The 2011 Section Five Tournaments are now underway with twelve out bracket games played today. There were two upsets in the seeding as, in Class A, #9 Greece Thunder beat #8 Greece Lightning 11-9. In Class C, #9 Mynderse won a 15-13 victory over #8 Marcus Whitman.

There were sixteen games played in the Section today and a number of very exciting ones including a 7-6 win for Fairport over Penfield with no time left on the clock. Haverling took Aquinas in double overtime and Marcus Whitman beat Mynderse in the first overtime period.

It was a long awaited match up and at the last moment, moved from Pittsford Mendon to St. John Fisher College, where the stands were nearly full. The Panthers scored five unanswered goals in the fourth quarter for secure a 9-4 win over Fairport.

McQuaid Jesuit came out strong in the first half and then held on through a second half surge by Timon/St Jude (Section VI) to take a 7-6 win in Buffalo. Rush-Henrietta beat Hilton 13-10 in the opening game for new Head Coach Dave Moore. Other winners were, Canandaigua, Haverling, Livonia and Pal-Mac.

n the nicest game day of the season , thus far, There were lots of games and a few surprises in the Section. Haverling won a 13-10 victory over Aquinas, Brighton scored five goals in the fourth quarter to take a 12-10 win from Rush-Henrietta.

During their first season in Monroe County Division I the Cadets finished 2-4 in league and 9-7 overall. Hilton, seeded ninth in the tournament, defeated higher seeded Rush-Henrietta in the first round 10-7 and then lost to Fairport in the quarter finals.

The All Star list is out recognizing the Monroe County League players for the 2010 season. Senior attackmen Brendan Saylor (Fairport) and Jack Hinderland (Thomas), senior goalie Nick King (Canandaigua) and Joe Dupra (Pittsford) were selected as USLAcrosse All Americans.

The Class A seeds fell as predicted, with Fairport, R-H, Penfield and Pittsford all winning and the Class C did the same with Aquinas, Bloomfield-Honeoye, Penn Yan and Geneva all winning as well. R-H played a close game with Webster Schroeder and had a five goal streak in the last nine minutes for the 12-9 win.

There were ten out bracket games played in the Section today and only one team that beat a higher seeded team. In the Class A bracket, Hilton (#9) beat Gates Chili (#8) and will play Fairport. Churchville-Chili be the Lightning and moves on to Pittsford.

There were fifteen games in Section Five today, as the regular season is winding down. Fairport hosted Pittsford and defeated the Panthers 13-5. Penfield defeated visiting Penn Yan 9-6, East Rochester beat Spencerport 11-10 and Bloomfield-Honeoye beat Mynderse 15-14.

James Sturnick scored in overtime to give McQuaid Jesuit an 8-7 victory at Pittsford. Penfield took a won goal, 9-8 win from Schroeder and Waterloo won a 13-12 game from Mynderse. The rest of the fifteen games in the Section were not so close.

The 'Lil Irish came back, late in the fourth quarter to force overtime where they defeated Haverling-Haverling in overtime this afternoon at Aquinas. Penfield held off a fired-up Rush-Henrietta and won their game 13-12 in regulation.

Pittsford played a close game with Brighton for a while, but took control in the fourth quarter and won 13-8 in the cold a windy late afternoon as Pittsford celebrated lacrosse with an all day lacrosse event at Mendon. Brighton was the last undefeated team in Section Five.

After 30 straight wins, Canandaigua lost in a close game to Webster Thomas, 11-10 this afternoon. The Titans overcame a 5-4 halftime score with a strong third quarter and determination in the last quarter with the winning goal by TJ Hauck with twenty-five second left the regulation.

There were fifteen games played today in Section Five, a couple of close ones but mostly mismatches. Eastridge won their first game of the season using double overtime to defeat the Thunder 11-10. East Rochester beat Newark 8-7. All the other games were won by six goals.

Brighton continued their unbeaten streak (7-0) with a 13-11 win over visiting Hilton. Pittsford scored the first two goals and went on to beat Aquinas 11-7. Livonia beat visiting Rush-Henrietta in a high scoring game, 17-14. Other winners today included Geneva, HFL, and McQuaid Jesuit.

Thomas won a contest of heavyweights with a 18-6 victory over visiting Irondequoit. Rush-Henrietta was a 13-11 winner over Gates Chili and HFL won their game 11-10 over Eastridge. Other winners on the last big night of games were Fairport, Brighton, Canandaigua, Brockport, Penn Yan, Batavia, Schroeder, C-C, Midlakes and Pal-Mac.

Hilton ended their league season third in Monroe County Division II with a 5-5 record (7-9 overall). Seeded twelfth in the Class A tournament the Cadets lost to Webster Thomas in the first round and finished as seeded. After the new league divisional orientation, Hilton has moved to Division I this season.

There were eleven games on an unusually beautiful March game day. Pittsford won a 6-5 game against Churchville-Chili, and Irondequoit won an 11-6 victory over Penfield, but the rest of the games were lopsided victories and six went into running time.
