Team Dynamics and Key Players

Despite losing five seniors to graduation, including standout defensemen Sean Baird and Conor Morgan, as well as stellar goalie Taylor Kaye, the team retains a robust core. Junior midfielder Zach Tortora, who scored 39 goals and 25 assists last season, will spearhead the Midfield and has already committed to Canisius College. Attackman Jayden Mandarano (33 goals, 28 assists) and midfielder Zachary Ajavananda (25 goals, 12 assists) will also play pivotal roles, adding depth and experience to the offense. On the defensive side, returning senior Talen Kanaley and Sophomore Brody Kaye will be instrumental in maintaining a sturdy backline. Brody earned All-League 2nd Team honors as a long-stick midfielder (LSM), showcasing his versatility.

Statistical Insights

In 2024, Spencerport was a team that thrived in closely contested games, with ten of their matches decided by five goals or fewer. They boasted a balanced offensive and defensive output, averaging 7.6 goals per game while allowing 6.4 goals against. The team's ability to clinch tight games (winning three by a single goal) underscores their resilience and mental toughness.

Coach Buttaro's Vision

Under the guidance of Head Coach Bill Buttaro, now entering his sixth season with a commendable 46-23 record, the Rangers have evolved into a formidable unit. Coach Buttaro's experience as a former high school lacrosse player at Irondequoit provides him with some insight needed to navigate the challenges of the season. His focus will undoubtedly be on leveraging the team's returning 99% of goals and assists from last year to maintain their offensive prowess.

"Our team is young, but at the same time we have been young and hungry every year since I got here in 2019. Last year our offense was young, while our defense had multiple 3 year starters; this year it's the opposite. I am really looking forward to watching our offense take the next steps and our young defense mature throughout the season."

Looking Ahead

With a strong group of rising seniors and a promising mix of juniors and sophomores, the Spencerport Boys Lacrosse team is well-positioned to make them a team to watch in the competitive landscape of Class B lacrosse.
