Saturday: Irondequoit falls, C-C in OT, Whitman by One
On a very rainy day there were fourteen games played. Ithaca (Section IV) broke three tied quarters to beat visiting Irondequoit 11-8. With 1:24 remaining in the first overtime period, Aaron Buck scored during a double man-up opportunity to secure a 13-12 win for the Churchville-Chili over Spencerport. Marcus Whitman. Senior middie Clay Wilson scored the game winning goal for Marcus Whitman with 2.4 seconds left in regulation as the Wildcat beat Waterloo 8-7. Gates Chili won their 8-6 game against Brockport. The other winners were Eastridge, Hilton, Pal-Mac, Geneva, Newark, Livonia, Clarence, Penn Yan, Fairport and Canandaigua.

-- Fairport scored the first nine goals to go up 9-0 at halftime on their way to an 11-7 win over Aquinas. Once the Red Raiders put in their non-starters the Little Irish put up more of a fight and won the second half 7-2. Leading in scoring for Aquinas was Alex Bianchi with 4g-1a. Attackman Joe Snook also added 2g-1a for the Little Irish. Midfielder Jake Vogl led his team with six ground balls and Billy Lombardi added four.
For Fairport, midfielder Jay Vakiener led with 2g-2a and midfielder Andrew Brennan finished with 3g. At the face-off draw, Shane Stickle finished with 9/15 (60%). He also led his team with four ground balls. Brian Martin also finished with four ground balls for the Red Raiders. In the cage for Fairport, Blaze Riorden played the first half with two recorded saves. Jake Newkirk and Pete Gropp each played a quarter and neither finished with any saves.

-- Eastridge came back from an early deficit to defeat Greece Athena/Odyssey 12-7. The Thunder initially led 4-1 after the first quarter. The Lancers came back in the second quarter to tie the game. They won the second half 7-2 to extend their lead. Junior attackman Anthony Coffaro led in scoring with 4g-1a. In the cage, TJ Ennis finished with 10 saves.
Junior midfielder Anthony Merola led the offense for the Thunder with 5g-1a.

-- Gates Chili scored five of their eight goals during man-up to defeat Brockport 8-6. The Spartans scored four straight goals early in the game and never trailed after the opening goal. Their fifth, sixth and eighth goals were scored during 6 on 6. Ralph Taliento scored the first two and Phil Ruf scored the last. In the cage for Gates-Chili, Tyler Jacobson finished with nine saves.
Brockport had scoring from five different players. Markell Collins finished with two goals. Attackmen Nikko Nolletti, Benjamin Madafferi and Andy Reed each added one goal. Billy Russell scored the final goal of the contest with 0:04 remaining on the clock. In the cage for Brockport, Hunter DeLany finished with 14 saves.

-- Penn Yan traveled to Central Square where they met Carthage of Section III for an intersectional contest. The Mustangs scored three unanswered goals in the first quarter and added four more before the half on their way to a 10-1 victory.
Sophomore attackman Bradley Voigt scored 4g-2a and junior attackman Ryan Maciejewski added 1g-3a to lead the Penn Yan offense. Voigt lead the team this season in offensive production with 27g-17a in nine games. Sophomore goalie Brandon Maciejewski who has a season save average of 75% in nine games, finished today with 6s/1ga (86%).
Penn Yan (9-0) play their next game next Saturday, when Victor comes to Mustang Stadium. Carthage (6-3) will take on General Brown on Wednesday.
Churchville-Chili 13 - Spencerport 12 in Overtime |

-- It took Churchville-Chili overtime play to defeat Spencerport 13-12. The Saints tried to pull away a number of times. However, the Rangers kept coming back and keeping the game close. The score was never more than three goals apart. Spencerport even fought back to two brief leads in the fourth quarter. With 1:24 remaining in the first overtime period, Aaron Buck scored during a double man-up opportunity to secure the win for the Saints.
In the first quarter both teams scored two goals. Churchville-Chili scored the opening goals with Buck Pat Bonafede scoring unassisted goals. Spencerport came back and added two more goals in the final two minutes of the quarter. Zach Goodsell and Jeff Nitti scored the first of their goals. Goodsell finished with 4g-1a and Nitti finished with 2g. Senior attackman Matt Kaser led the Rangers with 3g-4a. The score was tied 2-2 after the first quarter.
In the second quarter C-C took a one goal lead adding three and holding Spencerport to only two. Churchville-Chili's Nick Gray added two unassisted goals to give Churchville-Chili the slight edge going into halftime. In the third quarter, Churchville-Chili added their third goal in a row to take the two goal lead with a man-up goal by Buck, assisted by Bonafede. Spencerport took 2:23 to tie the score for the fifth time. With the score tied, the Saints added the next three goals and tried to pull away again. Trevor Hodgins scored the first two unassisted with Bonafede scoring the third. With 3:25 remaining in the third quarter the largest Churchville-Chili lead was reached (9-6). However, before the quarter ended. Spencerport scored two goals of their own to bring the game back to within a single goal. Kaser scored both goals with the latter assisted by Seth Miller. Churchville-Chili led 9-8 after three quarters.
Spencerport made their move in the fourth quarter. Churchville-Chili scored the opening goal with Gray assisting Kevin O'Donnell to give the Saints another two goal lead. The Rangers scored the next three goals to take their first lead of the game with 4:42 remaining in regulation. Goodsell added two and Jeff Nitti added the third. Churchville-Chili tied the game with 3:01 remaining with O'Donnell's second goal. The game remained tied for 2:25. With only 0:36 remaining, Spencerport took the lead when Miller scored with an assist from Kaser. The Rangers looked to have the game in the bag. Miller, who won face offs at 68%, just had to win the draw and hold the ball. However, the Saints won the ball on a technical face-off and had another chance to tie the game. Hodgins took the ball and scored 13 seconds later to send the game to overtime.
After several back and forth plays, Buck scored to win for the Saints. Miller, in addition to his stellar face off percentage, led his team with 12 ground balls. In the cage, Dodge Dustin got the start and finished with eight saves for the Rangers. For Churchville-Chili, defenseman Nick Bruno and attackman Hodgins both finished with five ground balls. In the cage for the Saints, Jack Corcoran finished with four saves.

-- Although the game started out strongly in Greece Arcadia/Olympia's corner, the Cadets came back for the impressive 10-5 win over the Lightning. Greece scored the first three goals as well as the last goal of the contest. Greece came out shooting with Robert Kitchen, Dylan Mahan and Nick Capone each adding a single goal in the first eight minutes. The Lightning led 3-0 with 4:19 remaining in the opening quarter. Hilton scored the next six goals spanning into the second quarter.
Harald Juergens, who finished with 2g, scored both of his goals in the series. Jake Montgomery also added two goals with Dante Giordano and Cory Endres scoring the final two. Greece added a single goal to open the third quarter. After that Lightning goal, the Cadets added another four to take a 10-4 lead with 8:57 remaining in the game. Mahan scored the final goal of the game for Greece with Nick Serio assisting.
Capone, who took the majority of the face offs for the Lightning, finished at 67% (8/12). He also led his team in ground balls with three. In the cage for Greece, Shane Trost finished with eight saves. For Hilton, Juergens and midfielder Derek Richards both finished with a team leading eight ground balls. Attackman Jake Montgomery finished with seven ground balls for the Cadets. In the cage, Jarod Kimble and Mark Detroia split halves. Kimble recorded one save and Detroia recorded five saves.

For Irondequoit, senior midfielder Briele Caples scored 4g and senior attackman Connor Enright added 2g-2a. Face off specialist Ben Brooks won 11 of 19 at the draw for Irondequoit (6-1). The Eagles will play HF-L and Penfield next week.

Canandaigua will play Victor on Tuesday and Thomas on Thursday next week. No report from McQuaid last night.

-- Pal-Mac defeated Wayne 15-3. The Red Raiders had nine different players make their offensive scorebook. Leading the charge was senior attackman Kyle Ludwig with 7g-1a. Sophomore attackman Ben Reeves finished with 3g-4a for Pal-Mac. Tyler Hurlbutt, after being pulled up from JV two days ago, continued to add to his point total with another goal today. Senior goalie Cody Rogers played the majority of the game between the pipes and recorded five saves. Jack DeMeyers played the final seven minutes and did not record a save
Sophomore Attackman Tim Oddi led the Wayne offense with two goals and an assist.

-- Geneva scored the first 10 goals to defeat Bloomfield-Honeoye 16-1. Seven different players made the offensive book with junior Sean Cunningham (3g-4a) leading the charge. Fran Shaw (4g-1a), Drew Feinberg (4g-1a) and Jesse Singleton (2g-3a) all added five points for the Panthers. In the cage, Derek Grillone and Jake Sahrle split time. Grillone finished with four saves and Sahrle finished with two saves. No report from B-H.

-- Marcus Whitman scored five unanswered goals in the first quarter, but let Waterloo come back in the second quarter with two unanswered goals. In the third quarter, The Indians continued to chip away winning the quarter 2-1. In the last quarter Waterloo won 3-2. With 1:57 left in the game Whitman was flagged for a slash and Waterloo converted the man up opportunity with 1:42 left. Waterloo junior Charlie Eshenour picked up the ball on the face off and scored a fast break goal with 1:33 left to create a 7-7 tie. Senior middie Clay Wilson scored the game winning goal for Marcus Whitman with 2.4 seconds left in regulation.
"We came out strong in the first quarter and we were able to get some high percentage shots on cage," commented Whitman Head Coach Bruce Teague Jr.. "Waterloo changed up their defense starting in the second quarter and took away some of those looks we had early. Both teams struggled handling the ball in the rain at times."
Leading the offensive effort for Marcus Whitman were senior middie Matt Hay (2g-2a) and senior attackman Jeffrey Bero (3g). Sophomore goalie Merritt Bailey made 10 saves (59%). The Wildcats will play Pal-Mac on Tuesday and Newark on Friday next week.
Leading the offense for Waterloo were seniors Zarrien Sloan (2g) and Trevor Black (1g-1a) and junior Tim Wright (1g-1a). Senior goalie Josh Bailey recorded 12s (60%) for the Indians. They will be busy next week with games against Geneva, Midlakes and Bloomfield-Honeoye.

-- Newark took an 8-2 halftime lead over Batavia on their way to a 14-3 win over the Blue Devils. The Reds were led in scoring by senior attackman John Denniston with five goals. Freshman Andrew Garrett also added his first varsity goal of the season. In the cage, Dominic Camblin finished with five saves. For the Blue Devils, senior Austin Wilkinson (1g-1a) led in scoring. In the cage, James Gomez played the majority of the game and finished at 50% (12 saves). Kenneth Cook played the final five minutes and also finished at 50% (2 saves).

Defenseman Peter Diak led his team in ground balls with seven. Goalie McKenzie Spooner finished at 50% (9 saves).
Livonia attackman Wyatt Struble led in scoring with 1g-4a. Midfielder Derek Bishopp was just behind with 4g for the Bulldogs. Bishopp also finished 9/16 (56%) at the face off draw and with a team leading nine ground balls. Defenseman Nick Jonasse also finished with nine ground balls for the Bulldogs. In the cage, Ethan Jamison finished with 11 saves (69%).

-- After an overtime loss to Pittsford on April 2nd, the Clarence Red Devils came back to Section Five and defeated Victor 11-9. The Blue Devils started out strong, leading after the first half 4-1. The Red Devils scored five goals in both the third and fourth quarters.
Four players combined for all of the Red Devils points. Midfielder Alec Diestch (4g), Tyler Skowromski (3g-2a) and Lex Oakes (2g) scored for Clarence. In the cage, Nate Martina finished with five saves. Victor's scoring was led by Max Hill (3g) and John Maloney (2g-1a). Maloney led in shooting for the Blue Devils with 11 shots. TJ DiSanto finished with a team leading nine ground balls, a majority from the wing line. In the cage, Chris Saar finished with nine saves.
