Lots of Close Ones

Tuesday: DAY IN REVIEW: There were several one-goal games today and some were unexpected wins. Fairport (6-1) needed overtime to defeat a scrappy Thomas (3-6) 8-7 and Penfield (4-5) used overtime to beat Victor (7-2) 7-6. Meanwhile Pittsford (5-4) was a 7-6 winner over Canandaigua (8-2). Spencerport (2-5) defeated Rush-Henrietta (5-4) with a score of 9-7 and Hilton (6-2) took out Schroeder (4-4) 9-5.

HF-L at EastridgeCanandaigua led after the first quarter (3-2) and was tied with Pittsford 4-4 at the half and 5-5 after three quarters, so it was the last twelve minutes that games Pittsford the 7-6 win despite a CA goal by Mitch Pfeiffer with 43 seconds left in the game. The game was tied four times. Harrison Cross had four assists for the Panthers as Ben DiGiovanni, Ryan Dumont, and Sonny Imburgia each had two goals for the Panthers. Key to the win was the goalie play by Brecken Catalano who made eleven saves (65%) including two while man down in the fourth quarter. Canandaigua saw one goal each from four players and two from Pfeiffer Matt Vierhile won 11 of 17 face offs for the Braves. Pittsford will play Irondequoit and Canandaigua will play Fairport on Thursday. STORY CONTINUES

Wayne at WaterlooKole Stuver(2g) scored the game winner for Fairport in overtime with an assist by Gavin Ingalis (g-2a) as the Red Raiders beat Webster Thomas 8-7. The Titans led for most of the game, up 4-2 after the first quarter and 6-4 at the half. In the second half, Fairport scored four unanswered goals, tying the game at 7-7 with about six and a half minutes left in regulation. One factor in the win was the face off work of Jake Knapp who would 15 or 19 for the Red Raiders. Kole Herren (2g-2a) led the Fairport offense list of six players. Eight players made the offensive book for Thomas. Leading the list was Joe Russo with 3g and sophomore goalie Ethan Ruller made 11s (58%) to keep the game close. STORY CONTINUES

Penfield scored four unanswered goals to end the third quarter and begin the fourth quarter in their 7-6 overtime win against Victor.  The Patriots were down by three halfway through the third quarter before they began their scoring streak.  The fourth goal of the stretch gave Penfield the lead with 3:07 left on the clock and forced Victor to send the game into overtime. After dropping their first five games, Spencerport is on a two-game streak with big wins against Brockport (19-10) and tonight against R-H 9-7.  Victor at PenfieldThe Rangers scored the opening goal with Zach Edwards scoring in the first 60 second unassisted and although the game was tied twice, they never lost the lead.  Rush-Henrietta played hard in the beginning of the third with 4 out of 5 straight goals to tie the game at 6-6.  However, the Rangers came back to finish out the third up by two and hold the Royal Comets to only a single goal late in the last quarter. Hilton scored first and never trailed in their 9-5 win over visiting Webster Schroeder. The Cadets scored the first goals and led at the end of the first quarter 4-0. Scoring went back and forth for the rest of the game with Schroeder scoring two in a row once the last quarter. Hilton had seven players make the offensive book, led by Zach Boyatzies with 3g and Justin Mosher with 1g-2a. Shawn Doran continued his winning ways at the face off "x", winning 15 of 17 tonight. Jacob Kelsey had 9s (64%) for the Cadets who will play Thomas on Thursday. Nick Hauman had 1g-2a for the Warriors while Evan Alfano recorded 13s (59%) for Schroeder who will play Penfield on Thursday.

Also winning today were Midlakes, HF-L, Wayne, Greece, Pal-Mac and Mynderse.
