# 2938  2019 All Tournament Teams

The All Tournament Teams for 2018 were announced at each final on Tuesday and Wednesday. The Most Valuable Player in Class A was Colin Peers (Fairport), in Class C, Sam Miller (Geneva), in Class D, Connor Fingar (Penn Yan) and in Class B, Jack LaRue (Victor). Players were selected on the basis of their performances in the Section Five Tournaments.

# 2922  Geneva Wins 2nd Straight Title

Geneva won their second back to back Class C Championship tonight against Wayne 10-1.  The Panthers defeated the Eagles 13-2 last year.  The Panthers were slowly plodding throughout the contest and added a few goals in each quarter.  Midfielder Sam Miller was named the Class C All Tournament MVP after a 3g-3a day (60% of all goals).  Additionally, goalie Brandon Wayne finished with an exceptional day, recording 13 saves.  Of those, 10 came in the first half while holding the Eagles scoreless during that period.  Both senior were instrumental in the success of the Panthers this season.

# 2872  Thomas Wins Part 2 at Wayne

Monday: DAY IN REVIEW: The second half of the Thomas at Wayne game was played tonight and the Titans, who led 5-4 when the game was suspended scored two goals in each of the remaining quarters to win 9-6. Sophomore attackman, Joe Russo led the Thomas book with 4g and junior offensiveman John Reagan led the Wayne book with 3g. Thomas plays Gates Chili on Tuesday and Wayne plays Mynderse.

# 2871  Thomas Holds Off Wayne

Thomas and Wayne played the conclusion of their match from April 16th today with the Titans winning 9-6.  Thomas scored five of the first seven goals to take an early lead that the Eagles could not fight back against.  This was only the second loss of the year for Wayne and first non-overtime loss.  With tonight’s win the Titans break a three game win-less streak, including an overtime loss to Fairport last week.

Thursday: DAY IN REVIEW: With 0:17 left in the first overtime period, senior midfielder Noah Germano scored to give the Warriors a 14-13 victory over Wayne. Josh Hauman led Schroeder with 5g-2a and Cole Bolin added 3g-2a. Andy Hamel (5g-1a) and John Reagan (2g-5a) led the Wayne offense. Wayne was the last undefeated team in the section.

# 1429  Geneva Wins First Title Since 2008

Geneva defeated Wayne 13-2 to win the Section Five Class C Championship.  This is the first win for the Panthers since 2008.  Geneva was led in scoring by junior midfielder Sam Miller with 3g-2a.  Miller was named Most Valuable Player for the Class C All Tournament Team.

# 1427  Week in Review: Week 9

The Section Five Tournaments started last week with out bracket games for Classes B and D. "One and Done" is now the mantra as a loss now means the end of the season. Three hundred and thirty-five games have been played thus far. Seventy out of Section games have been played. Section five teams have won forty-nine (70%). Victor, Thomas, HF-L, Gananda and McQuaid Jesuit ended the season at the top of their leagues.

# 1420  Fairport vs Penfield and Geneva vs Wayne in Finals

The Championship round in Classes A and C are now set with #2 Penfield playing #1 Fairport in Class A. In Class C, #2 Wayne will play #1 Geneva. The games will be played at St. John Fisher College on Tuesday, May 29th with the Class C game at 5:00 and the Class A game at 7:30.

# 1419  Wayne Advances to the Finals for First Time in Program History

Sophomore John Reagan scored the game winning goal in the first overtime period to give second seeded Wayne the 11-10 win over third seeded HFL.  The Cougars took over the game early scoring five of the first six goals to take a 5-1 lead early in the second quarter.  Garrett Ruff scored two early goals for the Cougars to set the pace.  He scored with a single dodge with 7:37 remaining and off a behind the back goal (assisted by Josh Barski) with 3:13 remaining.  Junior Andrew Mapstone scored two of his own in the run.

# 1369  Wayne Wins Sixth Annual Cradle for the Cure

In the second game of the Girls-Boys Double Header of the "Cradle for a Cure" program, the boy’s of Wayne defeated Pal-Mac 17-9.  This marked the sixth annual "Cradle for a Cure" matchup to support a local family and Camp Good Days and Special Times.  The local fundraising/awareness event is currently in its sixth year.  Prior to the Boy’s match-up, the Girls played with Pal-Mac defeating Wayne 20-2.  The Girl's story can be found HERE.
