All-Greater Rochester Lacrosse team today.

The final game of the year was celebrated by some of the best of the seniors in the Section who participated in the annual Herb Fitch All Star Game, sponsored by the Rochester Chapter of USLacrosse.

Finally, there were a number of close games played in the section today. Victor held off a last minute attack by Irondequoit to hold on to a 7-6 win. Hilton beat the Lightning 8-6, McQuaid came back hard to beat Livonia 14-13 in overtime.

A dozen games were played today. Three games were won by one goal, but most games were mismatches again today. In a "Storm game", Greece Ath/Ody (Thunder)beat Greece Arc/Oly (Lightning) 7-6.

Twelve of the sixteen games played on Tuesday were mismatches in which the winning teams outscored their opponents by 184-49. Irondequoit beat visiting Corning 13-8. Gananda beat Waterloo 8-7 and Hilton was a 10-7 winner over Greece Lightning.

There were thirteen games scheduled for Thursday. There were some blow-outs and there were some close one. Pittsford remained undefeated with an 11-6 win over St. Joseph's.

There were seventeen games scheduled for Tuesday and some although there were a number of mismatches, there were also some close ones. Mynderse took an early lead and fought off a late charge by Marcus Whitman to beat the Wildcats 10-7.

Vacation week is over and the teams of Section Five were ready to play today as twenty-eight teams suited up.

For the third time, Section Five Lacrosse selected first and second team All-Section players. The 2013 first team lists eighteen players and includes the ten All-Americans previously announced.

Senior midfielders Kevin Vaughn (Fairport), Jay Vakiener (Fairport) and Ben Brooks (Irondequoit), along wth senior defenseman Charlie Cummins (Penfield) and senior attackmen Albie DiPasquale (Pittsford) and Matt Kaser (Spencerport) were selected as USLacrosse All Americans.

The Head Coaches of Section Five met on Sunday afternoon to listen to the presentations of twenty-three players who had been nominated for All-America team honors.

There were only five games played today. Canandaigua broke open a tie with Geneva to win their game at Evans Field, 8-5. Webster Thomas had an exciting 9-8 win over visiting Churchville-Chili.

Geneva surprised many with their exciting 9-7 win over last year's Class B Champion, Irondequoit in a game played at Hobart College in Geneva today. The Eagles scored first and after Geneva came back for the tie Irondequoit went up again 2-1.

he period between summer of 2012 and March of 2013 was full of announcements about Section Five players who made the various types of commitments to attend and play lacrosse after the high school graduation.

There were eleven games played in the section on Tuesday as a number of team opened their seasons. Webster Thomas scored the last six goals of their game at Penfield, as they defeated Penfield 9-7.

The Brine All-American National Classic announced recently the players selected for the Upstate-Rochester team that will compete in July.

The Rochester Democrat and Chronicle announced their 2012 All-Greater Rochester Lacrosse team today. The list features the top sixteen players and another seventy-four honorable mentions were led by Fairport senior goalie, Blaze Rioden who was named "Player of the Year".

The top seeded Penn Yan (Class C), Irondequoit (Class B) and Fairport (Class A) each won their games on Championship Tuesday to earn their trips to the NYS tournament which, for Section V, starts on Saturday with the quarter finals games in Buffalo.

The surprise results of the night was Fairport's dramatic win against Pittsford as the Raiders won 9-1. In other parts of the Section, Pal-Mac's Ben Reeves and Spencerport's Matt Kaser both broke the 100 point mark for the season.

It was a beautiful day for lacrosse and six games were played. Most of the games were overmatches, with the closest game being Marcus Whitman over Wayne 8-4.

Having qualified four out of the last five years to represent the USA in the quest for the Brogden Cup, the Rochester Team won its second consecutive tournament with two wins over Canada last weekend in Florida.

Preseason 2013 - In a change from tradition, SportsFive will not be publishing individual preseason reports for each of the teams in the section this year.

There were 16 games in the Section today. Several were close and a number were not. Pittsford beat a determined McQuaid Jesuit 7-6. Waterloo beat Wayne 3-1.

There were fifteen games played on Thursday and most of them were not close. The most exciting game of the day may have been Irondequoit's 9-7 win over Penfield.

Wayne Central won their first varsity game today when they beat Midlakes 7-6. Canandaigua won in overtime against Victor. It was Eastridge over Greece Lightning 11-8, Geneva over Waterloo 6-2, Mynderse over Newark 10-7 and Gananda over the Pride 8-7.

On a very rainy day there were fourteen games played. Ithaca (Section IV) broke three tied quarters to beat visiting Irondequoit 11-8. With 1:24 remaining in the first overtime period, Aaron Buck scored during a double man-up opportunity to secure a 13-12 win for the Churchville-Chili over Spencerport.

enn Yan, Fairport and Irondequoit all maintained their undefeated season with wins today. Penn Yan played a close 10-8 game with Penfield. Fairport beat Canandaigua 8-3 and Irondequoit was a winner over Schroeder. Other winners today were Churchville-Chili, Gates Chili, Spencerport,

On the last day of March there were a dozen games played and one game postponed. The most exciting game was Gates over Eastridge in overtime. Pal-Mac Beat Geneva 8-7.

Seven games were played on Tuesday including two GRALL league games. Five games were won by nine or more goals.

After three weeks of warm weather it was a little disheartening to have drizzle and cooler weather for the start of the game season. Three of the four games played in the section today were hosted at Aquinas. The first game of the season was Haverling-Haverling vs Mynderse Academy.

There were a number of important college commitments made
during the summer of 2012.

Irondequoit "two-way" middie. Ben Brooks has announced his commitment to play at Mercyhurst University after his up-coming senior year with the Eagles.

Senior Midfielder Benjamin Brooks signed his National Letter of Intent on November 3rd with members of his family including grandparents and mother and a host of the Irondequoit High School lacrosse team members
present. His off season experience have included playing for the Blaze Rising senior team, and the SweetLax AA Elite team. He was also named a Brine National High School All American last summer. Ben will join his brother Ian for the 2014 season at Mercyhurst University.

Senior defenseman Justin Sales recently announced his decision to continue to play lacrosse while at Mercyhurst University (Erie Pennsylvania) and after a final year at Irondequoit.
