Hilton - Looking to Rebuild
Hilton 2022
Class A - Monroe County League
Hilton was excited last year after a three-game run that took them to the Class A semifinals where they played a good game, but lost to Fairport, the eventual champions. They appeared better than their 8-10 record, but played a tough MC-D1 schedule in which they beat Greece and Rush-Henrietta but lost to Victor, Pittsford, and Fairport.
With seven seniors on the offensive book in 2021, seventy-six percent of their 254 points graduated. Gone are Joey DiMaria (26g-8a- Hilbert), Johnathan Englert (14g-7a), Keagan Grim (22g-5a), Kyle Jensen (21g-8a), and Matthew Mojsej (32g-19a- Mercyhurst) who led the team in scoring and points.
A heavily senior loaded team last year did not leave much for this season, but in the attack the Cadets will look to Cole Loewke (18g-20a) who will play at Alfred next year.
Returning in the midfield is senior Joe Maneti (7g-1a) who, according to Coach Lepiane is a "very smooth, high IQ player who is one of the few returning midfielders. Joe will look to lead the young but talented group this year."
In the defense, Hilton will look to junior goaltender Jason Mosher who returns after serving as a back-up goalie last year with 95 saves (58%). "Jason is a very confident and patient goal keeper."
With only five teams in MC-D1 this year, Hilton will play Greece, Fairport, Pittsford and Rush-Henrietta. They have scheduled crossover games with Penfield, Thomas, Canandaigua, Schroeder, Brighton and HF-L and non-league games with Liverpool, McQuaid Jesuit, Churchville-Chili and Livonia-Avon.
Coach Lepiane is looking toward the tournament. "The Hilton lacrosse team is in a unique situation this year. Over the past 3 seasons, this will be the first year with only 5 seniors. We have just a handful of returning players but are supported by a very talented younger group. Hilton will look to gain experience through the regular season games and continue to make some noise in the playoffs."
