# 2960 2019 Season Wrap Up Batavia joined with both Attica and Notre Dame (to form what we canlled BAND) and otherwise the teams remained the same with thirty-five playing in Section Five this year. There were 1,129 players on the rosters at the during of the season and 914 on the final rosters. Fairport carried the largest roster with forty-one players and Spencerport had the smallest with sixteen. |
# 2957 2019 Senior All-Star Games The Rochester Chapter of USLacrosse recently announced the 2019 Herb Fitch Lacrosse All Star Game player selections. This year's contest, featuring some of the best of the graduating seniors will be held on Thursday, June 13th at Victor High School. The boys' game will start at 6:00 PM and the girls' play at 8:00 PM. |

# 2942 Penn Yan Advances to Face LaFayette Penn Yan came back from an early deficit to defeat Eden 8-5. Earlier in the season, the Mustangs won the matchup 14-0. Eden, who led 3-1 early in the game, played strong for four quarters and kept the game within one for much of the second half. This was the first time that Eden had advanced to the State Tournament. The Raiders were led in scoring by Sawyer Schiedel (1g-1a), Zach Smalling (1g-1a) and Quinn Harrington (1g-1a) with two points each. In the cage for Eden, Zach DeCarolis finished with 19 saves. Colton Smith led in scoring for the Mustangs with 4g-1a. |
# 2938 2019 All Tournament Teams The All Tournament Teams for 2018 were announced at each final on Tuesday and Wednesday. The Most Valuable Player in Class A was Colin Peers (Fairport), in Class C, Sam Miller (Geneva), in Class D, Connor Fingar (Penn Yan) and in Class B, Jack LaRue (Victor). Players were selected on the basis of their performances in the Section Five Tournaments. |
# 2929 2019 All-Americans Announced *+The Head Coaches of Section Five recently considered players who had been nominated for All-American and All-Academic awards. The awards, sponsored by US Lacrosse, identify some of the best players from each area around the country. Each of the Head Coaches in the section is allowed to vote on each of the awards. |
# 2926 Penn Yan Secures 24th Win Penn Yan came back in overtime to defeat Pal-Mac 10-9 to win their 24th Sectional Title. The Mustangs trailed early in the contest before taking a one goal lead into the break. They held that lead into the fourth, when Pal-Mac scored the final two goals of regulation to force overtime. The Red Raiders had the first overtime offensive opportunity after winning the draw; however, they could not get a shot off on cage before Penn Yan got the ball upfield on an errant pass. The Mustangs scored with 0:05 left in the first overtime period with an inside dodge by Colton Smith. Smith was named to the All Tournament Team. |

# 2877 Westhill Defeats Penn Yan by One Friday: DAY IN REVIEW: For the third time this season the Penn Yan Mustangs lost a game win a single goal. Tonight the Mustangs fell to Westhill (Syracuse) 5-4. After a 2-2 first quarter Penn Yan scored the only goal in the the second, but gave up two goals in the third (while scoring one) to tie at the end of three quarters. Westhill (10-3) scored the only goal in the last quarter. Four different players each scored two pints for Westhill. # 2848 Finally Some Close Games Saturday: DAY IN REVIEW: After a number of days full of mismatches, a number of the six games played today were close ones. Penn Yan overcame a 7-3 defecit and scored six goals to force a tied with Canandaigua, who won in the first overtime period. Geneva played a close game with Greece, winning 10-6 after multiple late goals by Sam Miller. West Genesee was an 11-8 winner against Hilton and Pittsford lost an 8-7 game with G-M. Finally, Wayne was a 10-8 winner over Aquinas and, by the way, Victor posted a 17-2 win over Kettle Moraine (Wisconsin). |
# 2845 Fairport Over Penfield Wednesday: DAY IN REVIEW: After a close first quarter, Fairport scored three unanswered goals in the second and three more in the last quarter to achieve a 7-2 win at Penfield. Junior midfielder Klay Stuver led the Red Raider offense with 3g while junior goalie Tim Defendis made six saves (75%). LukeCondon and Max Hoadley each scored a groal for Penfield and Travis Wagner made twenty-one saves (75%) for the Patriots who will play Victor on Tuesday. Fairport will take on Thomas, also on Tuesday. |

# 1447 Penn Yan Falls in State Finals Pleasantville came into the State Final game for the first time in their program history and defeated Penn Yan 16-2. The Panthers have made the State Semi Finals in the past, but this was their first time at the big game. Both teams played a close game for the first quarter before Pleasantville pulled away. The Panthers held the Mustangs scoreless for the final 36 minutes as they slowly added to their offensive count. |

The Little Irish scored five of the last seven goals to pull within two. The Final Aquinas goal was scored with 7:21 remaining and the final seven minutes were back and forth play with Penn Yan holding the ball and Aquinas trying to force their shots. |

Spencer Bell scored 3g-1a and Klay Stuver added 3g for the Red Raiders who will finish their season on Friday when they play Corning. Tim Defendis made 9 saves for the Fairport (82%). |
# 1403 Week in Review: Week 7 It is hard to imagine, but we are entering the final week of regular season games. The last games will be played on Friday and the tournaments will begin on May 21st. Two hundred and forty-seven games have been played thus far. Sixty-four (of seventy-three out of Section games scheduled) have been played. Section five teams have won forty-five (70%). Victor, Thomas, HF-L, Gananda and McQuaid Jesuit continue at the top of their leagues. |
