The 2005 Section Five Tournaments are over and the Champions have been determined. An All Tournament Team is selected for each Class Tournament. The MVP for Class A was senior attackman, Dan Groot of Canandaigua. In Class B/C the MVP was Penn Yan's, sennior attackman, Jon Van Houten.

# 1639  Tuesday: Semi Finals

Penn Yan and Honeoye Falls-Lima are going to the New York State Tournament as a result of tonight's wins in the semi final round at Irondequoit. Penn Yan earned the trip with a 12-6 win over #2 seeded Waterloo and HF-L earned their first trip to the States with a 13-7 win over Geneva. In the Class A semi finals, the top two seeds won as Penfield defeated Schroeder 15-9 and Canandaigua won their game over Fairport 9-5.e had 14 saves for HF-L.

Geneva (#3) beat Brighton (#2) 17-6 and Waterloo (#3) beat Aquinas (#2) in the B/C tournament. In the Class A bracket, all of the higher seeded teams won, setting up the semi final round on Tuesday at Aquinas (Class A) and Irondequoit (Class B/C).

Mid 50 degree weather and bright sunshine dominated and the fans were winners today as 12 games were played by Section Five teams. Waterloo won another OT game in their 9-8 win over Waterloo. Newark played Midlakes to an 8-6 win and Aquinas won a close game with McQuaid Jesuit on their new turf field.

Honeoye Falls-Lima improved their record to 4-0 with a night game win at host Brighton, 17-5. After building a 5-3 lead in the first, the Cougars exploded in the second with 8 goals to Brighton's 1 to end the half up 13-3. Seven different players contributed to the 17 goals, 11 of which were assisted (65%).

Waterloo defeated host Pal-Mac 12-5 with seven different players making the score-book. After 4-1 quarter and 6-1 half, The Indians, who won the ground ball race 26-17 outscored the Raiders 6-4 in the second half.

There was lots of action in Section Five today as seven games were played on the last day of March. Victor had a one goal win over visiting Pal-Mac as senior attackman Cory Benulis scored the game winner with 3:59 left. Pal-Mac dominated the first half with ball control and patience. Victor stayed in the game with defensive performances by sophomore Tim Gallahan and senior middie Tim Rose.

It was the second game in as many days for Mynderse, and this time they won as the The Blue Devils beat host Newark 13-11. Although Newark tied the game at 11 at the 2:45 mark with a goal by junior midfielder Luke Walton with an assist from senior attackman Jason Johnson. Sophomore attackman Josh Kurdziolek scored and unassisted goal at 1:44 and senior attackman Chris Warrick added the final goal with an assist from senior middie Tim Ellis at 0:43.

This was the last chance for regular season games in Section Five. Eleven games were scheduled under the cold and rain of upstate New York. Canandaigua won big at home and maintained their undefeated season. Penfield lost to host Pittsford and dropped to 15-1.

Canandaigua and Penfield remained undefeated in Section Five and are among only seven teams statewide to have perfect records. Penfield had a close call with a comeback win against host Fairport, 9-8, and Canandaigua had no trouble in their 19-7 victory over Newark. Livonia had an overtime win against McQuaid Jesuit as they won 5-4.

Newark saw 3 goals and an assist from senior Nate Colon and 3 goals from junior attackman Jason Johnson in the 11-6 win over Mynderse. Mike Kurdziolek scored 2 goals for the Blue Devils.
