# 3515  Clean Sweep for Section V

DAY IN REVIEW: SATURDAY - There were quarterfinal games played today in the NYSPHSAA Lacrosse Tournaments and Section V teams won each game.

McQuaid vs OPMCQUAID JESUIT-13 vs ORCHARD PARK-6 - In the Class A game, held in Section VI at Williamsville East High School, Vincenzo Giangreco (1g-4a), scored just twelve second into the game on a feed from John Harding (3g-1a).  After goals by Will Engle (1g) and Harding, the Quakers scored their first goal, at 4:12 when senior midfielder Mike Pietrantoni ripped a long shot from front center. McQuaid scored four more goals in less than a minute and a half and led at the end of the quarter 7-1. The Knights saw more than an equal share as the result of faceoffs by JP Giaqnforti (1g) and Domenic Giangreco (1a) who both recorded 7+/4- (64%).

McQuaid vs OPAfter Will DeMarco (2g-3g) scored on a pass from AJ Quagrello (3g-1a), Orchard Park scored their second goal on a drive from behind the cage by junior attackman Justin Relosky. The Quakers scored once more, with 22 seconds in the half as Logan Warn found Luke Danna on the wing and the half ended with the Knights up 8-3.

Dana scored again of OP at the top of the third on a feed from Owen Wright and a strong, outside sidearm shot taking the scored to 8-4, but shortly thereafter, McQuaid returned with three goals to end the quarter up 11-4. Both teams scored two goals in the last quarter. The knights now move on the NYS semifinals at SUNY Cortland on Wednesday where they will play Liverpool (Section III) at 4:00 PM. senior midfielder Liam Palmer (2g) also scored for McQuaid Jesuit (18-2). VICTOR-16 vs NIAGARA-WHEATFIELD-4 - Although the Falcons (11-7) scored the first goal in the game , the Blue Devils scored three before Niagara-Wheatfield scored again. The quarter saw Victor up 4-2 and then scored thirteen unanswered goals spanning the into the fourth quarter when they began running time. Victor will play Vestal (Section IV) at 5:30 on Wednesday. Senior midfielder Aiden Clinkscales (2g-2a) reached his 50th career goal and junior midfielder Mason Debottis (1g) scored his first Varsity goal in the game. Others scoring for Victor (17-3) were Jack Herendeen (4a), Christian Besaw (4g), Jackson Mead (4g), Brody Secker (3g-1a), Tanner Radogna (1g-1a), and Dante Pezzimenti (1a). Facing off for Victor was junior JT Ricci with 10+/2- = 83%, and 8th grade Eli Ricci with 8+/0- = 100%. In the goal for Victor was senior Parker Erwin with 3s/2ga = 60% (36 mins), and junior Landon Tantillo with 4s/0ga = 100% (7 mins). Victor vs Niagara WheatfieldAQUINAS-18 vs CHENANGO VALLEY-6 - Aquinas whose seven seniors had graduation ceremonies in the morning, went right to work ending the first quarter up 6-1 and then added another six goals to lead at the half 12-3. Junior attackman Noah Olbrich (2g) reached his 150th career goal in the game. Others making the offensive book for Aquinas (16-5) include Tano Auriuso (5g-3a), Jake Guggino (4g),Dom Siesto (2a), Ethan Copeland (2g), Gio Valerie, and Carter Wegman (3g). In the goal for Aquinas was sophomore Jake Gibson with 7s/6ga = 54% (48 mins).Next up for Aquinas is the semifinal round at SUNY Cortland at 3:00 where they will play Marcellus (Section III). Victor vs Niagara WheatfieldHFL-15 at JOHNSON CITY-4 - Nine different players scored goals for HFL including Quinn Kailbourne (1g-5a) reached his 50th career assist. The Cougars held the Wildcats scoreless in the first half while scoring fourteen of their own. The second half started in running time, but the Cougars scored only one more goal, while the Wildcats scored four. Others scoring for HFL (19-2) were Chase Perryman (2g-5a), Grady Goodberlet (4g-1a),Mathew Brassie (1g), Patrick Donahoe (1g), Owen Smith (3g), Marco Vengoechea (1g-1a), Alex Steinhoff (1a), and Madut Mathuc (1g). Facing off for HFL was Ben Cook with 2+/1- = 67%, and Carsen Montone with 13+/7- = 65% and in the goal freshman Jason Bennett recorded 4s/0ga = 100% (24 mins) including his 100th career save.HFL will take on Jamesville-DeWitt in the semifinal round at SUNY Cortland (6:30 PM). # 3510  McQuaid Jesuit Wins First Block

McQuaid Jesuit scored the final four goals of the game spanning the entire second half to secure their first ever Section Five Title.  The Black Knights Penf vs McQuaidhave been to the Finals three times in program history (including last year's 9-5 loss vs. Pittsford), but this was their first time taking home the Title.  The game was a defensive battle with McQuaid Jesuit winning 6-4 over Penfield.  Penfield sophomore goalie Mason Schembri and McQuaid Jesuit senior goalie Will Gordon were both named to the All-Tournament team.  Schembri finished with 10 saves and Gordon finished with 7 saves.  Offensively, Adam Schembri (2g-1a) led for the Patriots and John Harding (2a) led for the Knights.  Both were named to the All-Tournament team with Harding being named the Class A MVP.

Penf vs McQuaidThe game started off with Penfield scoring back-to-back goals.  Schembri assisted the first goal with Christian Brown (1g-1a) scoring.  Three minutes later, he scored the goal with an outside shot that found the back of the net.  McQuaid Jesuit responded with two of their own to the tie the game at 2-2.  The first was scored by JP Gianforti and the second by Will DiMarco.  DiMarco scored his goal after scooping up the ball on the crease and finished into the back of the net.  The Patriots added one more goal before the end of the quarter.  Ethan Aust scored with a feed from Zach Shores.  The Patriots led 3-2 after twelve minutes.

Penf vs McQuaidIn the second quarter, Penfield scored the only goal.  Schembri scored with an assist from Brown; Brown fed the ball into a tight crease and Schembri was able to score with an underhand shot.  Penfield extended their lead to 4-2 going into halftime.

The second half belonged to the Knights.  McQuaid Jesuit scored four unanswered goals to take their first lead of the game and secure the win.  Three of the four goals were scored in the third quarter.  All three goals were assisted and the culmination of multiple quick passes.  The first ended with AJ Quagrello assisting Will Engle.  Harding assisted the second and third goals with feeds to Ryan Woodard and Domenic Giangreco. Penf vs McQuaid Giangreco, a sophomore, finished the game with 1g; however, he was demonstrative in getting the Knights the ball during the face-off draw.  McQuaid Jesuit led 5-4 after three quarters. The lone goal of the fourth quarter was scored with a drive along the top of the restraining line by Vincenzo Giangreco.  McQuaid Jesuit will move on to the NY State Tournament this weekend.

Additional players named to the All-Tournament team included Luke Fliss (Pittsford), Mitchell Monte (Fairport), Gianforti (McQuaid Jesuit), Will Engel (McQuaid Jesuit), Ryan Bowerman (Penfield), Ethan Aust (Penfield).

DAY IN REVIEW: THURSDAY - There were thirteen games played today and four were close ones. Thomas defeated Rush-Henrietta by a score of 10-9. Marcus Whitman was a 11-10 winner over Bloomfield-Honeoye. Midlakes-Red Jacket defeated Gates Chili by a score of 7-5 and Mynderse defeated Jordan Elbridge (Section III) by a score of 5-3.

DAY IN REVIEW: THURSDAY - There were 12 games played today and a couple were close ones. Newark was a 7-6 winner over Midlakes-Red Jacket. Irondequoit defeated Pittsford by a score of 7-6. Hilton and Thomas played a close game until the last quarter when the Cadets took off. CA was a 10-6 winner over Penfield and Marcus Whitman was a 10-7 winner over Gananda.
