Victor Heads to Finals for Seventh Straight Year

- Second seeded Victor held off a late push by third seeded Brighton 10-9.  The Blue Devils took control early and held it for a huge chunk of the game.  They led by four goals with four minutes remaining in regulation.  Brighton scored four goals in last four minutes (with Victor adding one of their own) to pull within one goal two different times.  Victor advances to the Sectional Finals for the Seventh straight season.

The Barons scored the game opener five minutes into the play with Sam Tourangeau scoring unassisted with a hard outside shot from midrange.  The Barons held that lead for another four minutes before Victor got on the board.  The Blue Devils added two more goals to finish out the opening quarter.  Both goals were scored by Jack LaRue.  The first was scored during extra-man offense with Joey Pezzimenti feeding LaRue at the high right corner.  Just over a minute later, LaRue scored again off a feed from Camden Hay.  The first quarter ended with Victor leading 2-1.

In the second, Victor’s offense really stepped up.  The Blue Devils added four of the first five to take a 6-2 lead with just over three minutes remaining.  The Blue Devils first goal was scored with a drive along the left side by Hay.  Just over a minute later, Brighton scored their second goal with a drive up from GLE to the right flat by Lukas Stanat.  The Blue Devils kept up their pressure with three more goals.  Pezzimenti scored the first with a single dodge sweep across the top.  With 4:48 remaining, goalie Liam Haller took the ball all the way upfield and scored from 5 yards out.  The fourth Blue Devil goal of the quarter was scored off a feed from Hay.  Hay backed into a double and then dropped the ball overtop of the defender to Alec Russell.  Brighton came back with two goals before the end of the half.  The first was scored with 1:25 remaining when Najeeb Awad fed Owen Ronchetti near the top of the restraining line.  Ronchetti, stepped in front of his defense and turned to the cage.  Less than a minute later, Brighton scored again with a feed from behind by Casey McDermott to Olin Stanat.  The Blue Devils held the 6-4 lead going into the break.

The third quarter started off with a Brighton goal.  The Barons scored with a shot from the right flat by Owen Ronchetti off a feed from Awad.  Less than a minute later, Victor responded with an outside shot by Andrew Nicolella (assisted by Pezzimenti).  After a deadball foul, Victor kept the ball.  Their offense took two shots that were both saved by Brighton goalie Alexander Butcher.  Butcher finished the game with 13 saves.  The Blue Devils held possession for the next few minutes, both taking time off the clock and occasionally taking shots at the cage.  They capped the possession with a goal from Russell unassisted with 4:34 left on the clock.  Victor held the 8-5 lead after three quarters.

Victor scored the opening goal of the fourth quarter beginning with a dodge from Russell from the back right behind the cage.  Russell came to the crease and crossed a pass to the other side to TJ Brei.  Brei was stationed across the crease and finished into the back of the net.  Brighton scored their first goal of the quarter with 3:53 remaining with a single dodge from Olin Stanat. The Barons scored again with 1:24 left with a fast-break drive down the side by Tourangeau.  The next face-off gave Brighton another chance.  They took the ball and pressed to the restraining line where L. Stanat shot a hard outside shot to pull within one.  The Blue Devils won the next face-off and called a timeout.  They took control on their offensive side with 0:50 left on the clock.  Instead of running out the clock, Pezzimenti scored into an open net to go back up by two.  On the next draw, Victor won again; however, the Baron defense pressed the ball and created an unsettled situation.  O. Stanat scored off a feed from L. Stanat to once again pull within one.  The Barons had one more chance on offense but Sutton Boland came up with a big take as time counted down.  The Blue Devils will face Canandaigua in the Finals on Wednesday at 7:30.
