# 3521  GVLOA Honors Team Sportsmanship

The Genesee Valley Lacrosse Officials Association (GVLOA) provides officials for all of the the boys lacrosse teams in Section V and recently handed out their annual Steven R. Morgan Sportsmanship Awards to one team in each Class.

The award is given to a team that exemplifies sportsmanship at the coaches’ level, the players level, and the fans level.  Officials vote after every game by the officials at the game. Peter McCabe, newly elected President, made presentations for GVLOA.

The Class A award was given to Fairport and Head Coach Mike Torrelli. The Class B award was given to Gate Chili and Head Coach Cam Gormel. The Class C award was given to Batavia-Notre Dame and Head Coach Jim Dillon and the Class D award was given to Aquinas and Head Coach Tarry Corcoran and accepted by the team captains.

Last year, Coach Cam Gormel was hoping to build, but his Monroe County D2 schedule was brutal with losses to Penfield, Thomas, Brighton, Schroeder and Canandaigua. His D3 schedule this year may help the Spartans with games agaist East United/Eastridge and Brockport.

# 3193  Class B - Canandaigua, Victor, and Thomas in 2022

There are ten teams in Class B this year and all teams can play in the tournament which will start with out-bracket games on May 23rd this year. As of March 17th, the coaches poll predicts that Canandaigua will play Victor or Thomas in the championship game. The first complete poll will be posted on April 3rd.

During their first season in Monroe County Division I, the Spartans finished 0-6 in league and 3-13 overall. Gates Chili was seeded twelfth in the tournament; however, they defeated higher seeded Brockport 9-7 to make it into the quarter finals where they lost to Schroeder.

A strong fourth quarter gave McQuaid Jesuit an 8-7 win over Penn Yan. James Sturnick dodged across the middle for the winning goal. In other action HFL defeated Churchville-Chili 9-8, Spencerport beat the Thunder 9-7, Pal-Mac won a 9-8 game with Midlakes.

Sixteen games but three went to double overtime. HF-L beat Schroeder 8-7, Pittsford beat Thomas 13-12 and McQuaid Jesuit beat Livonia 7-6, each in the second overtime period.

Thirteen games were played in Section Five today. Fairport was a 15-6 winner over visiting Thomas and Pittsford defeated visiting Irondequoit 11-5. In other action Livonia won their game with Haverling in overtime, McQuaid Jesuit beat Aquinas 13-8 and Churchville-Chili beat Hilton in a close one (9-7).

# 2119  Tuesday: Out bracket Games for A and C - Gates Upsets Brockport

here were two upsets in the Class A out bracket as the 12th seeded Gates Chili beat the 5th seeded Brockport and the 9th seeded Hilton upset the 8th seeded Rush-Henrietta. Schroeder, Churchville and penfield all won their games as seeded. In Class C all the higher seeded teams won. Moving on are Batavia, Geneva, Midlakes, Haverling and Pal-Mac.

Ithaca (Section IV) used overtime to defeat Irondequoit 7-6 this afternoon. Other close games included Penfield 8-7 over Hilton, Pal-Mac 6-5 over Midlakes, Pittsford 8-6 over McQuaid Jesuit and Gates Chili 6-4 over Spencerport. Other winners included Aquinas, Mynderse, Penn Yan and Canandaigua.

Although a number of games resulted in blowouts today, two were settled in overtime and two others were very close. Churchville-Chili was a 9-8 ot winner against Gates Chili, and Aquinas was a 10-9 ot winner against McQuaid Jesuit in GRALL Play.

The All Star list is out recognizing the Monroe County League players for the 2008 season. Senior attackmen Connor Rice (Penfield), Greg Wright (Irondequoit) and junior Drew Coholan (Irondequoit) were selected as USLAcrosse All Americans.

Pittsford had a 12-8 win over R-H, Penn Yan beat Pal-Mac, Victor was (10-7) over Waterloo and McQuaid Jesuit was a winner over BH. HFL beat Eastridge 5-4 and Aquinas beat Haverling 14-6.
