EDITOR'S NOTE: This weekly summary touches on some of the games played in the recent past and highlights some games of interest in the current week. For more in-depth coverage, click on the DAY OF THE WEEK for more coverage for that day, including box scores, articles, and galleries.

There were thirty-four games played last week. There were sixty-six out of section games scheduled and 66 have been played. Section V teams won 41 and lost 25 (62% wins). There was one undefeated team for the regular season: Pal-Mac (14-0).

Looking Back

Throughout the week, Section V teams battled it out in thrilling matchups filled with dramatic finishes and dominant performances. Monday saw Churchville-Chili and Haverling secure narrow victories, while Newark, Spencerport, Bloomfield-Honeoye, and Mynderse-Romulus delivered commanding wins.Bri at Fpt Tuesday featured intense clashes, with Victor, HFL, and Brighton emerging victorious in hard-fought battles, while Geneva, Pal-Mac, and Penn Yan showcased their offensive power. Wednesday saw Pittsford edge out Canandaigua 11-10, alongside strong wins from Livonia-Avon-Geneseo, Spencerport, Gates Chili, and Bloomfield-Honeoye. Thursday marked the conclusion of the regular season with decisive victories from Fairport, McQuaid Jesuit, Newark, Wayne, Geneva, and Penfield, with standout performances and milestone achievements taking center stage. No games were played on Friday, as tournament seeding awarded top spots to McQuaid, Canandaigua, Pal-Mac, and Penn Yan. Saturday’s Round 1 games were dominated Gates at BHby Irondequoit, Spencerport, Brighton, and Haverling, securing their places in the quarterfinals. The week concluded on Sunday as Aquinas overcame an early deficit to defeat Thomas 11-8, with Guggino and Auriuso leading the charge. Aquinas now advances to face Canandaigua in the quarterfinals.

Monday: Thrillers & Dominations Define the Day
Six games lit up the scoreboard today, with two delivering nail-biting finishes. Churchville-Chili outlasted Livonia-Avon-Geneseo 10-8, fueled by William Morgan’s offensive firepower and a stellar performance by goalie Dominic Marra. Meanwhile, Haverling edged Gananda 13-12 in a dramatic back-and-forth battle, with Colegrove netting six goals and Stermole making clutch saves down the stretch. Elsewhere, Newark, Spencerport, Bloomfield-Honeoye, and Mynderse-Romulus secured decisive victories, showcasing dominant offensive performances and milestone achievements.

Tuesday: Heroics and High-Scoring Battles
Eleven games took place today, with four delivering edge-of-your-seat action. Victor rallied past Hilton 8-6, overturning a halftime deficit with a dominant third quarter. HFL outlasted Rush-Henrietta 15-13 in a back-and-forth contest, fueled by Grady Goodberlet’s explosive five-goal, five-assist performance. Brighton stunned Fairport 10-8, closing strong with three unanswered goals in the final quarter. Elsewhere, dominant showings saw teams like Geneva, Pal-Mac, and Penn Yan secure decisive wins, rounding Bri at Fptout an action-packed day on the field. The Players of the Week honored Jackson Dennie (Pal-Mac) and Danile Schmitz (Rush-Henrietta) on Tuesday.

Wednesday: Pittsford Over CA in Close One
Six games were played today, with two coming down to the wire. Pittsford edged out Canandaigua in a tense 11-10 battle, fueled by Grant Lewis’ four-goal effort and key saves by Bear Wehrheim. Meanwhile, Livonia-Avon-Geneseo survived a back-and-forth showdown against Marcus Whitman, pulling away late for a 15-10 victory. Elsewhere, Spencerport, Gates Chili, and Bloomfield-Honeoye secured decisive wins, with standout performances from Zach Tortora, Jayden Maryjanowski, and Brayden Arber, respectively.

Thursday: The Regular Season Ends - Tournaments Next
Six games were played today, all decided by more than three goals, showcasing powerful performances across the board. Fairport edged out Penn Yan 12-8 in a closely contested battle, with Mitchell Monte leading the charge while Teagan Fingar reached a milestone with his 201st career goal. Meanwhile, McQuaid Jesuit made history with its first-ever victory over Thomas, 12-9, propelled by standout performances from John Burrows and Domenic Giangreco, who dominated faceoffs. Elsewhere, Newark's Sam Underhill exploded for nine goals in a Bri at Fptcommanding 21-9 win over Haverling, and Wayne overcame an early deficit to top Bloomfield-Honeoye 19-9 behind Mason Michel’s six-goal performance. Geneva cruised past Waterloo 16-1, while Penfield spread the scoring in an 18-7 win over Churchville-Chili, completing a day of decisive victories across divisions.

Friday: A unusual day off with no games played. The tournament seeding saw top seeds to McQuaid, Canandaigua, Pal-Mac and Penn Yan.

Saturday: Dominant Wins in Round 1 Games
All four games played today were decisive victories, with winning margins exceeding three goals and with the higher seeded teams winning. Irondequoit showcased a commanding performance in their 16-2 win over Gates Chili, led by Kieran Stenzel and Cooper Moore, while goalie Sven Habitzreuther held a perfect save percentage. Spencerport controlled their matchup against Schroeder, securing a 6-2 victory behind strong showings from Zachary Ajavananda and Gavin Brown, despite a late push from Schroeder in the fourth quarter. Brighton extended their winning streak to 10 games with a 15-5 triumph over Churchville-Chili, fueled by multi-goal efforts from Miles McGuire, Gavin Parks, and Tim Tourangeau. Haverling rounded out the day with a dominant 17-3 win over Waterloo, headlined by Maclain Wright’s five-goal performance. Thomas McQ at Irond will play at Aquinas on Sunday. Quarterfinal matchups are next on the horizon for these teams as they prepare for the next stage of competition.

Sunday: Aquinas vs Thomas
Aquinas overcame an early deficit to defeat Thomas 11-8 on Sunday. Leading scorers for Aquinas were Jake Guggino and Tano Auriuso with four goals each, while Jake Polizzi led Thomas with three goals and one assist. Aquinas goalie Jake Gibson recorded 23 saves with a 74% save percentage. Aquinas moves on to face Canandaigua in the quarterfinals, while Thomas concludes their season at 7-10.

Looking Ahead

The Section V tournament is underway with quarterfinals and semifinals scheduled for this week. In the Round 1 games, all of the higher Bri at Fpt seeded teams won their games. By Saturday, the championship games will be set.

Tuesday will see the quarterfinal games played for each of the four classes. 

On Friday there will be semifinal games in classes A, C, and D. The class A games will be held at Spencerport. The Class C games will be played at Victor, and the Class D semifinals will be played at Geneva. All of the Friday games will be played at 5:00 or 7:30. Usually the higher seeded team will play at 5:00 but check the schedules. 

On Saturday as there were no fields available for a Friday game, the Class B games will be played at Wayne at 11:00 and 1:30.

GATES CHILI-2 at IRONDEQUOIT-16 - Irondequoit secured a 16-2 victory over Gates Chili, with Kieran Stenzel and Cooper Moore leading the offense. Eight players CC at Bricontributed goals, including first varsity tallies from Hunter Weisbeck and Liam West. Goalie Sven Habitzreuther recorded a perfect save percentage in his half in the cage. Gates Chili’s Michael Alley scored both of his team’s goals, and goalie Demar Williams finished with ten saves. Irondequoit will face Hilton in the upcoming quarterfinals.    [ Story and BOX SCORE

SCHROEDER-2 at SPENCERPORT-6 - Spencerport claimed a six-two win over Schroeder on Saturday, led by multi-goal performances from Zachary Ajavananda and Gavin Brown. Schroeder responded in the fourth quarter with goals from Garrett Conger and Cody Preston. Spencerport goaltender Zach Miceli posted nine saves with an eighty-two percent save rate, while Schroeder’s Van Bolton finished with twelve saves and a sixty-seven percent save rate. Seven players scored for Haverling, with Maclain Wright leading the way with five goals and two assists. Junior goalie McLane Stermole recorded a 63% save percentage.
