Getting Ready for Tournament Seeding

 SPORTSFIVE REPORT:

Heading into the final week of the regular season, thoughts turn to tournament seeding. The seeding for all four teams will be posted late Friday night, but, just for fun, let`s see what we know as of May 13th.

StatsThere are thirty-six teams playing in the tournaments this year (everyone qualifies). The teams played most of their games against Section Five teams, but there are games with thirty-nine out of section teams. As of Sunday, sixty-four games have been played with out of section teams and Section Five has won 59% of them. There are five more games to be played this week.

Seeding is based on the FINAL team record. Points are earned by the quality of each opponent, so that, for example, if a team beats a team that has a winning percentage of 75% or better, the team earns 10 points. If they lose to that team they earn 4 points. Read about the procedure here.

The term "Locked team" is used to describe at team whose record is not set. That is, the games left to be played with not affect the points that a team gives their opponent. A "bubble" team is one who remaining games will affect their final record. Winning or losing may affect the number of points they will give their opponent. For example, if a team has a current record of 6-8 with two games left, they could win both games and end with an 8-8 record. If they do that, they will give their opponents 8 points for a win and 3 points for a loss. If they lose one or both of the remaining games they will give their opponents 6 points of a win and 2 points for a loss.

So, as of Sunday, May 13th, there are 43 locked teams and 32 bubble teams. By mid-week, there will be far less bubble teams, but before the final seeding is done, in all likelihood, the scheduled games on Friday will have to be played.

How close are the teams in each class. Take a look at the just for fun listing
