Tuesday: Livonia-Avon vs Penn Yan 6:00 PM

Livonia-Avon vs Penn YanFirst up is the Class D game where top seeded Livonia-Avon will face second seeded Penn Yan at 6:00.

The Lakers are currently 13-5 after defeating fourth seeded Aquinas in the semi finals with a dramatic 15-14  finish

Senior Justin Skelly has 50g-19a, senior attackman Derick Wigley with 39g-22a, Matthew Connor with 23g-31a, senior midfielder Shane Malead with  39g-11a, and junior midfielder Christian Rumfola with 20g-14a. Although four players have taken faceoffs this year, Connor has taken the most and as won 175 of 251 (70%). He leads the team in ground balls with 182. Junior goalie Matt Beachel had recorded 134 save (52%)

The Lakers have never won a sectional championship, but they came close last year when as, the top seed, lost to HF-L. They have only played Penn Yan three times, the most recent last year. They have not yet beaten them, but this year could be their best shot to date.

Penn Yan enters the finals at 12-4. They average 10.4 goals per game while giving up and average of 6.4.Seven players have at least twenty points this year with freshman Teagan Fingar leading the team with 40g-22a. Junior midfielder Carter Earl has 34g-19a, eighth grade attackman Tukker Fisher has 19g-18a, junior attackman Frank Ochoa has 27g-4a, Penn_Yan_Earl_T_Fingareighth grade midfielder Braden Finger has 13g-15a, sophomore midfielder Bryant VanHousen has 19g-8a, and junior midfielder Caden Dixon has 20g-6a. Senior goalkeeper Griffin Emerson provides strong leadership over the largely underclass group of starters. With 132 saves this season (59%) he has had four 100% performances and only three games under 50%.

Penn Yan has won twenty-five Section Five titles and the last time they lost was to Aquinas in 2010. The Mustangs certainly have experience, know how to win big games, and have grown significantly over the course of the season. They are ready to defend their title, but the Lakers are riding high and scoring lots of goals, so this could be a good game well worth the price of admission.

Tuesday: Pal-Mac vs HF-L 8:30 PM

Penfield vs FairportBecause the HF-L girls team also made their championship game, the times were moved so that families and fans could see both games.

In the 8:30 matchup, top-seeded Pal-Mac will play third-seeded Honeoye Falls-Lima for the Class C Championship.

The Red Raiders are currently 14-1 with their only loss to Irondequoit early in the season. They have won eleven games since. Pal-Mac averages 14.3 goals per game while allowing 7.9.

In 2017 they beat HF-L 16-11. They have played each other a total of four times and the Red Raiders have won three. The most recent was a 12-5 win in 2021.

Honeoye Falls-LIma won their first championship last year when they defeated Livonia-Avon 18-10. They enter this game with a record of 10-8 after winning their semifinal game with Wayne. The Cougars have scored 187 goals (10.4 ave) and have allowed 121 goals against (6.7 ave).

Senior M/A David Brassie has 15g-48a, freshman midfielder Quinn Kailbourne has 26g-8a, freshman attackman Matthew Brassie has 21g-10a, and  sophomore faceoff midfielder Drew Angelo has 12g-8a, 171 gbs and has won 249 draws (76%). Junior goalie Trevor Reese has made 142 saves (54%).

Faceoffs will be fun to watch. Both Nolan and Angelo have studied with TD Ierlan and both teams are used to getting the ball time that top faceoff men give their teams. The Red Raiders have many scoring players and goals can come from anywhere on the offensive end of the field, but HF-L also has players who have shown they can score. Determination will play a big role for the winner of this game.
