Milestones, Streaks and Comebacks Highlight Busy Thursday

DAY IN REVIEW: THURSDAY - It was a busy Thursday evening with eight games decided. Irondequoit edged Schroeder 12-11 in a fourth-quarter thriller, Geneva P{enfield at Victorrolled past Greece Storm 18-7 behind big nights from Ryland Dunham and Ben Budgar, and East United-Eastridge survived a Gates Chili comeback to win 10-9 on the strength of Brien Walker's four goals. Bloomfield-Honeoye won their game with Brayden Arber recording his 100th career point, Churchville-Chili topped Wayne 10-7 with Cooper Lass leading the way with four goals, and Pittsford used a fast start, including three goals in under two minutes, to pull away from Hilton 15-7. Brighton opened its season with a win over Rush-Henrietta highlighted by seventh grader Red Wolk's first varsity goal and assist, while Victor held off Penfield 11-8 with Eli Ricci's five goals and 73% face-off rate powering the comeback win.

SCHROEDER-11 at IRONDEQUOIT-12 - Irondequoit opened its Monroe County D-2 season with a 12-11 win over Schroeder on Thursday, pulling away with a 4-3 fourth quarter after the teams were tied at six at halftime and Schroeder held a one-goal lead after three. Sophomore Kieran Stenzel and senior Cooper Moore each scored four goals for the Eagles, with Dylan Carey adding three assists, while Schroeder's sophomore Kai P{enfield at VictorNelson, recording his first varsity goal and assist, and junior JD Stockmann (one goal, three assists) led the Warriors' offense. Junior Brady Mason and sophomore Nelson each reached individual milestones with their first varsity goals, but Irondequoit's sixth straight win over Schroeder pushed the all-time series to 24-9.[ Story and BOX SCORE

RUSH-HENRIETTA-4 at BRIGHTON-17 -  Brighton opened its season with a 17-4 non-league win over Rush-Henrietta, getting contributions from eight different scorers led by sophomore Austin Flaum (four goals, three assists), junior Quinn Huefner (three goals, first varsity goal), and seventh grader Red Wolk, who scored two goals and one assist for his first varsity goal and first varsity assist. Senior Gavin Hayslip controlled the face-off X at 88%, and the win gives Brighton the series lead for the first time at eight wins against seven for Rush-Henrietta dating back to 2003. GENEVA-18 at GREECE STORM-7 - Geneva opened its season Thursday with an 18-7 non-league win over Greece Storm, jumping out to a seven-goal first quarter lead and never looking back, with senior Ryland Dunham (five goals, three assists), senior Ben Budgar (four goals, four assists), and junior Jack Dunham (four goals, two assists) powering the offense. Greece Storm's senior James Maccallini led his team with three goals P{enfield at Victorand senior Eric Odell, who won 21 of 23 face-offs, added two goals, but the Storm could not overcome the early deficit and fell to 0-2 on the season.    [ Story and BOX SCORE

GATES CHILI-9 at EAST UNITED-EASTRIDGE-10 - East United-Eastridge held off Gates Chili 10-9 Thursday in a back-and-forth non-league game that saw the Spartans storm back from a two-nothing deficit to tie it at halftime before East United-Eastridge pulled ahead again in the third quarter. Brien Walker led the winners with four goals and two assists, while Gates Chili's Joshua Yakowitz answered with five goals and one assist, and sophomore Colin Mancuso, who scored his first varsity goal and won 70% of his face-offs, gave the Spartans a strong night despite the one-goal loss that leaves them at 0-2 on the season.   [ Story and BOX SCORE

PENFIELD-8 at VICTOR-11 - Victor rallied from a first-quarter deficit to beat Penfield 11-8 Thursday evening in non-league play, with sophomore Eli Ricci leading the way with five goals and a 73% face-off rate, junior Jackson Mead adding three goals, and sophomore Lincoln Snyder scoring his first varsity goal in the win. BATAVIA-NOTRE DAME-2 at BLOOMFIELD-HONEOYE-17 - Bloomfield-Honeoye rolled to a 17-2 non-league win over Batavia-Notre Dame, scoring seven first-quarter goals and cruising from there to stay undefeated at 2-0 and extend their all-P{enfield at Victortime series lead to six wins and no losses. WAYNE-7 at CHURCHVILLE-CHILI-10 - Churchville-Chili earned a 10-7 non-league win over Wayne on Thursday evening, using a four-goal second quarter to build a lead they would hold the rest of the way. Senior Cooper Lass paced the Saints with four goals, Isaac Bailey added two goals and a 61% face-off rate, while Wayne's junior Shane Coleman scored three goals and one assist and freshman goalie Gavin Hamel made 18 saves for a 64% save rate, but it wasn't enough as Churchville-Chili extended their series lead to three wins against two for Wayne.  [ Story and BOX SCORE

HILTON-7 at PITTSFORD-15 - Pittsford used a fast start, including three goals in under two minutes in the first quarter and a five-goal run, to pull away from Hilton 15-7 Thursday evening in non-league play. Jahyden Maiorani and Max Morgenstern each scored three goals to lead the Panthers, while Hilton's Tyler Reger paced the Cadets with two goals and one assist and junior defenseman Logan Cady scored his first varsity goal, with sophomore goalie Brendan Maxwell turning away all 13 shots he faced in a 100% save performance that wasn't enough to overcome Pittsford's early advantage. There was no report from Pittsford (2-0) at post-time.    [ Story and BOX SCORE
