Game Reports: Thu - 04/22/04
Cloudy and cool weather but without the predicted rainstorms, Section Five was able to get nine games completed today.
Honeoye Falls-Lima increased their record to 5-1 with a win over Brighton by a score of 11-9. The game, played at HF-L featured junior attackmen, Mike Cintineo (4g-1a), Jeff Price (3g-1a) and Zane Witzel (2g). Junior midfielder, David Uzialko also scored two goals, while John Cintineo, Dan Layfield (1g,1a) and Erich Dehm each added a goal for the Cougars. Junior goalie, Mike Brisbane made 14 saves for HF-L.
Junior attackmen, Mike Ryerson (4g) and James Ryan (3g-5a) led scoring for the Barons (3-3). [No report from Brighton.]
Webster Thomas improved their record to 5-2 with a
13-6 victory over host Hilton. Scoring for Thomas was senior John Schumacher who had 2g-3a and senior middie, Steve Hutton had 4g-1a for the Titans.
Hilton was led by senior midfielder Tyler Endre who had 2g-2a, senior attackman, Ryan Eastman with 1g-2a and eight graders,Mitch Ritchie with 3g. Junior goalie, Dominic Collichio recorded 13 saves for Hilton (2-5).
It was Geneva over Waterloo, 15-5 with eight Panthers making the scorebook. Although Waterloo took the early 3-1 first quarter lead, Geneva scored the next 11 goals for the win. Junior middie, Matt Warner had 1g-7a, senior middie, Dan Rago added 5g, while Greg Bonney (3g) and Luke Bonney (4a) added to the Panther score. Junior defenseman, Craig McDonald scored a goal along with Jake Queener (2g), Chris Toner (1g), and Matt Morabito (1a). Panther junior goalies, Nick Sharman (12s) and Matt Hannan (3s) combined for 15 saves.
“We were kind of clicking on all cylinders, playing unselfishly and kept running for four quarters,” Geneva coach Bill Warder explained to the Finger Lakes Times. “We converted a lot of transition play and got a lot of fastbreak goals.”

Although the game started out close, Victor took control by half-time and dominated the faceoffs (15-5) as they won their game with Palmyra-Macedon, 14-4 at home. Junior attackman, Cory Benulis (3g-3a), senior attackman, Chris Potter (2g-3a) and senior attackman, Mike Burns (3g) led the scoring for the Blue Devils. Junior attackman, Mike O'Hare (2g) contributed while Kyle Sullivan (1g-1a), Tim Rose, Erik Rogemoser and Kyle Rogemoser each added a goal for Victor (2-3).
Junior middie, Dave Bennett (2g) and junior attackmen, Owen Campbell (1g- 2a), Matt Christ (2a) and Jaimie Sinopoli (1g) led the effort for Pal-Mac (1-6). Junior goalie, Ben Dlugosh made 11 saves for the Raiders.
Canandaigua continued as the only undefeated Finger Lakes team with a win over Sweet Home (Buffalo) of Section 6, 13-1. Face offs were a key factor as junior, Tyler Emery and senior, Stephen Smith combined for 12 of 14. Outstanding defensive play by the Braves' Ed Walsh, Ryan Cunningham, Grady Moore, Brian McWilliams, Mike Serron, Jay Woodworth and Adam DiDur was recognized by the coaches.
“What we did today was really challenge for ground balls and played really hard,” Braves coach John Johnson told the Finger Lakes Times. “It wasn’t our best effort offensively and it wasn’t our smoothest, but we played hard and got a good result.”
Junior attackmen, Chris Mulheron (2g-3a) and Aaron Manzer (4g) led the scoring effort by Canandaigua. Dan Groot and Benstanley scored 2g each while Tyler Emery (1g-1a), Mike Pane, and Mike Boylan each scored a goal for CA. Stephen Smith and Kyle Wakefield each contributed assists. Sophomore goalie, Dan Serafine made 3 saves in his first half play, while Matt McMahon went 1-1 in the second half for the Braves.
Sweet Home's goal came from Pete Schilke. The Panthers drop to 0-2.
Fairport had to work hard to beat a fired-up Rush-Henrietta team 8-7 at Fairport. Sophomore attackman, Pat Reilly scored 2g-2a and senior middie, Pat VanHall added 1g-4a for the Red Raiders. Senior attackman, Bill Durdel contributed 2g and Bryan Lowe, Jake Fricano and Mike Danylyshyn each scored a goal for Fairport. Senior Goalie, Sean Miller made 10 saves for the Red Raiders (2-5).

Junior midfielder, Kevin Kimber had a big day for Eastridge as he scored 5g-2a as the Lancers won their first game of the season and beat Greece Odyssey, 12-6 at Greece. Junior attackman, Brian Sutton and sophomore middie, Sean Sawyer each added 2g and senior attackman, Matt Recino added 4-a for the Eastridge. Nick Savine, Andy Petsos (1g-2a), Ricky Forero each added a goal and Mike Passantino recorded and assist for the Lancers. Junior goalie, Matt Mateo made 19 saves for Eastridge (1-4).

Irondequoitwas the victor over host Webster Schroeder last night as senior, Jon Timkey scored 3g-2a and sophomore, Derek Pino added 3g for the Eagles (4-2). Jim Mikel added 2g-3a for Irondequoit and senior goalie, Bill Buttaro stopped 10 shots.
