Penfield Wins Seconds OT Straight
In the only break of the night, fifth seeded Penfield defeated 4th seeded Greece Storm in overtime 10-9. The Patriots took off in the first half and led by six at one point before Greece fought back to a pair of ties in the fourth quarter. Although the Storm did not ever take the lead, they sent the game into overtime with a goal at 0:21 remaining in regulation. Senior midfielder Max Hoadley scored the game winning goal on the first shot of overtime to secure the win for the Patriots.
After defeating Irondequoit in overtime for the last game of the regular season, the Patriots are now 2-1 in OT games for the season. In addition to scoring the game winner, Hoadley scored the game opener. The Patriots scored the first two and four of the first five to take an early lead. Jacob Emmick scored the next two goals. The opening goal for Greece was scored by Trevor Gilliard. The Patriots kept up the pressure until they led 8-2 with 3:55 remaining in the first half. After that the Patriots were held scoreless for 26 minutes until the final minute of regulation.
Greece slowly fought back with the next six goals to tie the game at 8-8. Paul Fore and Jake Hill scored two each with Jacob Holdaway and Matthew McHale scoring the last two. The Storm scored the sixth goal of the stretch with 3:38 remaining in the fourth. Hoadley, not to end his senior season early, scored another go-ahead goal with 0:59 remaining to break the scoring drought. The Storm would also not be held down and scored another game tying goal with 0:21 remaining (Forte – unassisted). Going into overtime, Penfield won the face-off on a technical draw and Hoadley took the first shot of the quarter to win the game. Penfield moves on to play Fairport in the Semi-Finals on Friday at 5:00 PM.
