Monday - A couple of Close Ones
Penn Yan won by two and Canandaigua and Pal-Mac won by one, but Eastridge and Gates won by large margins. Midlakes beat Waterloo 10-7.
Canandaigua started out in the first quarter with a 4-1 lead which ended up making a difference as the Braves beat visiting Geneva 10-9. Geneva returned in the second quarter outscoring CA 3-2 and ending the half with Canandaigua up 6-4. Both teams scored 4 goals in the third and Geneva scored the only goal in the last quarter. Kevin Peck won 12 of 16 face offs for Canandaigua.
Scoring for Canandaigua were Connor Henderson (5g-1a), Brian Scheetz (3g-2a), Jeremy Brown (1g-1a) and AJ Groot (1g-2a), Scott Bement made 20s/9ga (69%) for the Braves (12-1).
Scoring for Geneva were RJ Gringeri (4g), Jim Warner (3g), Greg Bonney (1g-1a) and Kyle Boncaro (1g-1a). Matt Schutz made 10 saves and Kyle Brimm added 2 saves for the Panthers (9-4).
Although Penn Yan led after each quarter, the game was close as the Mustangs beat hosting Victor 8-6. Penn Yan was ahead 3-2 after the first quarter, 5-3 at the half and 6-4 after three quarters.
Scoring for Penn Yan were Adam Trombley (2g-2a), Matt Osgood (3g-1a), Donnie Benedict (1a), Mike Manley (1g), Cole Castle (1g-1a) and Ryan Cook (1g-1a). RJ Wickham had 10s/6ga (63%) for the Mustangs (9-4).
Scoring for Victor were Ethan Payne (3g), Andy Savage (2g), Alex Rogemoser (2a), Frank Valenti (1g), Steve Hearn (1g) and Jason Houtenbrink (1a). Mitchell Liegerot recorded 11s/8ga (58%) for the Blue Devils (7-6).
It was Newark 13-10 over Mynderse in a hotly contested night game.
Newark struck quickly with 2 goals from Matt Clemons in the first 2 minutes of the game. Newark's Stephen Johnson added a third at the 8:48 mark for a 3-0 lead. Mynderse got on the board with goals from Anthony Clark and Dustin Luckinbill.
With 2:10 remaining in the second quarter, Luckinbill scored again to give Mynderse a 5-4 advantage. Newark then responded with an unassisted goal from Stephen Johnson at 1:23 and another tally by Colin Johnson from Stephen Johnson at :37 to end the half at 6-5 Newark advantage.
The second half started with a flurry of goals: Newark's Adam Golding unassisted at 11:49, Mynderse's Dustin Luckinbill unassisted at 11:22, and Newark's Colin Johnson from Stephen Johnson at 11:09 for a 8-6 Newark advantage. The remaining game was close with the lead fluctuating back and forth.
In the cage Josh Putman finished with 20s/10ga (66%) for the Reds (6-6). While Tony Pallidino had 6s/13ga (32%) for the Blue Devils (3-9).
Scoring for Newark were Colin Johnson (6g-1a), Stephen Johnson (3g-2a), John Barrett (3a), Matt Clemons (2g) and Adam Golding (2g).
Scoring for Mynderse were Dustin Luckinbill (5g), Anthony Clark (3g), A.J. Bachman (3a) and Josh Kurdziolek (2g).
Eastridge defeated Greece Athena/Odyssey 16-5 this afternoon. In the cage junior Eugene Ferrera recorded 9s/5ga (64%) for Eastridge while Nick Bellucco, 3s/12ga and Dave Tarana, 7s/4ga (64%) split time for Ath/Ody.
Scoring for Eastridge were Alex Austin (2g-6a), Matt Driffill (2g-3a), Brandon Moynihan (4g), Kevin Mahler (3g-1a), John Laganello (2g-1a), Alan Ingrasio (1g-1a), Todd Horne (2a), Shane Driffill (1g) and Curtis Scott (1g). The Lancers are (9-3).
Scoring for Greece Ath/Ody were Jeremy Fitzgerald (2g), Jared Bennett (2g), Phil Rodriguez (2a) and Nate Wallenhorst (1g). Athena/Odyssey is now (3-8).
Pal-Mac was down 3-0 in the first quarter but scored 5-0 in the second to make the half time score 5-3. Haverling's John Pruyn scored the only goal in the third and each team scored two goals in the fourth quarter to give Pal Mac the 7-6 win at Haverling.
Scoring for Pal-Mac were Steve Vanderwalle (2g-1a), Cody Clement (2g-1a), Jeremy Norsen (1g-2a), Dan Evans (1g), Pete Makios (1g) and Jordan Wirthman (1a). Jon Reeves had 10s/6ga (63%) for P-M (3-10).
Scoring for Haverling were John Pruyn (3g-1a), Nick Venuti (1g-1a), Dave Harris (1g-1a) and Brad Fuerst (1g). Chris Wolfer made 18s/7/ga (72%) for the Rams.
Gates Chili improved their record to 7-5 with a 12-0 win over host Batavia this afternoon.
Scoring to the Spartans were Andy Hilton (6g-3a), Tom elkins (3g-1a), Tom Sudek (1g-2a), Jeff Fichtner (1g), Brad Weber (2a) and Pat Sposato (1g-1a).
Batavia goalie Matt Landfried saved 22 of 34 shots on the net.
Midlakes defeated Waterloo in a Finger Lakes division-2 game 10-7. The game was close after the first quarter with the score tied 3-3. Midlakes took a 6-4 lead into the half. The Indians won the third quarter 2-1, but then lost the fourth 3-1.
In the cage, junior goalie Jared Schoonerman recorded 11s/7ga (61%) for Midlakes while Zach Bowen played the entire game for the Indians finishing with 12s/10ga (55%).
Scoring for Midlakes (5-7) were Tyler Brooks-Lambert (2g-1a), Glen Stevenson (4g-1a), Nick Newland (2g-2a), Conor Hogan (1g-1a) and Ben Uveges (1g-1a).
