Aquinas - Looks for Improvements

Aquinas 2022

Class D - GRALL

Veteran college and high school coach Terry Corcoran will be building his new team at Aquinas after his four-year stint at McQuaid Jesuit. The Lil` Irish will look to improve their 8-7 record from last year where their season was ended in a 15-5 loss to Haverling in the quarterfinals. Gone are their leading scorer Joey Shortino (35g-11a) and two-year goalie Gavin Conlan, but Coach Corcoran will have a good group of players returning.

AquinasIn the defense will be senior Jack Vandenbush, a big and strong athletic player who will be playing football next year at Seton Hall. Joining him are junior defenseman Andrew Gatti who has good speed and stick handling skills and sophomore defenseman and long stick middie Jack Schimmel. In the attack AQ will look for senior Ryan Firmstone to lead and produce. He returns with 24g-20a and was a 70% shooter last year. He will be joined by freshman attackman Noah Olbrich, who as an eighth grader had 12g-14a.

In the midfield will be senior midfielder Angelo Palumbo, a two-way player who can score. In his junior year he scored 27g-14a and was a 77% shooter. He also won 117 faceoffs (60%) and had 71 gbs. He will be moving on to Le Moyne after graduation. Palumbo, Vandenbush, and Firmstone will be the team captains this year.

Aquinas has a full scheduled this year and beyond the GRALL games is scheduled to play games with R-H, St. Francis, Wayne, Geneva, Canisius, East United-Eastridge and Greece.

Coach Corcoran says, "We have a good group of athletes with lots of potential who are working hard. We're excited to compete and hope to improve as the season goes on."
