Brockport Over Newark By One
NOTES: Brockport overcame a 4-1 first quarter deficit today and won their first game of the season when they defeated visiting Newark 8-7.
There were four ties starting in the second quarter and continuing twice in the last quarter. Brockport ties the game at 5-5 with 6:59 left in the third quarter with a crease feed to senior midfield Josh Stiefel (3g). The Blue Devils took their first lead of the game less than a minute later when sophomore attackman Chad Tobey found senior midfielder Steve Scarlata on the crease. The third quarter ended with Brockport up 6-5.
The excitement continued into the last quarter of play as the Reds scored in the first two minutes of the game to force a 6-6 tie. Senior attackman Cameron Casselman scored on a crease feed. After four minutes of transition, Brockport took the lead again on an outside shot from Austin Meyers (2g-2a). The final tie occurs at 4:17 when Newark junior middie got the ball past Alex Mann to tie the game at 7-7. Thirty seconds later Stiefel scored the winning goal with an assist from Meyers. Although Newark had two chances to tie the game again, the Blue Devils eventually took the ball into their attack area and ran the time off.
Meyers won ten face offs for the Blue Devils and John Yeager led the ground ball effort with six.
