Preseason Report: Eastridge, GC and Geneva

EASTRIDGE

Eastridge was 4th in Monroe County-2 with a 2-8 record (2-15 over all) with two wins against Greece.

The Lancers were seeded 6th in the Class B Tournament and lost in a close quarter final game to Victor (11-10).

Junior midfielder, Kevin Kimber and junior goalie Mike Matteo received first team all league honors in MC-2.

Eight seniors graduated in 2004 including attackmen Jesse Alaimo (FLCC) and Dan Driffill.

The high point in a very long season must have been the last game of 2004 when the Lancers lost in an 11-10 sectional game against Victor. Although they lost Alaimo and Drifill in attack the Lancers still have goalie Mike Matteo in the nets and seniors Joe Staszczyk and Luis Aloma in front of him. Seniors Kevin Kimber, Mike Passantino and junior Sean Sawyer return in the midfield while seniors Brian Sutton and Nick Savine return to the attack. With experienced players and Matteo in the goal, the Lancers should show an improvement in their MC-2 division record.

Geneva ended in 3rd place in the Finger Lakes 1 league with a 2-6 league record and at 10-9 over all.

Seeded 3rd in the Class C tournament, the Panthers lost (12-10) to Penn Yan in the finals. Matt Warner (11th - mid), Luke Bonney (12th - Att), Craig McDonald (11th - Def) and Dan Rago (12th - Mid) were named to the All Tournament Team.

Six players graduated including David Gillotte (def) (Alfred St.), Andrew Shamy (mid) (FLCC) and Craig McDonald (def) (Albany) who was named to the All America Team, first team All League and All Tournament Teams. Luke Bonney (att) was named to the Academic All America Team as well as Section Five and All League teams. Dan Rago (mid) (Alfred State) was also an All Tournament Team selection.

Geneva is loaded with seniors this year and many with good experience. The Panthers will have seniors Matt Warner, Henry Heaton, Carson Poole, Jake Queener and Mark Bloom all returning to the midfield. Seniors Mike and Chris Toner will return with sophomore Greg Bonney in the attack and seniors Dutchie Venuti and Jason Edwards will rejoin sophomore Andy Torruella in the defense. Senior Goalie Nick Sharman is expect in the goal. The returning Panthers should have the maturity to make up for the loss of All American defenseman, Craig McDonald and the offensive power of players like Rago and Bonney.

First year Head Coach LJ Russell who has had many years of experience as an assistant has added some tough non-league games in the form of Section three teams Henninger and CNS and will play Class A schools, Pittsford and McQuaid Jesuit as well. A number of Finger Lakes coaches pick Geneva as a top team this year.
