Canandaigua has reached the Sectional Championship game 13 times and Churchville-Chili has only reached it once and the Braves demonstrated tonight that they know how to win in Sectionals. The Braves defeated the Saints 14-12 after trailing 0-4 in the first quarter. Churchville-Chili kept the game close throughout but the Braves took over the lead in the third quarter and didn't relinquish it for the final 16:51. Over the course of the game there were twelve penalties (eleven attempts) with six resulting in goals. Churchville-Chili scored on all four of their man-up attempts and Canandaigua scored on two of their seven attempts.

Senior attackman Brian Feldman took the majority of the shots for the Braves. He finished with seventeen shots (eleven on cage) and had four goals. He took 41% of the shots for Canandaigua. Senior Midfielder Eric Munn was the major offensive threat for the Braves. He finished with 5g-4a. Only two other players scored for the Braves with Mitchell Schaefer adding 3g and Connor Hulme adding 2g-3a. Face off midfielder Nick Johnson finished at 55% for Canandaigua (16/29). He also led in ground balls with eight. Munn and defenseman Joe Eddinger added five each. Between the pipes, Ethan Lincoln and Tim Rice split halves. Lincoln finished with seven saves in the first half and Rice finished with 4 saves (50%) in the second half.

The Saints had their scoring much more spread out. They had seven players make their offensive book with attackman Trevor Hodgins finishing with 4g and sophomore midfielder Jason Tebo finishing with 3g. Attackmen Aaron Buck (2g-1a) and Ryan Cosgrove (1g-2a) also added points the totals. Face off midfielder Mike Caternolo finished with a team leading seven ground balls. Goalie Mike Yehl and midfielder Cameron Shipley added four ground balls each for the Saints. In the cage, Mike Yehl played the majority of the game and accumulated 11 saves. Jamie Cullen came in during a penalty and made 1 save.

Churchville-Chili came out the gate swinging with a goal from Caternolo directly off the face off only 0:07 into the game. The Saints added three more with Buck scoring (assisted from Cosgrove) during man-up and Hodgins scoring back to back unassisted goals with drives from behind the cage. The Saints led 4-0 with 7:54 remaining in the first quarter. Canandaigua scored the next five goals. They scored three to end the first quarter and the first two in the second quarter. Feldman scored the first three goals to finish out the first quarter. The first was scored during a fast-break with an assist from Munn. The second goal was scored when he faked coming out on substitution and beat his man back to the ball and the cage. The third came with a cross crease feed from Hulme. Even after the flurry of scoring, Churchville-Chili still led 4-3 at the end of the first quarter.

Canandaigua scored two goals in the first 0:29 of the second quarter with back to back face-off fast-breaks. The first was scored by Schaefer and the second by Munn. Canandaigua took their first lead with 11:31 remaining in the second quarter. Churchville-Chili came back over the next five minutes and scored three goals. Hodgins scored another unassisted goal off a drive from behind the cage to tie the game. Alex Goodermote scored a man-up goal with a feed from Jake Mortier. Three minutes later Tebo scored with a drive down the left side. The Braves scored the next goal as Hulme came cutting up along the crease and Munn found him at GLE. Tebo scored his second unassisted goal with only 0:30 left in the half. Canandaigua took the ensuing face with Johnson picking up his own ground ball. He then sent the ball down to Munn, who continued it along the outside to Schaefer with only 0:14 remaining. The game was a one goal game going into halftime (8-7 Churchville-Chili).

The third quarter was really the turning point of the game with Canandaigua scoring five and holding Churchville-Chili to only two goals. Another man-up goal for Churchville-Chili started the quarter with Cosgrove scoring (assisted by Goodermote). Canandaigua scored the next four unanswered goals to go from trailing by two goals to leading by two goals. Hulme, Schaefer and Munn (2) scored for the Braves. The fourth goal was scored with 1:58 remaining. Munn took the ball to the outside and drove straight to the cage forcing himself past a triple team. Churchville-Chili scored their first goal in eight minutes with Hodgins picking up a loose ball on the crease and crossing it to Buck. Buck dodged his defenseman and scored unassisted with 0:44 remaining. Canandaigua added the last goal of the quarter with another face off goal, this time from Munn. Munn took a hard shot that dribbled past Yehl with 0:31 remaining on the clock. Canandaigua led 12-10 going into the final quarter.

Both teams added two goals in the fourth quarter, but Churchville-Chili never tied the game. Three of the final four goals were scored during man-up offense. The opening goal was scored by Feldman with an assist from Hulme. Feldman scored with an outside shot during a circle man-up offense. Churchville-Chili came back and scored the next two goals. Tebo scored (with an assist from Cosgrove) and Hodgins scored (with an assist from Buck). The final goal of the game was scored by Munn after receiving an inside feed from Hulme during another man-up set. The Saints did not get another shot at the goal and didn't take any shots for the last 6:51. Canandaigua kept up the pressure and Yehl recorded four of his eleven saves in the final five minutes of play.

With the win, Canandaigua returns to the Finals for the third consecutive year. Tuesday's contest will feature a rematch of last year`s triple overtime Class B Final between Victor and Canandaigua. The Braves play the first game at Webster Schroeder on Tuesday at 3:45.
