The 2022 Section V Player of the year honors were announced at the end of the Section V Championship games. The winners were Quinn Nolan from Pal-Mac, Eric Platten from Canandaigua and Curtis Denison from Geneva.

Offensive Player of the Year

Quinn Nolan - Pal-Mac Senior

Pal-Mac senior faceoff specialist, Quinn Nolan was named the Offensive Player of the Year. Taking 311 faceoffs this season for the Red Raiders, the St. Bonaventure commit won a remarkable 87%, winning 271 and losing only 40. In addition, as a "regular" midfielder, he scored 42g-23a and picked up 275 gbs.

Coach Joe Hill says: "Quinn is an elite face-off player that will continue playing and schooling at Division I St. Bonaventure next year. He received a full academic/athletic scholarship, and will be majoring in Finance. He is a rare mix of size, speed and intelligence and he stays on the as one of our top Midfielders. Quinn has never been or wanted to be a FOGO, he wants to stay and play and never leave the field. He has been our face-off midfielder since 8th grade."

Quinn has been selected as a USA Lacrosse All-American by the coaches of Section V.

Defensive Player of the Year

Eric Platten - Canandaigua Senior

A senior defenseman, Eric Platten played on the Blue Devil Varsity team as a freshman and is a two-time first team All-League pick and a two-time USA All American. Eric was named the Monroe County D2 Player of the Year and was named to the Class B All-Tournament team this spring.

Head Coach Deven York says: "Eric is a generational talent in my opinion. His commitment to the game and his teammates is unrivaled."

"He works in the weight room year round to be at his best. He watches countless hours of film. No task is too small for Eric and he leads by example. I can put Eric on the best player in the league and know that he will be stopped."

"Such a pleasure to coach a kid you NEVER have to worry about on and off the field."

Next fall, Eric will attend Yale University to study and play lacrosse.

Sportsman of the Year

Curtis Denison - Geneva Senior

Coach Jeff Dunham says: ‘Curtis Denison, as a freshman in 2019, helped to lead Geneva to a Sectional title, scoring 30 goals and 39 points as a 9th grader. Little did Curtis know an unimaginable storm of woes awaited, so much so that 1,019 days passed before he stepped on a lacrosse field for Geneva again. A left-leg ACL tear, a pandemic-canceled season, a right-leg ACL tear and a 70-pound weight loss awaited him prior to this season."

"Through all of this adversity, Curtis continued to work diligently academically and in the weight room. He excelled in the classroom with a 93% GPA, taking a number of AP and Gemini college courses. Additionally, Curtis recognized that his size was a major factor in his ACL tears. Standing at 6'5" and weighing close to 300lbs took a major toll on his body. Following his 2nd ACL tear, Curtis put in tremendous hours working off the weight and changed his diet dramatically. The effect, Curtis lost 70lbs."
