# 2143  Thursday: The Final Four - CA in the Finals

Canandaigua becomes the fourth team in Section Five history to make the State Championship game. Fairport lost to Garden City in 1986 in Class A; Irondequoit lost to Yorktown in 1993 in Class B; and Penn Yan lost to Manhasset in 2004. Penn Yan is still the only Section Five team to ever win a State Championship in lacrosse with their 2001 win over Manhasset.

Section Five won two out of three as Penn Yan beat Silver Creek 17-6 and Canandaigua beat Hamburg 17-3. Webster Thomas fell to Orchard Park in the Class A game 22-10. In the three games, the combined scores were 61-19. Two of the games went into running time, with the third (Penn Yan) being decided with an 11 goal differential.

Canandaigua becomes the fourth team in Section Five history to make the State Championship game. Livonia (#3) upset Aquinas (#2) 10-9 in a Class C game. All other games were won by the first and second seeds. Fairport beat Schroeder 9-8, Thomas beat Pittsford 10-8, Canandaigua beat Brighton 15-7 and Irondequoit was a 12-5 winner over McQuaid Jesuit. In the other Class C game, Penn Yan defeated Geneva 9-7.

Penfield avenged an earlier loss to Fairport in a Monroe County game and Penn Yan used two over time periods to beat Canandaigua in Finger Lakes play. The Rochester Chapter of USLacrosse has announced the 2009 Senior All Star Game selections. This year's contest, featuring some of the best of the graduating seniors will be held on Saturday, July 11th at Victor High School. The boys' game will be at 7:00 PM and will be preceded by the Girls' game at 5:00 PM.

# 363  Kenny Nelson Selects Mercyhurst

Webster Schroeder High School rising senior Kenny Nelson recently announced his commitment to play lacrosse at Mercyhurst University (Erie, PA). The attackman, was the team leader in goals and points with 29g-5a last year. Off-season he had been on the Nike Upstate Rising junior team, and last summer played on the Brine National tournament where he was named a Brine All-American. He also played on the Western Team in the Empire Cup Tournament in Syracuse.
