Burke scored the first goal of the game during an unsettled fast-break down the left side of the field with 6:26 remaining in the opening quarter. Fairport came back with a goal of their own one minute later. Stephen Danylyshyn scored his first goal on a feed from Andrew Hays. Hays passed the ball to open air, and Danylyshyn cut to the perfect spot on the crease to catch the ball and score. Pittsford scored one minute later on Matt Gold's first goal. Gold scored on a straight drive along GLE. The Panthers led 2-1 after the first quarter.

Each team added a single goal in the second quarter. Pittsford scored first to increase their lead to 3-1. Gold scored (his second goal) with a drive from the top of the restraining line. He ran down the left side and put a side-arm shot right over the stick-side shoulder of Blaze Riorden in the Fairport cage. Riorden finished with eight saves for the Red Raiders. Fairport's second goal was scored during a fast-break. Brian Martin scored unassisted coming straight down the field himself. The first half ended with a Pittsford leading 3-2.

In the third quarter, Fairport tied up the game. Pittsford, once again, scored first to increase their lead to two goals again. Corey Parke scored after a bad bounce off Riorden. He initially stopped the ball, but was unable to control it after it hit the turf and the ball went just over the plane. Fairport's Danylyshyn scored both the Red Raider goals in the third quarter to tie the game. His Fairport at Pittsfordfirst goal was scored during a fast-break. Martin picked up a loose ball in their defense end and cleared the ball up the field. He then passed to James Manilla who kept the ball going to GLE and then to Danylyshyn. His second goal was scored "hockey style". After the ball was stopped by Quinn in the cage, it became loose in front of the net. Danylyshyn swung at the ball on the turf and propelled it into the back of the net. The score was tied at 4-4 at the end of the third quarter.

Fairport did not score in the final quarter. Pittsford dominated at the face-off and controlled the ball nearly the entire quarter. The turning point in the game came with 9:23 remaining in the final quarter. Gold scored his third goal (of only five so far) on a drive from behind the cage. One minute later, midfielder Matt Palmer intercepted a clearing pass by Fairport and took it all the way back to the goal. Pittsford scored again only 0:19 later. After a dead ball restart, Albie DiPasquale drove to the goal and put it in the back of the net. Pittsford had a three goal lead after less than a minute and a half. After that, Pittsford went into hold mode. They contained the ball through a number of "keep it in" calls. The Panthers added two goals after Fairport went into a press. Burke scored the first and assisted the second. Aycock scored the final goal of the game into an empty net.

Fairport outshot Pittsford 33-28. Derek DeJoe led Fairport in shooting. He took nine shots (5 on cage) but was unable to get them by Quinn.
