The Head Coaches of Section Five met recently to listen to the presentations about players who had been nominated for All-America team honors. The awards, are sponsored by US Lacrosse and identify some of the best players from each area of the country.

The Head Coaches of thirty-five teams came together to pick the players to receive the various awards.

US Lacrosse sponsors some of the awards and changed their definitions and procedures. Gone is the previous "Academic All-American, which for a number of years was an "All-American" caliber player with top academic credentials. In its place is an All-Academic, a member of the team who plays lacrosse and has high academic credentials. The All-Academic can but does not have to be the best players.

The the recent past, Section Five has been allowed three Academic All-Americans but this years there were six All-Academics permitted. For a number of years, Section Five has had seven All-American spots. This year, that number was reduced to six.

The All-American award is given to great lacrosse players from the area. US Lacrosse allows one award for each six teams in the area, so with thirty-six teams in Section Five, there were six awards available this year. Over twenty players were nominated.

New in 2012, US Lacrosse added an award named, for the long-time Johns Hopkins lacrosse coach and Athletic Director, Bob Scott. The annual award is given to a senior of outstanding character, good academic standing and one who demonstrates good sportsmanship and safe play. The winner from Section Five, this year, was Penfield senior James Stoler.
