Friday: Canandaigua and Geneva Win

There should be a major shake up in the NYSSWA poll next week as the result of Canandaigua's 10-6 win over Hamburg (Section VI), currently ranked number two in this week's poll. In the other contest, today, Geneva won a 9-4 victory over Midlakes.

 

Canandaigua 10 - Hamburg 6 

 --  Hamburg (Section VI), ranked second in the Class B NYSSWA Poll, took a 2-1 lead in the first quarter and led 5-4 at the half, but Canandaigua came back after the half and held the Bulldogs scoreless for twenty-two and a half minutes, while scoring six for themselves as they won a 10-6 victory on the road.

Defensemen Evan Burley, Matt Smith, Sean Regan, Adam Fingar, Kyle Stanney, and Matt George all had an outstanding game. Leading the defensive effort was junior goalie Nick King who recorded 10s/6ga. Senior midfielder Marshall Johnson won 13 of 17 face offs for the Braves (9-2).

Scoring for Canandaigua were Deven Alves (1g), Tanner Scharr (2g), Brian Scheetz (3g-4a), Marshall Johnson (2a), Tom LaCrosse (1g), Collin Peck (1a), Gannon Osborn (1g) and Brandon Thomson (2g).

Scoring for Hamburg were Christopher Feuerstein (2g), Josh Kerr (1g-1a), Matt Springer (2g-1a) and Ryan Feuerstein (1g-1a). James Maxwell had 8s/10ga for Hamburg (8-1).

 

Geneva 9 - Midlakes 4 

 --  Geneva scored three goals in the first quarter and four before the half, and that was enough as they beat Midlakes 9-4 today at Midlakes High School. Geneva led 3-2 after the first quarter and 7-2 at the half.

Scoring for Geneva were Billy Eddington (3g-1a), Tyler Travis (1g-2a), Frank Triana (1g), Will Brennan (1g), Chris Pitifer (1g), Chris Tapscott (1g) and Jeff Springmeier (1g). Ross Dinan made 8s/4ga for the Panthers.

Scoring for Midlakes were Matt Barilla (1g-1a), Nick Judge (2g), Corey Gray (1a) and Travis Bevins (1g). Tucker Jensen made 8s/9ga for the Eagles.
